Black Panther

EA has a AAA, single player, open world Black Panther game in development, according to a new claim from the Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb. Speaking during his daily news show, it's supposedly called Project Rainier and is currently in early development. Production is being led by Kevin Stephens under a new studio at EA, who was vice president at Monolith Productions when the team made Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and sequel Shadow of War in the PS4 era.

Grubb explains the overall goal of the game is to become the new Black Panther, with the open world allowing you to approach things in your own way. Of course, the fact this is a AAA project and — better still — is single player will be music to the ears of Marvel fans. Since the game is so early in development, it's unlikely we'll see any footage or receive confirmation of the title for a few years. "The game starts with Black Panther being dead and the player is going to take on the challenges of becoming the new Black Panther", Grubb explains.

The news, of course, follows just after Marvel released the first trailer for this year's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie flick. The trailer revealed a tribute to Chadwick Boseman after his tragic passing in 2020.

A potential Black Panther game adds to the list of upcoming superhero-related titles, which includes Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Marvel's Wolverine, Marvel's Midnight Suns, Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad, Kill the Justice League, and Wonder Woman.
