PS1 Classics Aquanaut's Holiday, Tail of the Sun Will Be Revived, But Not on PS5 1

Two all-time classic PS1 oddities, Aquanaut’s Holiday and Tail of the Sun, will be revived on modern hardware as part of developer Artdink’s newly announced ARTDINK GAME LOG preservation project.

But they’ll only be available on Switch and PC, despite both games originally being published by Sony globally. No plans for PS5 ports have been announced.

Tail of the Sun will release on 16th December in Japan, while Aquanaut’s Holiday will follow in early 2026.

Both games were directed by Kazutoshi Iida, who would go on to create Doshin the Giant for Nintendo.

Here’s an overview of the ARTDINK GAME LOG project, via Steam:

“ARTDINK GAME LOG is a project to port and re-release game titles previously developed by Artdink onto modern gaming hardware. It serves as a record (log) of Artdink’s game development journey. By reviving past masterpieces using current technology and platforms, it delivers nostalgia and rediscovery to longtime fans, while offering an unprecedented experience to new players.”

Given both of these games’ close association with PlayStation, it’s a slap in the face to not see these titles emulated on the PS5 – although we suspect Artdink believes the audience for these classics now exists elsewhere.

For those not familiar with the originals, Tail of the Sun (first released in 1996) is a wacky open world game where you play as a caveman.

1995’s Aquanaut’s Holiday, meanwhile, is a deep-sea diving simulator which received multiple Sony published sequels, including most recently on the PS3.
