Re: Horizon Forbidden West Will Now Offer Free PS4 to PS5 Upgrade, Sony Confirms

Alan_cartridge_

GT7, H:FW, and GOW @Bleachedsmiles First and foremost, we're all built on a PS4 dev kit first. All game design considers the slowest hardware. Sony does not design titles to be downscaled to work on the PS4 they work on the PS4 first. This hasn't changed. Work is then completed to utilise the PS5 features and improve the experience. You can't create a game around the PS5's SSD speeds and then say, "Hey, we'll lower a few settings and have the world with insane pop in and 30 seconds while we wait for it to load." The design limits of HDD storage and CPU are always taken into consideration unless you liked the performance of Cyberpunk who designed the game just like you claim.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Will Now Offer Free PS4 to PS5 Upgrade, Sony Confirms

Alan_cartridge_

Only that isn't the best example, @Bleachedsmiles. Hardware scaling is taken into consideration when creating PC games. Consoles make use of all of the hardware's features to the fullest extent with limited hardware. A PS4 game does not magically transform into a PS5 game due to improved hardware. Without a new SDK that includes the essential changes in the code to take advantage of the new hardware, you won't be able to brute force or completely utilise the new technology. I'm not advocating for Sony to charge for this. The "high" settings debate between consoles and PCs, on the other hand, is not a match made in heaven. To allow the "high" settings on consoles, members of the development and testing teams must dedicate themselves to allow it.

Re: Death Stranding Sells Over Five Million Copies Across PS4, PC

Alan_cartridge_

Remove Kojima's name and is pitch for a game like DS ever getting made! No zero chance a third party publisher who've backed DS as a triple AAA game. A new IP also. I brought it day one and disagree with a lot of people the story and the writing for me was the worst part of it. Kojima is not a great writer in any "traditional" sense that's not debatable. You can argue his work has nuance and is to be comprehended outside of the written basics. He needs to hire help to nail basic story beats that aren't contrived and predictable. World development, the idea of the social strand etc were great along with the story premise. Be interesting to glimpse this game in all its graphical glory.

Re: Random: Ratchet & Clank Recreation in Dreams Is Yet More Proof of Its Power

Alan_cartridge_

@LubberwortScrubs issue? No issue? Merely noting that this is incredible and giving just applause to great work. I read your comment as being overly nitpicky rather than a genuine enquiry. If I were to show someone you a piece of work and their instant reaction was to question my presentation making no reference to rest I wouldn't take that as a positive. He's a great lad and likely will read these. I follow him on twitter.

Re: Abandoned Dev Appears on Camera to Denounce Silent Hill, Hideo Kojima Speculation

Alan_cartridge_

"if people continue to believe in the rumours that's up to them" comment from the Bloomberg article is a tad rich. Whilst the sentiment is true. Blue Box has added fuel to this speculation and conspiracy fire and is seemingly happy to let it burn. He is seemingly deliberately elusive and withholding information to add mystery to this "reveal". He knows had this been straightforward here's the gameplay reveal people would have accepted this for what it is a small indie title. Acting sketchy and deliberately withholding information has promoted this game into the conversation. Nonetheless, people are going to massively disappointed when this turns out NOT to be a triple AAA silent hill game. At least CD Pro Red had actually made some good games before being disingenuous. This guy has made little to nothing and will destroy all his credibility if this continues.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Is Returning to the PlayStation Store, Supposedly

Alan_cartridge_

If this game had zero bugs it would still be only a 7 from me. I was caught out by the hype and preordered day one. It's pretty undercooked from almost every feature. It needed a long time in the oven to be anywhere near GOTY. It's wow on a surface level running on PS5. I hope the PS5 native port brings a lot more to the table.

Re: Battlefield 2042's First Year Will Be Marked by Four Battle Passes

Alan_cartridge_

@Dan_ozzzy189 I can answer this one... Battles passes are leveled so if you don't pay for the pass you receive an item let's say every 5 tiers that are "Free". The other tiers are locked behind the battle pass pass. So if you own the battle pass you receive the unlockable skin, weapon blueprint etc every time you reach a new tier... So tier 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 instead of just the free item at tier 5 in this example. Basically you still grind but receive more for it.

Re: Leaked Document Reveals Xbox's Opinion of The Last of Us 2

Alan_cartridge_

If anyone hasn't already read the actual review I would recommend it. It's beyond "glowing". "The overall presentation is significantly ahead of anything that other teams have been producing on consoles and PC". The gunplay is pretty much the only negative. This is a positive review based on opinion. Of course people would implement and change certain gameplay aspects.

Re: Jim Ryan: PS5 Generation Will Have More Exclusive Games 'Than Ever Before'

Alan_cartridge_

@Ithinkyousuck Horizon is a open world game that would have started development in 2017, early 2018. Before the Dev kits where in the wild. Let alone the final hardware. It takes longer to develop then a Ratchet n Clank. Design decisions are made around the CPU and Memory at the very beginning of development. You can't scale up after the fact for the game structural decisions. So they developed for the PS4 and will scale the resolution, loading times and draw distances which are scalable metrics. Making it PS5 only, would result in a later release and a team of Devs doing nothing in the meantime. I understand your wants. Unfortunately, it's not more profitable nor logistically better. They are not making it cross-gen to spite the fans. They are making it cross-gen to maximise profit and efficiency.

Re: Days Gone Director on Skipped Sequel: 'If You Love a Game, Buy It at F***ing Full Price'

Alan_cartridge_

I'm a serial offender If I love the the look of game I am in day one including Anthem, Cyberpunk, Days Gone etc.... I figured you have some bad eggs but mostly the games where finsihed. What i've learned the hard way, is day one is playing full price for the privilege of an inferior experience and is almost never worth it. I used to rationalise it about supporting the devs and being an early adopter. This has only gotten worse tho. WD Legion was a mess. Valhalla was a mess. Games are now Β£70! Days gone frame rate at launch was a mess. They fixed it yes. So what I really paid for was the 90% finished product which was then finished and given for free on PSN. People know the game will drop in price and we live in a world where if your game struggles it's going to be all over the internet. I get his point but it's a two way street.

Re: Talking Point: What's Next for Cyberpunk 2077, and the State of the Game on PS5, PS4

Alan_cartridge_

@KingPev having played extensively Dirt 5 on the Series X and PS5. Valhalla on the PS5 and Cyberpunk on the PS5 my experience is the complete opposite. I was unbelievably hyped for CP2077 preordered at the first opportunity. Dirt 5 was nearly faultless. Valhalla was rough only one progressing haulting bug so far but my God was CP2077 a state. You can claim own your experience. However the millions of videos YouTube videos and analyst by DF and NXgamer etc are not faked. When this game is ready I will jump back in however claiming this game is harshly criticised vs implying all criticism is unfounded is not the same.

Re: Sony's London Studio Hiring for Brand New, Next-Gen IP for PS5

Alan_cartridge_

@Matej I was on the bandwagon for a long time mate, he's a great journalist in terms of the scoops he lands. As a person most other games reporters comment he's incredibly toxic. He's obviously pursuing this "save the little guy" agenda. His articles are full of interesting views from developers etc but he always speaks of corporations in a cold factual way. He never provides any characterisation to the other people that make up that "corp". It's always the little guy vs the monster corp. Which we all know is somewhat true but not the whole story.

Re: Sony's London Studio Hiring for Brand New, Next-Gen IP for PS5

Alan_cartridge_

@lacerz I understand your concerns. The industry has grown the costs have grown with it. 9 out 10 pitches are always rejected. Check out Cory Barlogs talk about getting GOW 2018 made @GDC. This notion that Sony was previously handing out funding left, right and centre to anyone that requested and now they only fund sure things is hyperbolic. Triple A budgets are in the tens and sometimes hundreds of millions. We are 5 months in to this gen and people are calling disaster already. Sound business decisions are made at Sony, Xbox and Nintendo alike that's the industry not for the GAMERS for the Profit. The Bloomberg piece was interesting but also written in a manner to communicate "negativity" against the big corps, Jason has an agenda to look out for the little guys.

Re: Dying Light 2 Developer Admits Game Was Announced Too Early

Alan_cartridge_

I think they announced the game and then showed an extended gameplay trailer in 2019. Release date 2020. Given it's 2021 with not so much update until now of course. "Rumours" of development hell were going to be "made up" or maybe they are somewhat true. Added to the fact people will cry downgrade when things are changed from the 2019 trailer and given the game is a few years out, I can't help but feel they fueled this fire just a bit. Not excusing the absolute nut cases that treat a game release like life or death tho. Hope all turns out well and a great game is released tho.
