When marketing the PS3 in the build-up to its release, Sony confirmed a shooter called Eight Days. It was never actually released, but the demo that revealed it has lived in our minds ever since. MindsEye, weirdly, feels like the PS5's spiritual successor to that London Studio effort, even though there's no link between the two projects.
While the visuals are, of course, significantly better in the Build a Rocket Boy experience, all the same kinds of vibes are still there — it leaves MindsEye, from the outside looking in at least, feeling like a long-lost PS3 game.

The developer has now provided a thorough overview trailer ahead of the game's PS5 release on 10th June 2025, which works to document every facet of the action shooter. This is comfortably the best MindsEye has looked to date, with a variety of sequences shown off, from races through the city to a section played out in space. There's also lots of shooting and drone abilities.
Outside of the story campaign, the studio has confirmed MindsEye will live on after release through premium content purchases and custom missions created by the community. "The studio will regularly release new missions, challenges, and game assets," a press release reveals. "The continuous stream of studio-developed content, combined with the very best of the community’s own beautiful creations, means that MindsEye will continue to surprise and delight its players for decades to come."
It's clear Build a Rocket Boy has big ambitions with MindsEye, claiming it'll support the game for over a decade as it "revolutionises gaming" with "cinematic brilliance, [an] innovative game creation system, and a constant stream of fresh premium content".

This actually looks really decent! Sort of like a more action focussed Watchdogs with a Terminator twist, and I’m all for that!
The portals section at the end is interesting. It’s worked well with Hitman. Colour me intrigued!
The more I see of this, the more meh I feel towards it.
Will wait for some reviews/play throughs to see, looks like a wait for a sale at best type of game for me though
Gotta say wow!
Sorry to say, it’s my type of game, it has a bit of Cyberpunk vibe to it and I love open world games (even semi open world too) so I am glad I preordered! Looking forwards to play this early!
For a game I'm probably not buying, I kind of can't wait for the reviews. Trailers look mid but all the behind the scenes tea really points to a disaster launch. I hope it's decent...I think.
I think it's going to need some video game viagra to stop this from flopping hard The preview event that some journalists were treated to was not great by most accounts.
It looks fun, like the latest robocop mixed with GTA….delivered, by the looks of it, far too seriously. Hopefully some unintended humour will keep it breezy though.
Certainly some lofty ambitions here. I can't see myself playing Minds Eye a decade later but if it turns out to be solid enough with reviews then I'll consider giving it a go. Previews haven't left a good impression on the polish side of things so that's my main concern.
PS3? I think go even further back; this actually reminds me of Headhunter on the Dreamcast!
It looked like a 4/10 at the first reveal and still does now. I’m all in. Haha.
I got bored even watching this....might have been awesome 20 years ago
@JB_Whiting I thought the exact same thing! Haha. Never did complete that game. But I’m all for reliving something like it.
"This is the home of infinite entertainment" and it's the most dreariest, boring looking gameplay I have ever seen.
Rest of the game seems interesting -ish. I love the PS£ and a focused game sounds good, but the gun play just seems so one note. Very intrigued to see the reviews
Running around and shooting things fatigue.
Not sure. Defo interested but can’t shake the ‘Saints Low’ remake vibe… I hope I’m wrong.
The first reveal looked nice.
Then it looked OK.
Now it looks MEH.
Release will be UGH.
Sad, though.
@Brundleflies21 I’m assuming that the massive void that is modern 3rd person open world action-adventure is going to help sell copies… Plus having the former president of Rockstar North lead the development team may give enough boost.
Looks right up my alley. I'll have to day-one it if it gets a bad review here!
I'll wait to pick this up in 10 years time on sale when it's complete
I'll take the risk on it, can't be worse than Watch Dogs.
It’s unfortunate that they really promoted the developer of GTA being on this, despite Mindseye having nowhere near the same budget clearly and yet garnering unrealistic expectations but I understand why the dev team would show that off. I will say most of the trailers have done a poor job promoting the game.
What's weird is that the more I see of this game the worse it looks and the more interested I get in playing it.
Really wish there were more PS3/360 era style games, this gen just bores the crap out of me, endless rpg's, walking sims or "here's your current job" simulator AI slop 🫣
Not embarrassed to say it looks good to me!
Going by previews its a broken mess..
@Ravix On your phone, then you can say "is this a mobile game ?" and answer "yes"
@AverageGamer You may possibly be correct but from what I've seen and the entirely negative previews I'm betting on it being a mega flop
Interesting that there is zero mentions of their main game/platform "Everywhere" - similar to roblox idea. This Mindseye is just game/experience in that game in general.
Mostly speculations are that "Everywhere" is stuck in development and they need to inject some more money and they are scrambling this MindsEye game to do that. Be aware and don't expect anything "Wow", there is no signs for that. It probably will be okay game if you have approach that it is like Roblox style premium experience.
Looks like Lincoln Clay was lifted from Mafia3 with his skin tone and hair edited. Would be a bit surprising if this game is in the 80s on MC.
I really hope someone does a deepdive on this and the studio because I had first and second hand info from the early years and it's a downright ***** show how they work.
I shouldn't want it, but i do
This Jack gets out of the car, several people firing on him with rifles, and he is totally relaxed. Just a few red circles indicating that he is hit by military firearms.
Compare this with the reactions in The Last of Us, and you know why it feels so early PS3.
Mindseye looks good to me.and I enjoy ps3 era video games Word up son
The hate is real lol. It looks like a great sandbox if it runs well. I hate that EVERYTHING has to reinvent the wheel in this day and age. If it's fun then that is all that matters. Looks to fill the Saints Row (1 and 2)/watchdogs void. I mean the dude behind the studio spent a lot of time at RockStar.
It looks decent enough hopefully performance is solid but I'll be waiting for reviews and if they're not a total disaster I'll probably buy it.
Man gamers really are hard to please these days I think this looks great I mean the combat looks exactly GTA but with more gadgets, why do so many "gamers" want games to fail these days
@DennisReynolds what previews?
The lead character reminds me of a young alan sugar....you're fired
@ECharles people seem to be hyped up for GTA 🤷
@Toot1st I have to laugh at how people demand more AA games but hate every single one except Expedition 33.
I'm down, one hundred percent. I've had my eye on this game for a while and while it seemed a lot of people were underwhelmed, I thought it looked interesting.
If they can live up to their promises, MindsEye could be a big deal.
Looks like mindless fun, but a recent preview I watched said that it was buggy and it was hands-off…even though it’s coming out in a few weeks. Not promising.
Certainly looks like a throwback to a late ps2, early ps3 style of game in the way it plays.
I suspect this won't review well critically but those that are in the market for that kind of nostalgic feel game will enjoy it a fair bit.
Screams ps+ title in 12 months time.
Trailers for this never quite sold me on the game. I hope it does enough to keep the studio going so they may temp me with another ip.
The first two paragraphs of this post should flat out be removed, as well as the title being altered.
The post is marked News yet it has a prejudice negative opinion built into the title and first two paragraphs.
I can’t wait for this. Will the game be good? Probably not. Will it be mindless fun, similar to old-school PS3/360 games? Probably. I’m going in with no expectations. Hopefully it will be a good time.
Honestly, though, this really does look fun. I have a feeling it will become a cult classic. It doesn’t look like it will do anything to reinvent the wheel, but if the controls are good — driving mechanics and gunplay — then it will be a solid game. The story seems interesting too, and I like the idea of an “infinite” open world.
It sucks that so many people are writing this game off already without giving it a chance. But hey, this is the gaming culture these days. There was similar discourse to Evil West, and that turned out to be fantastic. Idk, guys, I think this will be a good game.
@Toot1st "why do so many "gamers" want games to fail these days"
Thanks to those grifters who sells negativity on daily basis. People who followed these grifters became toxic and then spread the negativity on daily basis too.
@Kraven I love Evil West and i hope the game sold well so we can get a sequel. I also love Shadow Warrior and Trek to Yomi which was from the same devs.
@ButterySmooth30FPS There are people who really wants more AA games and will buy it if the games turns out decent. I'm one of those people. My buying list for this year has more AA than AAA games.
But sadly the voices got mudied by some bandwagoners who only talk the talk but never walk the walk.
@Pat_trick Who's defending it? I (at least) am just saying it looks fun and janky.
@Toot1st There was a preview event. No one was allowed to actually play the game themselves, the footage shown was buggy as hell, the performance was dreadful and the person playing had God Mode enabled because the game was in no state to play with it off. MrMattyPlays who was part of the event has a full breakdown of it

@Jrs1 I can feel something inside myself just WANTING more of those ‘one and done’, linear, fun games. The kind you buy and think: ‘yes. Great. I can just f-ing play this without worrying about it being a huge investment to do battle with a vast open world and seventeen gameplay systems’.
Basically - I’m quite old now
@Totheteeth Haha im totally there bud, im 53 now just want an easy life games wise, i think i may have to retire to the "Time Extension" website and bleat on about the glory days 🤣
@Totheteeth I hear you too. Just finished Mafia: Definitive on PC. Playing COD WW2 too. 😂
I like a simple linear game.
This looks right up my alley 😍
I hope they pull a Clair Obscur and the game is well received!
It looks like the London Studio PS3 The Getaway or whatever project but also cyberpunk.
Also PS3 esque in what way? Just because of the London Studio project if so sure but in terms of the rest it feels as generic as all the rest this gen honestly. XD Like any other genric boring third party PS4/5 game.
Sure QTEs or whatever.
I'd rather play Eyedentity or something more interesting, I'd take Coded Arms Assault Konami or those on PSP to PS+/digital purchase, not this at all.
Sure a fair even if still used this gen weapon wheel. Sure some vibes, but it has none of the gameplay excitement, it can have a drone (even Watch Dogs or other games have used drones or other aspects before) but it just looks flashy and boring. Overdone action and lacking substance of gameplay. Vibe is not good enough.
Moveset looks generic, worlds look like they fit a generic tone, boring empty open world, generic tasks to do it in probably. The whole game may be in progress but it lacks appeal that isn't the same thing done for 15+ years or PS4/5 boring design gen we see and it's just not exciting.
I seek by gameplay mechanics, I see nothing exciting here. Devs build these boring worlds based on boring reference and repetition and I'm sick to death of it.
The artstyle is hit and miss and looks pretty bland regardless of tone.
Ok some parts do give off Deux Ex Human Revolution or Spintercell Conviction type vibes but even still that's not saying much.
This game looks bland. No matter how ambitious it's just so boring. They can throw whatever at the wall I just see this as trying but also to still fit in with other boring AA/AAA slop. Style over substance.
I hope I'm wrong but trailers/gameplay showings always look this bland and they barely show anything actually exciting.
To me AAs have been either trends followers of souls games, consistent but struggle to build a larger audience so they flop as they are too consistent or trying to recapture other stuff but doing it poorly.
While Indies in some genres are great and others are nostalgia repeaters with no creative bone in their body and need better ideas as they are pathetic.
