Re: Review: Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (PS4)

CheekyMonkey

Still playing my review copy! On the final class trial now. Just over 50 hours in though! The class trials are so much longer than previous games - I've clocked in about 3 hours per trial on their own - so each chapter has lasted me about 7-9 hours each!

Re: Feature: The PlayStation Store's Content Problem

CheekyMonkey

@delukze - the Japanese store actually does - you goto search and a text box appears rather than the 'pick 1 letter at a time' - which is handy. However I like the 1 letter at a time as sometimes I can't remember exactly what something is called so I'll start spelling out what I think it is

Re: First PS4 Pro and Xbox One X Comparison Fares Unfavourably

CheekyMonkey

Digital Foundry has had to hold their hands up and admit they were wrong - the images shown by them and that cycu1 channel shows the X version of Lara with scars and battle damage yet the other 2 version (PC and PS4) were shown without the effect, so that's why you couldn't see the injury's on her in the videos.

they have released another image showing the damage and PC is clearly a higher definition than the X version and they have, once again, decided to show the 1080p version of the pro as a comparison to the 4k modes of the other 2 titles - I don't know why they decided to do that when the Pro has a 2160p via CB mode in it.

Re: Video: Here's How Jak & Daxter Scrubs Up on PS4

CheekyMonkey

@Nesstark88 ahhh. So they actually fixed the stuttering by basically using the USA code I would imagine - of working on backend to tweak it. All PS2 classics should do that over here. It's hit and miss - the resident evil one was supposedly really obvious with the pacing issues.

Re: Video: Here's How Jak & Daxter Scrubs Up on PS4

CheekyMonkey

@get2sammyb - ohhh, that's new. It must have had it on ps2 as well then. I might pick it up on eBay as it's only 6 quid for a code. I usually just get the USA Ones to guarantee a better framerate.

If it is having issues then it most likely won't be patched - don't think I've ever seen a PS2 title receive a patch

Re: Video: Here's How Jak & Daxter Scrubs Up on PS4

CheekyMonkey

It won't be framerate issues, it will be frame pacing. If you got it on the uk/eur store then it's running at 24fps which it ups to 30 or 48 if it was unlocked on the ps2 but causes framepacing issues. The American version is 30fps or 60 if unlocked so runs smoother with no pacing issues.

It's the reason I get all my ps2 classics on the Canadian store - ps need to replace the Eur versions with the US ones or give a choice because by default we get the worse, which is a shame.

Re: This PlayStation Now on PlayStation Plus Rumour Is Clutching at Straws

CheekyMonkey

Had a few arguments with people over this. They think that the advert isn't an advert and it's showing you what you get because it's in that section. It's all very stupid, they wouldn't give you a £120+ A year Service for a tenner. Plus, like you said, if loads of people try and access it then it will clog up the system.

I find it very silly how people think anything drastically will change. All that's happened is we have received 7 years worth on inflation in one go as we have never had an increase. The way people are moaning about it though, you would think it's going to force people to live on the street due to having no money left after paying it.

Re: Soapbox: PlayStation Plus Price Hike - Is It Justified?

CheekyMonkey

I don't get why people are moaning and clinging onto the '25%' Buzzword. It's had no increase in 7 years, if it was a 25% increase after 1 year then fair enough, but over 7 years that's just on level with standard Inflation.

If they increased it every year on par with inflation then 1. Everyone would moan like they do about everything 2. the increase wouldn't look that bad as it would be about £1.30 - but no, its having it's first official increase in 7 years - you you don't like it then don't pay it - move to another console (Xbox will most likely increase theirs like they did last year and Nintendo doesn't have 5% of the PS4 library), PC or stop moaning.

If you're really not happy and don't mind losing the games you have up until now then look at getting a HK (Asian) PS Plus account - Plus is shared on your console, so all accounts can use it. ATM it's approx £25 for a year of PS Plus on the HK store and you get Battlefront 1 deluxe (with the Season Pass) free with the subscription - they seem to get more AAA games than us, 5-6 PS4 games a month and 99% of the time the games are in full English.

Re: Sony Japan Reminds People That Dragon Quest XI Isn't Just Portable on 3DS

CheekyMonkey

I use remote play a bit and quite a few games have specially set up controls for remote play to make it easier. A lot of Japanese games don't even use the R2/L2 triggers so that remote play is a lot easier to use.

I also have the rear pad off and only use the front touch screen, some games are q pain but some are perfect. You can also adjust the controls via the accessiblity menu and swap round the buttons to make it easier but not all games fully support that.

Regarding DQ - isn't this the version where in Japan you can buy a pack and get both the 3ds and PS4 versions together. First time I've seen an official package with games from 2 systems sold together.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on the PlayStation Plus Price Increase?

CheekyMonkey

@Hengist all depends on your own preference. I prefer Digital as I share my account so both accounts get the game (so I'm basically paying 1/2 for each machine) and a lot of the games I get in the sales are either decently discounted or PSN games that don't have physical releases.

Personally, I've saved probably over £200 or Moreno this year on the discounts + the 6 free games a month that I'm basically renting over the last 3 years doesn't make the 50 a month sound that bad. Plus most places will have it for around 40 anyway

Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on the PlayStation Plus Price Increase?

CheekyMonkey

tbh - I save more than £50 when they have the PSPlus sales. People tend to forget those extra 10-30% discounts they get throughout the year along with the PSPlus games they have + are going to get over the next 12 months. I have PS+ Games from Jan 2014 on my PS3, Vita and PS4 - that's a lot of games I'll lose over a 10 quid increase.

It really doesn't bother me tbh - I pay more for a lot less from other companies

Re: August 2017 PlayStation Plus Games Announced

CheekyMonkey

Asia has just announced theirs:

Amnesia collection (PS4)
Freedom cry (PS4)
Downwell (vita and PS4)
Child of light (PS3 and PS4)

And supposedly hustle kings on PS4 is one as well but it's not in the video.

They may even add another later in the month - we got darksiders 2 as an extra this month.

My main account is UK with plus, but I got a year plus on the HK store PLUS danganronpa ultra despair girls (in English) for just over 30 quid. Best deal ever - they always give away a full priced game with their ps plus subscriptions over there and they seem to get better plus games than us.

Re: Big PS4 Firmware Update Coming Soon, Sony Wants Beta Users in Japan

CheekyMonkey

@Bobobiwan - Nah, I expect there are a few of us. I even phoned and emailed Sony over it to see if they could just capitalise it a few years back and they wouldn't. It's just annoying in-game where it uses my name and it's calling me a 'thing' rather than a 'person' - not that 'Turniplord' is a person, but it is the Name I choose in most of my games.

Re: PS4 Firmware Update 5.0 Beta Incoming, Here's How to Sign Up

CheekyMonkey

@DiddyWahDiddy just lucky. I didn't get on the 4.5 but I have been on 2 before that.

This time I've signed up with my uk, Japanese, USA and Canadian accounts. At least one should work!

We didn't get asked about psnow in Europe though - I'm guessing 5.0 will either enable 1080p/60 streaming on psnow or offer PS4 titles as downloads. I'm a psnow subscriber and when you browse games on the PS4 store, if you goto a game that's on psnow next to the 'buy' button it has a 'this is on your psnow account, click to play instantly' - which I thought was quite neat

Re: Ubisoft Games Are Selling Way Better on PS4 Than on Other Platforms

CheekyMonkey

Devs will go where they make the most money. This is why I can see the Xbox one X 'enhancements' mainly being the same as the pro - a bump in resolution and a few graphical upgrades but overall very similar to the pro.

Devs won't spent thousands of dollars and man hours on optmising and creating high def textures (you don't just port the PC ones as the Xbox is a different platform, only UWP games textures can be directly ported) for a platform with such a small adoption rate. The X will be even smaller as well.

Re: Big PS4 Firmware Update Coming Soon, Sony Wants Beta Users in Japan

CheekyMonkey

Oh, i've just signed up for the Beta as well on my Japan account - will see if I get it this time

One kinda big thing that nobody has even mentioned is that trophies now auto sync - before you had to go into the trophy section for anything to be updated - now as soon as one pops, if you look on the app, the website or any sites like psnprofiles and run an update - it will show the trophy as soon as you achieve it.

Only a small thing but useful if you are like me and forget to sync their trophies after getting them.

Re: Big PS4 Firmware Update Coming Soon, Sony Wants Beta Users in Japan

CheekyMonkey

I play a lot of Asian games, I've recently found out you can re-map the PS4 pad in the accessibility setting son the PS4 so I can swap the circle and X for example or other buttons if the game is 'strange' (Danganronpa Ultra despair girls was X to run for example, so you can't run and turn the camera, so I set it to the R1 button) - but there is no option to invert the thumbsticks - I would love that for games that don't have the option. I can't play games that look up when you push up - it just doesn't feel natural to me as I've been pulling down pretty much since I got a console.

@get2sammyb - I have over 500 games downloaded and installed on my PS4 and I've not noticed any lag :/ - Like I said, may be the Hybrid has optimised the Dash into the 8gb SSD section as it puts the most common used data in there automatically? Or it might be that all my things are in folders so its only showing up to 50-60 things at a time?

Re: Prices Plunge on Japanese Gems in Gigantic PS4, Vita Sale

CheekyMonkey

@MrGawain tbf psn has had a sale on pretty much every 1-2 weeks in Europe and 1 of 2 a month with the monthly flash sale in USA region.

It's nothing to counter what other companies are doing or to pull interest away from them, it's just Sony doing what it's done all year, even while they had a lot of releases out

Re: ANTHEM Trailer Causes Controversy with Mocked PlayStation Prompts

CheekyMonkey

@BAMozzy it will have been EA/Bioware who gave the footage to Sony - we know this because the quality of the footage on Sonys channel is clearer and crisper than on the Xbox channel - plus the Xbox footage is plastered with all the on-screen Xbox promotions.

Xbox have been caught with the same thing via watch_dogs where Ubisoft changed the prompts and gave it to Xbox to upload.

It's not being dishonest or whatever the Xbox fanboys are saying - at this point it's just a proof of concept pretty much - the game wasn't a playable 'demo' - it wasn't even showcased on the x - it was a video on a loop. It could easily be a pre-rendered scene running on a PC emulating what it thinks the final product will be on the X. There was no definite proof that it was on the X other than 1 guy at EA saying so.

You seem to be taking the situation way too personally against yourself. It's nothing, go moan at EA if you think you have been hard done by.

Re: Weirdness: A PS4 Game Is Being Sold on the Premise That It's Super Easy to Platinum

CheekyMonkey

Why are people getting so offended by it? It's just a joke platinum just like the other games.

At the end of the day, trophies mean nothing to anyone - so why get upset or annoyed by it? I have the platinum in mayo and massagy but I also have the platinum in persona 5, horizon and other 50+ hour games. Who cares?

I've also completed akiba's trip on PS3, vita and PS4 - platinumed each of them at 30+ hours each and I'm on my 3rd version of root letter, heading towards the plat - each of those took over 15 hours yet some people say they don't 'count' because it's the same game. And?

The only thing I don't like is that some games DONT have a plat. So games like kings quest who opted to not have one because it's episodic, that's stupid. All games should have one to keep it consistent. But at the end of the day, the only person who should care about your trophies is the person who owns the account.

Re: Talking Point: What Free July 2017 PlayStation Plus Games Do You Want?

CheekyMonkey

I'm thinking we may get one of the 'recent' games that have been free with the Asian ps plus, so until dawn, just cause 3 or a koei game.

Although in reality it will Be a few indies and cross buy titles that are on vita.

I tend to grab a 2 day psplus trial in Asia every now and again for their games. Managed to platinum root letter the other day - a visual novel that was all in Japanese - wasn't easy but I had completed it in English a few weeks back so it was still fresh

Re: PS4 Firmware Update 4.71 Is Available to Download Now

CheekyMonkey

Ohhhhh do I risk it?

I've had an issue with sleep
Mode since getting the pro. I have a 3.5" 4tb internal drive frankensteined up to sit outside the case (before USB drives were enabled) and sleep mode always froze and didn't work.

The last update fixed it perfectly.

If I get this I wonder if it will break again?

Guess there only one way to find out :/

Re: Project Rap Rabbit's Kickstarter Campaign Now Looks Doomed to Fail

CheekyMonkey

I couldn't back it - the game didn't have the same feel as Parappa and I don't believe these guys couldn't have approached someone like Sony and got it paid for in return for exclusivity or something (This is likely what they will do if they are passionate about it).

I just thought the target was too high and I couldn't see it being more than about £15 upon release, which was more than you had to pay during early access.

Re: Opinion: Why Sony Won't Support Cross-Console Play

CheekyMonkey

@IceClimbers I woulnd't say 'Sony is a fault' - they will have their reason for not wanting to do it - there are quite a few good theories in this comment section.

Personally, I don't see it working on big games, only on indies. What if one platform allows mouse/keyboard or you have the xbox elite controller which clearly gives you an advantage online in FPS games - would that give a fair online experience to consoles that don't have this feature? Also, what if the games are a little different, like exclusive DLC content - the devs would have to make the same content for all platforms so that is can be seen in-game.

One of the big 'features' of online play is interacting with other players, talking, planning, abusing other players - if this shared online was there then all consoles would either need a unified party chat otherwise you will only be able to talk to people on your platform - same with matchmaking - if its auto then fair enough, it could mix and match, but I doubt you will be able to search for your friends name to add them to your group - multiple platforms = multiple instances of the same username.

The other big factor is servers. Minecraft is doing it as they are getting some unified servers and hosting everything there. This means any other game would also need unified servers as I can't see Sony being happy using Xbox servers and Xbox being happy using Sony's.

There will be a lot to this story that we will never know as its all speculation. We don't know who said no and why so you can't really put blame on either party. I feel Sony is looking out for the future and they want to ensure they don't share too much as what they have is why they are currently #1 in the world - MS just wants to get new users and they seem to be trying everything to make this possible.

One thing that may happen now - If you have a kid and all they play is minecraft or rocket league and nothing else (there are some of them out there). If your kid has an xbox at the moment, or if you are looking to get them a new console - surely you would pick the switch over the xbox now? Free online until next year, portable and home console + only $25 a year for online once it goes live, instead of the $60 and the higher price point of the Xbox. Surely that is going to affect sales of the xbox over Christmas?

Re: E3 2017: Sony's Clearly Not a Fan of Cross-Console Play

CheekyMonkey

I would say it's more likely Microsoft who has said no.

Or - The versions all the consoles are gonna have to update to is the version with paid for mods and packs in-game using real money. Maybe that's something Sony isn't happy with as the money will most likely bypass them so they don't get a cut?

Re: E3 2017: Bethesda's Creation Club Brings More Paid Content to Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PS4

CheekyMonkey

It's the same with Minecraft - when you have been getting something for free for years but now they bring in a process where you have to pay using a currency you buy with real money, nobody likes that.

I can see this as Bethesdas way of getting proper mods on PS4 as these will class as checked, moderated and paid for in-game DLC which games like ESO have and are allowed. Sony probably doesn't have an issue as there shouldn't be any security or performance concerns if Bethesda moderate correctly.

However, I wouldn't buy any - i've not even used any of the free ones in Skyrim or Fallout - I've not had the urge to even look at them.

Re: Sony's Jim Ryan Just Said a Stupid Thing About Backwards Compatibility

CheekyMonkey

@PSXboxGamer you don't understand what psnow is for. Psnow is for people who don't have a PS3. It is a catalogue of 350-450 games avaliable straight away from the PS3 on a number of devices (changing to just PS4 and PC soon)

So, based on that, psnow isn't targeted at you as you say you have to pay again - so that means you have a PS3. So you don't need the service then.

It's like the Xbox game pass. I think it's crap and there is nothing on there alt hat nobody will have played or own - plus the majority is just 360 games. However, someone who never had a console or a 360 before will benefit from it greatly as they will be all new experiences.

Both PSNow and Xbox game pass aren't aimed at established gamers - they are aimed at new gamers who want to dabble with the last gen games (bar a few titles on Xbox and the few PS4 games coming soon).

If you no longer have a PS3 - you can pick one up for about £30 like I did and have 100% compatibility with all PS3 and ps1 games. The Xbox can only play about 10-20% of all 360 games

Re: Sony's Jim Ryan Just Said a Stupid Thing About Backwards Compatibility

CheekyMonkey

Maybe a lot of people aren't buying the ps2 games? Or maybe a lot of ps1 and ps2 games didn't sell on the vita/PS3?

We don't know the figures they see - it may cost millions to research and get BC fully working and if they can't see a positive financial benefit then why would they?

I wouldn't mind PS3 BC but I have a PS3 - so it's not a big thing for me. I just turn on my PS3 when I want to play a game - streaming and screenshots would be a nice extra, but again - not a major thing for me.

Plus, I kinda agree with him. I only bought a PS3 about 1.5 years ago and at first I bought tonnes of games and was playing through them but now I just play PS4 - I think my PS3 has been on about 4 times in the last 9 months and that was just because I was working through Yakuza 4.

Because we have a healthy amount of games coming out for the PS4 there isn't really a need for me or anyone I know to go back and play older games - Xbox on the other hand - without quoting the meme - they are struggling with games at the moment - so people are falling back to 360 titles to fill the gaps and offer them the diverse selection of games that the Xbox isn't offering them

Re: Store Update: 30th May 2017 (Europe)

CheekyMonkey

@Reanfan7 you know what? I think I was wrong. I'm sure I heard the above info but looking into it I think it's different: http://www.koeitecmoeurope.com/toukiden2/kyoutou.html

Sounds like you can't play the main story, only the 'missions' (so Toukiden 1 style missions, in 2 it's an open world that you explore in the main story). So in single player you can do set 1 of the missions and from then on it's MP only - these are the ones that drain your stamina.

You can play with people who own the game though, I'm not sure if that also drains the stamina, but I imagine it does.

I doubt there will be trophies, it does say you can import and play the full game if you buy it but I don't know if that will then activate trophies you 'earnt' or not?

If you want to try the main game singeplayer then I think the demo is still online - that gives you access to about 1 hour of story and an open ended freeplay that imports if you. It the full game.

Re: Store Update: 30th May 2017 (Europe)

CheekyMonkey

@Reanfan7 it's a little different to the DW8 one. Toukiden lets you play the whole game free but based on stamina - so it has timers which you can pay to bypass if you want to play a lot in one go. Also has MTs for the cards and stuff. But, technically, you could play the whole thing without paying I guess.

Re: Microsoft's Mixer Could End Up Being Beamed to PlayStation

CheekyMonkey

@BAMozzy most the things you mention are already on other platforms. The multiplayer streaming for example, there is a site where you put in the twitch usernames and it will display up to 4 on screen at once, it has its own chat there and I think you can sync the gameplay so they all show at the correct timing (not quite sure if the last thing is a thing or something coming)

Also, twitch is way more than just gaming shows - literally every big developer and publisher uses twitch to live stream their games, events and news. E3 is streamed all over it and they let people stream big events like E3 themselves with their comentary over it live as it happens. A lot of youtubers do that as it gets their viewers to watch it and react with them live.

They also have other sections on twitch for gameshows, specials (like showing all power rangers and bob Ross shows), music (you can stream the recording and creation of music), art (streaming painting/drawing), talk shows (podcasts etc) and a lot more. It's just got the image of gaming only because that was it first main use.

Personally, I don't see this coming to PlayStation, the interactions are supposedly annoying as it means while you're playing the viewers can pretty much spam you with sounds and images ever 10-30 seconds each - which isn't fun. And the user interaction to pick things - that's what chat bots, moderators, votes and talking to the audience is for.

There is nothing new with beam that isn't in youtube or twitch - MS just want to keep a large chunk of the donations and subscriptions that are obtained by their users.
