Re: Sony Accused of Using Generative AI Art for PlayStation Advent Calendar Promo

From what I’ve checked, this has happened as far back as last year but there was less controversy so that tells you how things have changed within a year. Still, surprised how so many people here seemingly don’t care a billion dollar company couldn’t hire someone off deviantart for 30 quid, never mind just cropping a picture of their IPs. If so, I should put less effort in my job.

Re: PS5's Biggest Game Fortnite Accused of Using AI Art

The issue with wanting AI in creative fields is that “it saves time,” failing to understand that it’s the little details that make something unique. Sure, making someone design a billboard no one will see may seem pointless but all these things add up to make a great experience. The saying “constriction breeds creativity,” comes to mind. I often enjoy seeing how people overcome difficulty and limitations to create something beautiful and personal. Using an algorithm to do it for you feels… odd.

@Fizza yeah, I believe it does have something to do with the culture where you aim for “efficiency” beyond anything. I know Japanese work culture in particular can be crazy so I guess the idea of a tool that can help is enticing. But also my experience with these things make me sad, as I know the other solution is to just give these guys more time rather using GenAI to fill the gaps.

Re: Embarrassing AI Art Plagues Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Launch

@AinsleyE it’s so dumb as well considering there’d probably be less controversy if they made effort to actually build some AI tech from the ground up and it being completely theirs. Still iffy of course but it’s much much better than a model that steals from art published online and makes it look way worse.

Realistically, there needs to be legal ramifications for things such as AI art, music and video generation including some kinda law where you have to acknowledge the use of AI in your work. Companies obviously don’t care about this affecting their quality but having actual laws and consequences to using these kinda things will make people think twice. Right now it’s the Wild West where you can do whatever you want without anything holding you back.

Re: Talking Point: Sony's Investing in Anime, But Why Isn't PlayStation Leading the Charge?

47Levi

The main issue, for me, is that many people have been burned by cash grab anime games that often just skim by the shows first season quite poorly. If you want a good anime game, it’s normally DBZ or games with anime artstyles. An example is demon slayer, being the most profitable anime franchise of all time, yet Hinokami chronicles is just slightly above average. A really good demon slayer game would probably make millions.

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare
I agree wholeheartedly, I honestly don’t understand why they didn’t make this more obvious, I only found out about Everywhere quite recently and apparently it’s even blockchain related.

Re: Hands On: MindsEye Is a Boring Mess

A lot of reviews and current feedback seem to forget this is technically not its own thing, rather it’s part of another to be released game called Everywhere. This is, for lack of a better term, a large tech demo since Everywhere is supposed to be some user generated type game such as LBP so Mindseye is kinda generic since I imagine the gameplay would be the same for users to make their own game but that part could be wrong. For me the game isn’t horrible, just plain average.

Re: MindsEye Really Does Look Like a Long-Lost PS3 Game

47Levi

It’s unfortunate that they really promoted the developer of GTA being on this, despite Mindseye having nowhere near the same budget clearly and yet garnering unrealistic expectations but I understand why the dev team would show that off. I will say most of the trailers have done a poor job promoting the game.

Re: Insider Report Adds Context to Assassin's Creed Shadows' Big Delay

@DennisReynolds I think there's currently a massive disconnect between Western and Japanese audiences. Some westerners seem to forget or be unaware that Japanese media has Yasuke or some version appear a crap ton. For example, Nagoriyuki from ggst is based on Yasuke and he's one of the most popular characters despite that being his debut. If Japanese creators almost love putting him in games, it feels odd to be mad on their behalf.

Re: Internal Sony Fairgame$ Chatter Is Reportedly Quite Positive

47Levi

Looking at this, it's not super optimistic imo. Especially as, while the game idea sounds cool, the look and aesthetic is a big turn-off. Companies forget most live service games have a strong identity but also a pretty broad target audience. Last thing you want is to alienate people if you're a live service.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Needs to Take a Long, Hard Look at Itself

47Levi

@UltimateOtaku91 For whatever reason, Sony isn't making upcoming Single Player games known to the public so most people are assuming that Sony isn't making any games anytime soon so that made Concord get extra flak. For me, it's a mid game with a bad business model in a bad timeframe. All companies take Ls, ***** happens sometimes, even if it's kinda avoidable.
