Re: The Evil Within 2 Is Out This Week By the Way

@get2sammyb Yeah same to be honest. I bought D2 when it was £20 and just a few days later it went down to a tenner. Bethesda are really struggling to shift games that aren't Elder Scrolls or Fallout.

But I'm honestly not buying any new releases full-price around November. We've got a glut out and you know deep discounts are coming. It's becoming commonplace - most people can only spend the same amount on games each time, but there are more games than ever on the market, so companies are seeing less sales and making deeper cuts to try to compensate.

Re: Review: Gundam Versus (PS4)

@ShogunRok Ah cool, as long as it's not only a chronic lack of certain gundam. I guess G Gundam has the dev afraid of putting any in for tone sake, same with Dynasty Gundam if I remember correctly.

And I guess Seed Destiny because no-one liked it.

2/10 too much content.

@shogunrok So with no G Gundam (Super disappointing) and no Seed Destiny, what are the choice cuts? Iron Orphans is obviously in it, but is there any Unicorn? Thunderbolt? Even Age?

Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand on Microtransactions?

The issue I have with microtranscations is even the good ones normalise the bad. How many times have you heard "But it's optional!" and now we're seeing Injustice 2 hide moves behind them, Forza and Tomb Raider hold game options, War for Mordor an ending.

Who's your favourite function, Sammy?

To me, the biggest things holding this game back have always been the poor roster choices, and the awful artstyle. While the DLC leaks could be interesting, that bland drab art is always gonna make me wait for a sale.

SFV was the same too, I think it's a big issue with parts of the FGC really hating anime styling, despite the fact that these 2 series' are pretty damn anime. Give me Capcom characters that create manga effects and kirby-dotted Marvel characters shredding paper as the attack. Just give me SOMETHING interesting to look at apart from meme worthy faces.

Re: Soapbox: Open World OCD - How Too Much Content Can Ruin a Game

Cassetticons

Really good article. I'd argue that what makles a good open-world game is focus - lots of developers treat the optional activities as meaningless checkpoints or rush them through, but a good OW game gives them equal treatment to the story, unique activities, strong storytelling, great characters.

A good open world fleshes out the game itself, and poor on is just bland filler.

Re: Store Update: 12th September 2017 (Europe)

Probably Poi and maybe Ys depending on how Nisa handled this release. Considering I saw Dishonored 2 for a tenner in a brick and mortar store today I'll just wait until DotO is the same price or there abouts. I've got about 4 games I'm close to beating this week and want to focus on them instead.

Re: Push Rewind: Was Knack Really That Bad?

Cassetticons

Knack was a sorta naff game that was part of a sorta naff launch lineup following on from a period of really meh games and money squeezing practices that were all the rage between 2012-2013. Barely anyone was excited for the Xbone and PS4 until a year or so after launch.

There's also the fact that launch games are usually pretty bad - I think the 2 that avoid being completely forgotten are, what, Mario Bros and Mario 64? They're the ultimate weird games that play like shinier previous gen games. Look at Resistance and how much it plays like a PS2 shooter and compare it to PS3 shooters that came out even a year later. Night and day.
