I like that Sony said this is halfway through the PS5 life cycle. What are these clowns talking about? They expect customers to pony up for a PS6 on day one now. Yeah, I'm good.
Haha, crazy man. This is why I rarely do digital. Gaming is really in a bad sorts right now. The customer seems ok purchasing a license to play for now, but then this type of stuff happens. Just crazy.
So, sort of like a live service game with upcoming updates. Would have purchased if everything came out as one single physical package. Guess that's not a thing anymore. Disappointing.
This is clown level. What's wrong with these companies? Stop releasing incomplete games. And it seems a majority are doing this now. I'll buy this whenever an updated physical build arrives which will be years from now and a much cheaper price.
Haha, honestly, it's just a videogame! It's all good! The developers can do whatever they like, and if it sells well, then it's great for them. I know I'll be buying.
@truerbluer Just for MLB the show 23, it's worth it. The Negro leagues was both awesome and a history lesson all at once. And the Franchise mode will last me years because I play offline only.
These games are just so large and deep now, one or two a year is plenty. Maybe Sony, other than their sports division, should focus on shorter experiences. And do what Nintendo's been doing the last 2 decades and keep recycling assets from the gamecube era. Seems to make them lots of profit, though the Nintendo experience has been heavily diluted this gen.
@Martijn87 I don't think most folks read the body of the article. I'm sure there will be plenty of games throughout the year. My only concern is they're still mentioning live service games, which is a guaranteed fail.
Digital content does not last forever....how do customers not get this? I rarely support digital and convenience is not paramount to owning your purchase.
I would love a remake of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Or a game about early Dumbeldore or a game about how Hogwarts came about. There's so much they could do with this license.
I wish we had other licensed games such as x-files, or the matrix. There are so many more stories that could be told and movies/tv shows just don't do it anymore.
Wow, I guess Spencer and MS have officially tapped out. They were rocking with the original Xbox and 360, but with each subsequent gen, they've delivered stuff I don't want. Taking away the ability to own a physical game, essentially making it a license, pushing digital, pushing Gamepass and just not making games. What happened to their sports division? What happened to Rare? We should be on Battletoads 8, and Perfect Dark 6. Fix your blu ray drive because it sucks. Make fun games. Instead of buying Activision, give Sega that money to make us Jet Set Radio and more Shenmue. Microsoft is such a failure. I wish Sega, or someone would re enter the console race. Dreamcast 2 please.
I like the idea of a PS5 relaunch. It just feels as if this generation has not started yet. The pandemic and supply shortages really slowed everything down. There's some stuff I would love to see but don't know if it'll come to fruition. The PS5 hardware revision with a removable Blu ray drive would be an instant purchase. Sony Sports Division. These sports games from EA and 2K need competition. A Rocksteady Superman game A Jak and Daxter sighting PS5 readily available at retail outlets and the loss of the scalper market
I'm confused. NBA 2k23 was also about 150GB. Both that and COD are being sold physically on an Ultra HD Blu ray, which can hold up to 100GB. So these games are essentially digital only. I'm a physical gamer and this is so disappointing to see. I keep hesitating on purchasing a PS5 or XBox Series X right now because of this. These companies have got to figure this out.
MLB is smart to push this game everywhere. They need to grow the fan base, and this is a great way of reaching that audience. I would get it for my PS5, but I can't find a PS5, so I'll dust off the Switch. This game is going to do amazingly well on Switch.
@__jamiie Unfortunately, the physical xbox game discs are essentially DRM. It's a sign in/check in situation. And they have zero interest in reversing the CMOS battery on xbox consoles. I know PS3 and PS4 remedied this with a console patch so your physical games are actually physical and don't require an online check in. PS5 hasn't been patched yet, but hopefully soon.
This gamepass garbage is going to be the end of gaming. They could literally outright buy any publisher they want, and Nintendo and Sony can't do anything about it. And the government stopping this saying it's a monopoly isn't happening. They did nothing with Att and WB, or Disney/Fox, or Microsoft and Bethesda. What a joke. Gaming is on a path straight to hell at this point.
I'd like to see retro titles. So many classic PS1 and PS2 games are just sitting there. There were also some of the best licensed and sports games from that era, but seeing those are unlikely. Nintendo Online is total trash. Minimal work from their side but maximum cost. Gamepass has always been a race to the bottom. Microsoft is creating a generation of gamer that expects a Netflix of games. Not for me. Give me a damn game on a disc not requiring some sort of online check in. Microsoft instituted DRM just like they wanted a decade ago, and the average gamer ate it up like a starving dog. Sony has plenty of work to do.
Seems like 2K have officially lost their minds. I thought they might do a career mode with a legend like Kareem where you go through high school, college, and the pros. Play him against Wilt, Parish and McHale, etc. I really hope some competition arrives soon, from Sony, EA, or anyone.
The more important issue is including a physical disc with the bigger collector sets. A digital code is a joke, and a disgrace if you're putting that type of money into a game. I'm surprised to see that's not made more news.
@Migoshuro : Don't be sorry. You're speaking the truth. I just wanted Rocksteady to make a Superman game, with Lois, the Daily Planet, and Lex Luthor. But like Marvel, they're trying to connect the comics ( the quality of which has dipped dramatically) to the movies to the games to other branding opportunities. It's already gotten old for me.
@Texan_Survivor I'm not sure how everyone forgot that E3 reaction. Microsoft shoehorned their way into essentially pushing an all digital console. I just don't believe in the Gamepass model. Guaranteed, Microsoft is waiting to hit a subscriber number before jacking up the price. That was already hinted at and folks went nuts. And what happens if there's a hack to their system, or your internet is down.
@Shepherd_Tallon : I agree with Sony not having to worry about anything. Gamepass is not for me, and I feel it devalues games. Sony's best best is to maintain strong 1st party output, and maybe embrace the physical aspect of games. Microsoft tried doing an all digital console when they revealed the Xbox one and backpedaled quickly. They found a way with this new xbox and Gamepass to push this agenda. I own an Xbox one and haven't played it in years. I skipped the PS4. That was a huge mistake.
It may be something like Nintendo Switch Online, but with a back catalog of PS1, PS2, PS3, Vita, and some PS4 games. Maybe they'll find a way to bring back some of those old sports games, but I can wish. And how many times can the writers here use the word optics? Get a thesaurus.
This game looks like its huge. They can take as long as they want to smooth out any issues. Would be great to have a physical version with no day one patch.
The hype has become way too much these days. The biggest issue is if the game was primarily a physical release, they would wait until it was good to go. But it seems you can release half a game, then update constantly moving forward. And you can update with DLC and microtransactions. I don't remember this being much of an issue with the PS3 era. It seems to have picked up steam this last gen.
That sounds pretty horrible. Why don't they do an 8 episode arc based off the first game. Closed mansion setting. Slow build. And maybe cast someone cool to play Chris, like Idris Elba or Henry Cavill. For Jill, I would cast someone like Lauren Cohan. Oh well.
Wow, the comment section has been great! It's good to hear there are still gamers out there that just want a single player, or definitive experience out of the box. Games as a service= end of gaming. It's just a trick to get the average person to waste money. I look at NBA 2K the last few years. I only play MyLeague. I never touch the other modes. And I see constant complaints about microtransactions, and gambling in the games other modes. That's how games are today. And the push will continue. Hopefully, smaller publishers will deliver the best experiences, because I know the big boys like EA and Take Two will eventually fall flat.
Ha, that was pretty good. Kirsten Dunst and Tobey with Raimi directing was especially good. Those first 2 spider man films were fantastic. Haven't watched any since.
@TheFrenchiestFry : Dan Slott? That slob destroyed Peter Parker's Spider Man. Even, at Spider Man's worst periods, it never went that far. For me, the day Spider Man died, was the run during Civil War, where Peter reveals his identity and is on the run trying to save his family. The story was building to a finality, except Marvel dropped the ball..again. Fools, like Joe Queseda then Dan Slott would permanently destroy Spidey at that point. I have no problem with Miles, but couldn't they have created an all new character instead of using Spider Man. It further dilutes the character. On Playstation 5, if they offer this thing at 599, it won't sell. Neither will xbox at that price point. That's too much money without a significant lineup or innovation of some sort.
Oh snap, they've targeted Superman?! If Superman is playable and there's a single player focus, I'm 100% in. If the Justice League is involved, I wonder who we'll see.
I thought it was ok. Pathless looked amazing. I haven't played any Crash in decades, but this new one looks fun. I thought it was funny during the Crash presentation, the speaker says there are no microtransactions needed to get alternate costumes...that's a joke if that is now a selling point for a game these days.
@Ichiban : haha!! I remember cracking up at some of the stuff you posted over at Nintendo Life.
Sony and MS must realize a shrinking global economy and tight finances might mean a soft launch late in the year instead. And maybe focus on a current gen bundle. Like PS4 with the Last of Us 1 and 2 at $299 or Xbox with 1 year free Game Pass and all 5 Gears games at $299 or Switch bundle with Ocarina of Time or something for $250. I might be totally wrong and Sony and MS announce $599 consoles with $100 controllers.
