Sony has released a new trailer for Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, which gives us a much better idea of what the re-release's new content is all about. Iki Island is an expansion that sees Jin travel to... well, the island of Iki, where a different Mongol threat is taking root. The above trailer gives us a look at the expansion's story, which appears to be shaping up rather nicely.
Of course, Iki will also be home to new quests, equipment, and secrets. The expansion's official description reads: "Jin’s journey begins when he discovers that a mysterious Mongol tribe has gained a foothold on Iki. They are led by a revered shaman called Ankhsar Khatun, known to her followers as “the Eagle.” As both a khatun and a shaman, she is not only a conqueror of nations, but a shepherd of souls. And the danger she presents to Jin and his people is unlike any they have faced."
It continues: "Our semi-fictional version of Iki Island provides a stark contrast to Tsushima. It is a wild, lawless land of raiders and criminals, scarred by memories of war, and fiercely independent; the samurai have not been in control there for decades. Skilled though he is, Jin can’t take on the Mongols alone. He will have to work with—or around—a coterie of unsavory characters to take the fight to the Eagle." Sounds good to us!
We're basically just expecting Iki Island to be more Ghost of Tsushima — but that's no bad thing when the open world epic remains one of our favourite PlayStation 4 exclusives. I'm sure this will be a wildly unpopular opinion but I feel like I've gotten everything out of this game experience that it has to offer
Super excited. I looked at some of the screenshots and it looks gorgeous.
Very exciting. Looks absolutely stunning and I'm not tired of the gameplay loop or universe yet so definitely down for more of this world.
Definitely picking this up, did get the plat for it, but will happily play again on ps5 with new stories.
Looks great (minus that rain in the beginning). Loving the trippy motif.
Probably will buy the expansion digitally; when depends on the price. The question is if the expansion will offer something fresh and new, or just more of the base game with a slightly varied background.
The last game was the first open world stealth action adventure game with crafting and collectibles that I ever played, and actually succeeded in wearing out my enthusiasm for the genre.
Honestly I’d be more interested in a sequel set on the Japanese mainland with an emphasis on cityscapes (of the time) with plenty of tea rooms, bath houses and geishas / geikos.
My only question is, 'Are you going to let me romance Yuna?' If the answer is no I'm gonna be gutted. LOL
Probably not day one (Kena will be my game for August) but I will definitely buy this expansion.
@FX102A That concept sounds awesome!
Also: I'll buy this game, but August is way too packed!
@Iroha I wanted that when I played it they probably won't let us do it though
Say what you will about the price situation, I can't wait to play this!
@Ajfennell77 Right? They added so much content but all I ask is one little scene and maybe some lines. lolol
I just finished new game plus to prepare for this, and I'm pretty stoked by what I'm seeing.
if its anything like frozen wilds , then i'm pretty excited for it.
Nice trailer preordered now
@Logonogo
My thoughts exactly. Watching the trailer, I thought ' looks like more of the same'
I tried a restart and it did feel very repetitive.
I said I was gonna wait but man, I love this game so much and this looks LUSH! Might be a day one purchase...... (On a side note: what's the beef with horses in this game??)
Hype! Can’t wait to get back to this game again 😃
Looks great 👍🏻 I haven’t played the original version but I’ll get this for sure
DLC of the Year, fact!
With everything that’s been added, this has become quite the amazing package for those who haven’t jumped in yet. Can’t wait for this.
I platinumed this game first go then the second with the PS5 "update". I want to love this but I am not sure I can go again with more of the same. Great game no doubt everyone should give it a go but it does wear thin after a while.
@ShogunRok Sorry if this has already been asked but does our PS4 progress carry over to PS5 and if so will trophies auto pop? I love this game but not sure I would want to start from the beginning again.
Looks nice.
Day One, word up, son.
I cant wait for this. Definitely upgrading my PS4 version to the PS5 version.
Give it to me now...or sell it to me, anyways.
@Mostik Yeah last we heard your save data does carry over. Not sure whether all the Trophies pop, however. I assume they will (unless it's already been confirmed and I missed it).
Literally looks like more of the same, and I must agree with the honest non band wagon opinions here. I think I've gotten all I want out of that gameplay loop. The game and story were decent but absolutely fell into the same open world repetitive busy work and yet wasn't held to the same criticism of such.
I was hoping the island would feel different especially since I'd be being charged an upgrade fee on top of the expansion fee. It looks looks to be just more of the same environmental assets reused.
For some paying a premium for such a cash grab is their bag and I am glad for you.
I however would have been happier knowing the devs were working on a true sequel or new story rather than rehashing a year old game to re release with extras to justify the reach for additional profit.
This is a hard pass for me on principle. If we continue to justify, with our purchase power, the impetus to repackage and rerelease already paid for content to squeeze more money out of a product it will continue this trend toward remasters, remakes, and rereleased instead of new IPs, and fostering creativity.
One day we'll have a thread about an open world game NOT full of comments from people moaning about an open world game.
😒
Do other genres get a free pass for being 'more of the same'?
After all, played one FPS and you've played them all ditto platformers and sports/racing games and fighting games etc etc.
@Col_McCafferty It's a valid criticsm, after over a decade of large open world games, the variety in things to do that are unique has reached a roadblock. I've seen people being told they shouldn't play so many games so it doesn't ruin a genre through repetitiveness, which is just silly, it's on the developers to do something different and mix it up, Sucker Punch in my opinion didn't. Plenty of games mix things up in their retrospective genres.
And people complain about $10 upgrades - they can charge whatever they want for this.
Looks amazing, Day 1.
@Bazooka Does unique really matter? Not just in games but in other mediums?
Quality trumps all other considerations for me. GoT tells a good yet simple story very well and has enough of it's own flavour to be more than just a simple rehash of all that has come before. Of course there is something about the familiar that I enjoy, with open world games especially. I never feel like I'm an outsider and out of my depth when I fire up a Ghost of Horizon or Assassin's Creed. I know that with time and patience I can become good enough to complete the main story and enough of the side quests and other optional tasks, to the extent where I feel incredibly satisfied with it.
Of course they're also great value for money and in a time where lots of people moan about having to actually buy a game rather than be given or for 'free' via a subscription service, that's a big factor in my love and appreciation of open world games.
Will give it miss, 14 hours of the main game was enough for me and I don't think I'll ever be able to finish it, after act one it just wasn't worth my time anymore.
What’s happening to this website?? YouTube videos (just blue screen) aren’t playing and I keep getting desktop version instead of the mobile version on my iPhone.
You know i'm ready for this.
Looks awesome, but I'm a bit confused. Do I have to buy the director's cut to play this, or can I just buy it standalone and play it with the original game?
Still plan to play this, but will be waiting for a deep discount on the PS5 version.
Kena will be my only August release purchase, so sadly everything else must be shoved to the side.
I will not be paying 70 for a slighty prettier PS4 game, the game was my goty but I can't justify that price tag. They should have taken a cue from MK11 ultimate or most other goty editions that always try to undercut the vanilla version.
@Juanalf Do you not own your original copy? Why would you need to pay $70 again?
Happy to buy this twice, was such a good experience last year… took me away from all the “C” word stuff in the news
@Grimwood you'll need the disc to boot it up
Wait did I read right that we can't even transfer our save from PS4 to PS5 with this rerelease even though I played through the game on PS5?!
