Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Launches Next Week on PS4 in the West

CheekyMonkey

I'll probably pick this up. I like the old school jrpgs. I'm also one of those who don't see this as a rip off tbh. If a game can provide 80-100 hours of entertainment for $20 then that's pretty good. It doesn't matter how old it is.

A lot of modern games go for £30-50 and have a story that lasts about 10-20 hours, with the odd exception like persona (240) and horizon zero dawn (80) etc.... yet these games aren't classed as rip offs due to them being 'new'.

To me, this star ocean game will be 'new' as I've never played this one so I can't see a problem with it - but that might just be me.

Re: Dynasty Warriors 9 Will Let You Pick Resolution or Performance on PS4 Pro

CheekyMonkey

Since playing all the recent Koei games at 60 I don't think I can drop back to 30. The guy saying that these types of games don't matter at 3 obv hasn't played one of the latest ones on the pro or they are trying to justify the switch version.

These games are the types that 'do' benefit from the higher framerates. I played through warriors orochi 3 on the 360 and wii u all the way through and thought they were great - then I got it for PS4 and realised how much better it was with the smoother gameplay.

I will try the 4k mode (if it does supersampling) otherwise, my main will be 1080p. Thing is, dragon quest heroes 2 has both these options too, but you can only pick 4k if you have a 4k display - no supersampling. So maybe they will do the same? I hope they don't, but they might

Re: Dynasty Warriors 9 Confirmed for PS4, Open World Elements Detailed

CheekyMonkey

@ShogunRok Thought thats what it meant - although, tbh, I clicked the article because I thought it meant it was 'announced' at first and I was was like "hmmmm, thats not right".

I knida knew Vita was gonna be skipped, but its nice to see PS3 is being skipped as well, means it will be on a brand new engine or maybe the DQH2 one? If it is then I kinda don't want it on the switch as it will look and play pretty bad and obv it will look great on PC (usually PS4 assets so they look the same) but PC will probably be announced closer to the time if they do decided to bring it out on steam. I highly doubt this will touch an MS console though.

Re: Dynasty Warriors 9 Confirmed for PS4, Open World Elements Detailed

CheekyMonkey

@BLP_Software - I can't see this coming to the switch - If anything it will be PS4 and PC - although it it stays a PS4 exclusive then that's pretty good I guess, been a while since we have had a Koei Exclusive in the DW series. Personally, all you see in the steam comment sections on a new DW or SW game or spin off on release is people complaining about the performance and the DLC that has come out etc... Plus looking at steamspy, the games don't seem to sell that well on PC vs console anyway.

Going back to the switch though - Dragon Quest Heros barely runs on the switch - 30fps as standard dropping to a hard 20fps lock in every singe battle - I hope they find a way of optimising Fire Emblem Heroes/Warriors otherwise it may be the first KT game I don't buy on release. Compared to the PS4's locked 1080/60, even on base hardware, I couldn't play DQH2 on the switch - it was like playing Hyrule warriors on the original 3ds.

I can't wait for more information to come though though - I liked what they did with DQH2 by making it more of an adventure than just a musou game and how Toukiden has both missions and just randomly walking around the world fighting Oni as you come across them. It will be interesting how they pull this one off - I'm guessing a hub area with links to other hubs which have their own mini-open world with 'triggers' to start missions based on that story line. Anything else would feel a bit too far from what DW is.

Also, I don't think DW9 was ever just a rumour - they announced it ages ago via the Koei twitter with an image and saying it was coming 2018 I think it was. Either that or late 2017. The tweet was from dec-feb time I think. It was never a rumour though - even though the title of this article does sound a bit like it was, I think they just mean confirmed for PS4 only or something.

Re: A Free-to-Play Version of Toukiden 2 Will Slay Some Oni Later This Month

CheekyMonkey

@Shellcore It doesn't need 'saving' - this is the same model they have done with a few of their games now - Dead or alive 5, Dynasty Warriors 8 and now this have all been a paid retail version and a f2p version on PSN with microtransactions to unlock certain aspects - the only difference being this is the first with stamina which is obtained by either waiting or paying - like a mobile game.

However, this version was also released within a few weeks of the Japanese version coming out a year ago - so this version wasn't created because of lack of sales but more to get more people into the series for free with progress that stays with you if you buy the retail version. Think of it as an unlimited demo where you can either pay a lump sum to get everything or enjoy literally the full game in small bursts.

I wish more games would do this - not only come in f2p but have a retail all-in version with a f2p version which has the same content. Toukiden is well worth its asking price though - I bought a copy but then won a digital copy off Koei in one of their live streams - I've spent about 50 hours in it so far and still see me playing it for many more.

Re: Review: Syberia 3 (PS4)

CheekyMonkey

Sorry but I disagree with the final score and quite a bit of this review. Personally, I love the first 2 games and I've recently replayed them on the PS3 just before grabbing the latest game in the series.

The controls are a bit clunky but it doesn't make it boring or unenjoyable to play - I played through the game blind on release day for about 2 or 3 days and it took me about 15 hours or so and at no point did I get bored or want to stop playing.

The puzzles are interesting and are all different, not your usual fetch quests and certainly not just a slightly interactive story book like the TT games - you have to actually think about what you are doing to solve the puzzles in this game.

I agree the lipsyncing is all over the place and the framerate is pretty bad (in the final area, near a waterfall, the fps dropped to single figures almost, but only while in a certain screen which was about 10-20 seconds or so). The voice acting itself isn't bad - it is annoying however that you can't skip dialogue and must listen to everything before you can proceed - thats what bumped up the time on my playthrough.

There are also 2 impossible to achieve trophies on the PS4 version - I've emailed Microids about this and they said they are looking into it - by the loos of their FB page, they have a big patch due to drop soon to correct a lot of the issues which have been spotted - so hopefully it will resolve the trophy issue.

If you liked the first 2 games though, or like old-school point and click adventure games where you have to think about what you are doing, aren't hand-held the whole game and don't really buy a game just because of the graphics (I presume this was made for PS3 then delayed and put onto the PS4 or they intentionally went with this styles as it matches the other 2 games perfectly) than you will probably like this game - I would recommend playing it yourself first and enjoying it as its about 12-15 hours long - then use the guide to get the trophies as any guides will obviously give you spoilers and ruin the things you find out along the way.

Re: So How Does Persona 5 Compare Between PS4 and PS3?

CheekyMonkey

@kyleforrester87 Indie dev or AAA, they should be fully supporting it now - expecially when, in most of the common engines, there is simply a switch to enable support and the devs just have to choose to bump the framerate, resolution or distribute for performance.

the Yooka-Laylee team are lazy - they didn't bother giving it support and should have been called out by Sony for this - just look at Artfix Mundi games (hidden object games) - they come to the PS4 every few weeks and they have full Pro support for higher resolutions so a game that raised over $3m should have come with support as well.

In this games case though - any game that is supposedly released in any region before the pro doens't require a patch - A few of the koei games for example which were out in Japan then here after the pro release, never got patched - neither did Yakuza Zero.

Re: New Hot Shots Golf Putts Out Closed Beta on 26th May

CheekyMonkey

@wittypixel the 'ticket' method is only for Japanese accounts. So you can make one, with a Japanese address and set as primary (you can have 12 primary accounts on your PS4). Then you can grab it.

It seems us in the uk are getting a beta as well but it's gonna be 'select account' with no info on what accounts will be chosen - not sure about USA ones yet

Re: Poll: Should Sony Be Looking to Add Refunds to PSN?

CheekyMonkey

What I would see happening is this - You have your main account on your PS4 then you create a new, blank PSN account and set as primary - buy a game and play on your main account. then, within the 2 hours, get a refund. Then create a new account, 'buy' it again and carry on form your save, within 2 hours refund and create another account etc......

Also, would it count the 2 hours as the person who bought it playtime or console playtime? ? If it's console playtime then the above wouldn't work but what if your console had been abused and blocked by sony but you bought it second hand so you didn't realise you didn't have access to online features anymore only once you have got it home?

There are many was this type of system could be abused, so I don't think Sony will add anything like this - MS don't really care as they are behind on sales so anything to get them in gamers good books will do them

Re: Poll: Should Sony Be Looking to Add Refunds to PSN?

CheekyMonkey

Too many people will abuse it - especially if you can get the trophies then get a refund on short games (unless the trophies are removed - as some people will do this).

I always wanted them to do what the greenamgaming PC store front (old application they used for non-steam games) used to do before it shut down - on that you had your games then if you wanted, you could 'trade' them back in for credit and the game licence would be removed so you can no longer play the game but you got some money back to spend on other games. I have a load of digital games that I have completed and will probably never re-install, so being able to cash those in towards new games would be great.

Re: Reaction: Will Sony Be Scared of the Xbox Scorpio?

CheekyMonkey

@Number09 Yeah - look at how successful the steam boxes were..... What you have described is basically a PC that you put under your TV - MS wont do that as it wont be in their closed UI. Plus, the majority of games on PC run via various launch applications - Steam, Origin, Uplay, GOG, Battle.net etc... so MS would have to get licences off all of them to allow them on the platform and would no longer receive any money from sales of games on said platforms.

So no, I don't see that ever happening - if anyone wants this, just buy a small PC and put it under your TV or get one of those steam links and stream your PC to the TV.

Re: Review: LEGO City Undercover (PS4)

CheekyMonkey

I thought this would have released at no more than the Harry potter remasters - I konw they have done a bit of work adding co-op and stripping out the nintendo references, but full price for a Lego game that, based on this review, take less time than the average lego game to complete is just silly.

15-25 hours to fully plat a lego game is pretty short - Then again, Jurassic world and Force awakens only took about 25 as well - I remember when they would take 35-40 to fully 100%

Re: There's One Xbox Scorpio Feature PS4 Pro Needs to Steal Soon

CheekyMonkey

It's the devs who have taken it out. In games like last of us it should come back as the 1080p and 4K modes run the same - but in a game like last guardian, the 1080p mode runs great but the 4K mode has slowdown issues. So there should be the option to pick what you want. Even dishonoured kept 4K mode for 4K TVs only for some reason. You can buy that adapted and trick the ps4 into thinking you have a 4K to so it supersamples for you but it's about 150 dollars.

Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda Performance Isn't Perfect on PS4

CheekyMonkey

The cut-scenes drop to 900p is becoming common, maybe not the resolution but look at Nier - 60fps in-game and 30fps in the cut-scenes, Bioware have opted to decrease the resolution as they can't exactly drop from 30fps to any lower.

I'm guessing dropping the fps or resolution allows them to make the cut scenes look better with more physics and action in them - maybe not in the footage we have seen so far but later on in the game?

Re: Review: Clicker Heroes (PS4)

CheekyMonkey

@get2sammyb yeah, they said that was a known bug - I thought it was because I spent 50 (that I farmed) on ascension before doing it via the level 150 guy - as others seem to have that trophy so I must have done something first that I shouldn't have.

When you say you have spent them - I can do the 50 and 20 tiers and I bought the perm double dps. It's the 30 for random gilded heroes that doesn't work. I've tried twice and about to try a third time on a reg ps4. I've also tried on the US and UK download as they use the same save file.

For the record though - I've not spent a penny so far - I've acquired about 250 rubies in-game so far through those flying bees you hit. This game seems quite generous to those who play it - unlike other clicker games - I've even had rubies added when it's been playing itself while I've been on other games which usually doesn't happen

Re: Review: Clicker Heroes (PS4)

CheekyMonkey

I'm enjoying it. Between playing games I pop it on for a few mins, progress then play a real game

There are bugs though - may just be the pro or just the UK version but once you get past level 100 you get daily gifts - they freeze the game on the pro and you have to close and re open. Also you can't buy gilded heroes as they also freeze the game.

I've emailed the devs and they game me some rubies to try on a regular PS4 - will test today - it's probably just a pro issue like the clockwork game had when that first came out.

Re: Rumour: Shenmue HD Will Search for Sailors This Year

CheekyMonkey

@FullbringIchigo just looked online. Shenmue 2 never came to dreamcast in English in America, that's shinMS jumped in and got the right and recorded audio but it was supposedly terrible.

The Japanese version on dreamcast had full Japanese audio. So these new ones will probably be Japanese voices with English subtitles. Or they may re-record the audio if it really was as bad as people make out

Re: Talking Point: Which Free March 2017 PlayStation Plus Games Do You Want?

CheekyMonkey

These types of threads are always filled with crazy recomendations.

I just look at what Asia have had recently, in the last few months they have had God of War 3 remaster, Atelier Sophie, Alienation and this month hey have Until Dawn for free.

Hong Kong/Japan seem to get much better free games than we do (although sometimes they are Japanese only - but GoW3 and Until Dawn were English as well). They even get a free game when they subscribe to 12 months of PSPlus and thye hold regular competitions based on the free game where they can upload screenshots to win prizes (in japan). I wish all regions were as involved to be honest.

Re: Store Update: 21st February 2017 (Europe)

CheekyMonkey

Just found out - Warhammer quest is £31.99 yet on the Canadian store it is $26 - that's about £15 so I think i'll be buying it from there! Also, their store page has the following:

The game includes 11 heroes, 3 game areas and a special Vampires & Zombies, and Skeletons & Necromancers tileset & enemies pack, as well as 5 legendary weapons.

so it DOES include all the content that was micro transactions on the ios version

Re: Store Update: 21st February 2017 (Europe)

CheekyMonkey

Any idea if warhammer quest has all of the dlc in it? Well, micro transactions. I tweeted the Dec but not heard back. The iOS version has. About 50 quid of micros in it to buy all the races and other stuff - for the price they are asking I would hope it has everything but I'm not willing to get it in case it has nothing and the release the items as dlc like blood bowl

Re: Final Fantasy XV Patch 1.05 Cruises onto PS4

CheekyMonkey

Its not a 60fps patch - the official patch notes say:

"PS4 Pro Console Lite mode compatibility with a maximum of 60FPS"

I've tried it out, its basically 2 modes now, the lite is an uncapped mode at 1080p with ps4 quality graphics and the High settings as as before, higher resolution locked at 30. This is good and it plays okay, but it doesn't stay high up. When I was doing the timed hunt mission you could clearly feel it dropping to about 30/40fps when there was a lot of action on screen.

Personally, they should have had 3 options - 1080/30 (like pre-patch) 1080/unlocked (with the new patch + 1600(or whatever it is)/30 High setting with higher quality - like pre-patch.

I can see a lot of people complaining about the fact that the locked stable 30fps mode in 'Lite' has now gone on the pro and been replaced with this.

On a side note - the Timed hunt is great, kill 100 Cactars - in mine though there was a huge level 85 monster there and he kept killing my guys as i'm only level 80 across all 4 of them - make sure you have a lot of health and phoenix down items!

Re: Now's Your Chance to Catch Up on All the Yakuza Games

CheekyMonkey

That's quite expensive - here in the UK places like Cex sell 3, 4 and dead souls for less than £10 each and they all appear on psn as downloads for about £7 ever now and again. I would imagine is Kiwami and 6 does well (and they should based on what zero has done), then they may give 2 the remaster as well.

I would love 2, 3, 4, dead souls and 5 to be remastered but that's asking a lot haha! - even if they brought the 2 remaster for PS3 that was Japanese only (also came out on the Wii u!!!!) to PS3 in English then I would be happy.

Re: PS4 Pro's Boost Mode Is Proving to Be Quite the Beast

CheekyMonkey

@Unashamed_116 True - I played it form day one and it was fine - even after a day or so with the patches dropping all over the place it ran great - I was able to complete it with no issues, bugs or frame rate issues - the main problems were on PC and Xbox one.

This boost mode does seem to help in Paris if you are running around all the npcs though - as that's the only area I ever had a slight reduction in framerate

Re: PS4 Pro's Boost Mode Is Proving to Be Quite the Beast

CheekyMonkey

@ZurapiiYohane64 It's not necessarily for 'old' games, just games without a pro patch (as they still have games coming out without official pro support) - however, FF 15 has had a pro patch, so it is already using the full CPU and GPU size and speed.

The framepacing should be resolved in the 60fps patch though.

Re: Feature: The Promising PS4 Games of February 2017

CheekyMonkey

@Enuo ys origin? Didn't that come out ages ago on vita? Is it coming to PS4???? If it is I'll definitely be getting that as well!

** just googled, it's not the vita one, it's the PC only one from 2006 - will still be getting if the price is decent - hopefully it's cross buy a its digital only (however so is dynasty warriors godseekers and that wasn't)

Re: Yakuza 0 Grabs Free DLC and a Launch Trailer

CheekyMonkey

@Melucine when you finish the game you can continue in 'premium adventure' - this is the game with no story left - just continue to get the completion to 100% - there are 7 or 8 missable trophies though, so if you miss them during your first playthrough then you need to get them on your next.

There is a trophy for completing on legendary - however, it's like dead souls, you have to start a new game on legendary - meaning nothing carries over - but you can just fly through the story as all that needs completing is the story for the trophy.

The good thing is that legendary unlocks no matter what you play on first and there is no normal/hard trophy (in the others you had to complete normal without going to easy, then hard to unlock legendary, then legendary - this time it's easy/medium/hard then legendary.
