Shogun, The Boys Director Joins God of War TV Series as Casting Gets Underway 1

Work on Amazon's God of War TV adaptation is finally getting rolling, and it's attracted an award-winning director.

According to a report from Deadline, Frederick E.O. Toye has been hired to direct the first two episodes of the TV series, which is set to follow the Norse mythology storyline from the more recent God of War games.

Toye has directed episodes in many highly acclaimed TV shows, including the likes of The Boys, Fallout, The Walking Dead, The Good Wife, and Shogun, for which he won an Emmy award.

Ronald D. Moore is also attached as showrunner; his previous credits include Outlander, For All Mankind, and Battlestar Galactica.

Pre-production and casting are now underway, the report says, with filming allegedly due to start in March 2026.

So, the cogs are beginning to turn on this adaptation, which seems to be gathering some top talent.

For fans, a crucial part of the show will be in the casting; the choice of actor for Kratos in particular will likely be highly scrutinised.

He's portrayed by Christopher Judge in the last two games, providing the voice and performance capture for the character.

Some have questioned whether he might reprise the role in the TV series, but the actor is as clueless as the rest of us. Judge has also said he hopes the person they choose "loves the big guy" as much as he and the fans do.
