Re: PSX 2017: God of War PS4 Takes 25-30 Hours to Beat, Says Dev

I'm def more quality not quantity these days, and it takes a lot for me to finish even a 15 hour game. Marketing PR guff aside, Last of Us is a good example of length done right. On the flip-side you have Alien Isolation which really dragged its heels waaaaaay passed its welcome party. Wonder which one GoW will be more like.

Never came out in the EU, but I loved the first series. Having a lot of fun with this one too. .hack always had a super interesting premise for a traditional RPG for me that really played on the characters being in the setting.

Re: Poll: Is The Last of Us: Part II's New Trailer Too Much?

I think it's worth having a trailer like this. As people want games to become more recognised and accepted and quote unquote mature, I feel that those people also want games to only be mature in a strictly professional, business sense - the kind you could show people you want to impress.

Movies like Taxi Driver and Funny Games made people uneasy when they were released, and the fact that games can now do that too is a good thing, even if you find the content distasteful. The good thing about art is that it can tackle things like that without affecting the real-world, and instead make you confront it from the sidelines.

Re: Poll: Do You Think Single Player Games Are Really In Danger of Dying Out?

I think it's important to talk about why the trend is this way. Namely, SP games have a definitive end and therefore less avenues for players to spend money.

MP? Map packs, new characters, skins, and it's all cheaper than a single player DLC too since you won't need expensive VA work or mocapping.

This, sadly, seems to be related to the fact that once again games are costing too much to make. But big publishers are constantly throwing huge amounts of money at game dev for titles that don't need it, causing a swelling effect.

Add to that diminishing returns (Growth to playerbase has a limit when just throwing money at it, and marketing sometimes being the same cost as development) and tons o' games fighting over wallets and it's easy to see why the big pubs want to go this route.

Ironically, we saw this a while ago too, around 2012, when every game needed an MP section. Seems devs are just getting rid of SP now, rather than tacking on MP.
