Xbox 'Heard You', Purges PS5 Logos from Multiformat Game Trailers 1

It looks like Xbox will no longer promote the PS5 versions of multiplatform games.

Earlier in the year, at Summer Game Fest, there was a big hullabaloo as Microsoft’s upper-brass appeared to contradict each other.

In a rehearsed Xbox Wire interview, Chief Content Officer Matt Booty said Xbox would include any PS5 logos in multiplatform games during its Xbox Showcase livestream.

But after a backlash from fans on social media, new CEO Asha Sharma said it “was a miss and I own it”. She indicated the company would adjust moving forwards.

And it looks like we’re starting to see signs of that.

A new Minecraft Dungeons 2 trailer, posted to the official Xbox YouTube channel late last week, only mentions Xbox Series X|S and PC as intended platforms.

No version of the trailer is available on PlayStation’s YouTube channel, but a slightly different edit uploaded by IGN includes references to PS5, Steam, Switch, and Switch 2.

A previous Xbox trailer for the game, uploaded around Summer Game Fest, also references PS5, Steam, Switch, and Switch 2.

On this topic, a new teaser trailer for Fable, posted on social media this weekend, includes no platform mentions at all.

Trailers uploaded to PlayStation’s channel only ever mention PS5 or PS4, but Sony generally isn’t in the business of selling first-party games on rival platforms. (Outside of a couple of exceptions, like MLB The Show and Helldivers 2.)

To be fair, Sharma did say she was going to do this and simply seems to be following through with her promise.

Moving forward, it might take a little longer to determine if a Microsoft game is coming to PS5 or not.
