The next-gen version of F1 2021 will run at blistering speeds on the PlayStation 5, with the developer pledging two visual configurations: Graphics and Performance. The former will run at a smooth 60 frames-per-second in full 4K while the latter will deliver 120 frames-per-second at 1440p. That’s all according to a Gaming Bolt interview with franchise game director Lee Mather.
We recently watched a behind-the-scenes presentation on Codemasters’ latest simulation racer, and came away suitably impressed by what we were shown. “[F1 2021] appears to be building yet again on the franchise's strengths, and fans should have a real winner to look forward to on 16th July,” we wrote in our hands-off preview earlier in the month.

Colour me impressed, that screenshot looks ace, hoping Sony can patch in 1440 monitor support for PS5 by the time I can get one.
Not interested in the game but I thought the PS5 didn't support 1440p, what gives here?
Got it preordered, as I always do. Hoping they include a PSVR 2 mode in the next few years.
As a massive F1 fan and player of all the games, I can’t wait for this. Biggest thing will be the severe cut on loading times on the PS5 which has been a LONG time coming for anyone who’s used to playing these.
4K60fps gaming, got to love it!!
PS5 can output 1440p no problem.. It's doesn't support 1440p monitors that's the difference. This means that games can and do run at 1440p.
@Alan_cartridge_ cheers Alan, saved me explaining the same thing.
Still can't be arsed to even look for a PS5 anymore. Maybe next year and wait for the revision?
Looks like it's going to be 4K/supersampled @30fps+ on the PS4 Pro (presumably? 2020 feels smoother than that in single player) so this IS a definite purchase looming.
@sanderson72 I wouldn't even consider 30fps on a racing game whatever the resolution
@Porkman85 Well, as I said, the Pro seems to be running split screen at 30fps but single player seems very smooth indeed. According to the blurb for 2020 on Eurogamer, the Pro targets 60fps at 3200x1800 (dynamic, sort of 4k-ish).
Perhaps it's also helped by running from the fast Crucial SSD it has in its internal port as well?
I'm curious as to what type of pc would run a pc game at 1440p and 120fps and how much it would cost
I'm thinking this because the ps5 is a £500 console and it's quite puzzling that it's bottlenecks some of the games on this console, 4k 60fps seems fine but other games seem to struggle 🤔
@huyi Mine would, but I spent in the region of £1100-£1300 (£700 on the CPU alone) on it and built it myself and I don't have anything that displays above 1080p. I can say it's a super crisp 1080p 😂😂
@Texan_Survivor Same for me but much more recently. When Control was released to PS+ earlier this year I tried 30 and 60FPS mode. Once I had tried 60 I found 30 positively appalling.
@MaseSco you spent about 60% of your budget on the CPU alone?
Based on the (possibly wrong) assumption that you wouldn't have bought a £700 CPU and stuck it in a £50 motherboard, I can only assume you're pushing a poor GTX 1650 way more frames per second than it can handle at the moment anyway (maybe even a GT 1030 if you forked out for RGB )
(kidding, I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation, just the idea of a £700 CPU in even a £1300 budget has blown my mind, unless you reused some existing parts from a previous PC)
@Alan_cartridge_
Sorry for asking but what does that mean? Perhaps a dumb question but do you mean as in PC monitor doesnt work but TV does [at 1440p]?
@danlk1ng I think thats about right if you go get scalped or mis-match.
You can easily build a Ryzen 5 5600X system, with M2 main drive, 16G ram and a good MB for £700.
I'd suggest that such 5600X build can be suitably paired with a 3060TI or 3070 and yup they can easily be upwards of £700 in these times.
So 50%-60% on GPU about right unless get for MSRP and then I'd say 30-40%. i.e. circa £350 on top of that £700.
@lindos not a dumb question - but the simple answer is there's no such thing as a 1440p TV (and now that I've said it, someone will no doubt prove me wrong )
Technically speaking no, the PS5 can't currently output 1440p. What it can do is render 1440p, and then upscale/downscale to a resolution that it can output (e.g. 1080p or 4K). Rendering is a lot more work than upscaling/downscaling, hence why the performance mode lowers the rendered resolution, to achieve 120 fps
@lindos oh I see - did you mean £700 for the whole bundle of CPU/MB/RAM and SSD? That makes more sense, I thought you meant £700 for the 5600X chip alone - although obviously it wouldn't have been - for £700 you'd be more looking at a 5950X I'd have hoped.
But yeah, it makes sense to get bundle deals at the minute, particularly with the state of the graphics card market - component bundlers/PC builders have priority over consumers so quite often the GPUs are in stock for bundles, even if not available to buy individually
also you have to be crazy lucky to get a GPU anywhere near MSRP at the moment if you're buying it on it's own - even the retailers are charging a hefty markup due to the bitcoin boom (at least they were a month ago, haven't really been keeping a close eye). I managed to get hold of a GTX 1060 to pair with my 3300X for the "low" price of £190 back in March. It was actually a bit of a win because I ended up paying roughly MSRP (when it launched) for a couple year old card while everything else was 50% or so over MSRP - and even that was an "ex display" card, although I can't complain really. It'll run pretty much anything, just not crazy powerfully (my previous card was a GT 1030 so quite an improvement)
Will this make the Williams go faster?
@danlk1ng I did reuse the existing case, SSD/HDDs & graphics card (RX 590). New CPU (Ryzen 9), motherboard, power supply, 32GB Ram & a couple of extra fans (all seperate, no bundles)
@MatthewJP Haha, I doubt a rocket would help them at this point.
@lindos sorry, I got confused there for a second. I thought you were the same person who said they'd spent £700 on a CPU. I didn't check the name, just spotted someone had replied
@MaseSco yeah if you weren't graphics card shopping that does make a lot more sense (especially at the moment) - I assume like everyone else though, you're planning for a GPU upgrade once prices become more "normal" (who knows when that will be - but at least with a PC you can just make do with what you've got for the moment)
@MaseSco holy hell that is a lot, in that case the ps5 seems like a bargain compared to current pc builds! 😲😲😱
@danlk1ng haha yeah. I got my GPU for £150, but now it's worth twice that 😂 I'd sell, but I'd end paying wayyy too much at the moment. I'll keep this one for a few years yet as graphics are never top my list for games.
