@Quintumply from what has been tweeted a combined digital/physical should be some point this week.
This chart by GFK will still be published every Sunday week prior to GSD creating a new seperate chart a few days later with most major publishers on board.
That PS4 hardware deal did the job Sony wanted, only marginally down for the year. Sony never seems to get any SW evergreens in Japan always seems to be top heavy sales compared to Nintendo.
@Grim-Tuesday that's fair enough i'm sure there were plenty of other people who felt it was a slap in the face, I moderately did so. Just pointing out for the most part people who say Switch is not 'that great', or 'underpowered' do so based on subjective reasons, and that's fine, but objectively speaking there are reasons why plenty love it, just like PS4, XBOX or any device as @Lando_ suggests.
@nessisonett hope so, if the option is there on JP games i'll always play original language with subs, always feels more authentic to me. Yeah, to be fair don't think i've seen Madsen in anything when he hasn't been insane to some degree!
@Agramonte @nessisonett @get2sammyb is right, they announced it for Western release with added English voice acting at the Kinda Funny Games showcase event the other week for Summer 2019
@KingdomHeartsFan Japanese Christmas period is actually a big deal over there, it just isn't exactly the Christmas that we in Europe or America celebrate as there is almost no religious connotations and it isn't a national holiday. It is more festive and fun with illuminations and Christmas markets etc, and about the spirit of giving over that period, specifically for the new year, but there is the Oseibo gift giving, which overlaps Christmas, while Christmas Eve has become a couples day, a bit like Valentines day. Nothing to do with gifting but for some reason KFC has become a traditional Christmas meal!
@Derpie1 not sure the base models will fly of shelves but isn't there a limited KH3 edition coming out, i'm sure that will sell out as soon as it's on sale.
Finally, since MHW, a good hardware bump for PS4 in Japan, to be fair the offer of 2 free games and roughly £40-50 off retail price is a pretty nice Christmas offer and was clearly very tempting.
@Gamer83 yeah by raw numbers but as @ShogunRok says userbase can skew those when comparing titles, and if you apply the userbase totals it is only behind sun/moon in terms of percentage of adopters. #soz x+y not sun/moon!
@JoeBlogs yeah such is our nature, whatever is new and 'shiny' can quickly turn heads, especially in the world of games, and especially when there has been so many good games released or about to be. Detroit is a game I was interested in but not 40 odd pound interested in, then kinda forgot about it, then saw it at that price
To be honest I have pretty much stopped buying day 1 anyway these days except for proper 1st party releases from Sony or Nintendo. Got burned too often where I feel like i've been taken for a mug be it buggy, incomplete games, or huge discounts sometimes within weeks of release.
@Derpie1 It would take a real turnaround (though of course not impossible assuming Nintendo haven't stumped up any cash) to see SMT V on anything other than Switch, Atlus have made it pretty clear it will be exclusive and do you really think we'll see a DQ XII soon enough to be on PS4? Agree with you on a new MH game though, PS4 hardware in Japan has really stagnated after MHW, it is the only game you mention I can see possibly released, given the relatively quick turnaround MH games were churned out on 3DS, that can significantly boost PS4 hardware. It's why it wouldn't surprise me to see PS5 get an earlier release in Japan or as an outside bet that patent for a controller with a screen purely for PS game streaming to release Japan only.
Can't not be hit with nostalgia from the design of the thing and it is still the best looking and most iconic Sony console, but the price point is just too high to be a stocking filler like the NES classic was/is and the games for me don't justify the higher price like the SNES classic did. I'm sure plenty will get it and cherish it but unless I can get a serious discount and add a few games it's not for me.
I was curious how the reduced price Pro would do and if it would bump sales in general, now it's been out for a few weeks it just seems to have cannibalised the extras from the standard PS4 sales. It does make me wonder if we'll see PS5 release earlier than rest of world in Japan given the slump it has been in since MHW, compared to still killing it in Europe and America.
I am so grateful that there is nothing I am interested in buying on PS4 this month, can't keep up with the ones I already have but haven' t touched yet.
Bloodborne is still my fave PS4 game, even in the face of some of the gems we have had since. As much as i'd love to have a sequel it feels like such a complete experience i'm not sure. As for a prequel i'm not sure i'd want that, part of what I love about it is how the world building is relatively ambiguous through fragments of information that leaves it up to the player to make sense of what is going on.
@NintendoFan4Lyf if that was the list i'd be all over it, you've got me dreaming of an alternate reality where that is in fact the actual line up, sigh.
Can't believe anybody would have called that line up! It does have one or two, like original Persona, that interest me from a playing perspective, but as a PS1 JRPG nut it is difficult to justify a purchase at that price. I can appreciate the variety will please some people though, just not me.
@NinjaWaddleDee i'm in that bracket so I can see a relative portion doing so, the portability and a very overcrowded period forced my hand as I'm sure it did others. With that in mind was pleased to hear of the PS4/PC numbers in the US. Hopefully there will be no questioning from SQEnix as to if further games will be localised now.
I get anyone still playing picking up on the 90 day thing, even it is is only a handful.of em, but all online elements of games must die at some point. At least this seems like a pretty good run timewise compared to, as others have mentioned, Gravity Rush 2, which still feels like a slap in the face from Sony whenever that servers offline message pops up!
@Jriibz woah there, this has nothing to do with 'console wars' and does not come from any 'toxicity' towards devices or brands, both me and Lando obviously own both PS4 & Switch and i know I very much enjoy both machines for the different things they offer. This could easily be about the Vita if someone said I don't understand how that machine is/was popular in Japan and flopped pretty much elsewhere. This is just a comment about Japanese gaming culture versus someones own personal experience, which I might add are allowed to be different.
@Lando_ all of what you say is 100% true, as your 'subjective' opinion. In my 'subjective' opinion I disagree with nearly everything you said, and that is the point I am making as I am sure that mirrors a good proportion of the Japanese public. To say you don't understand why they would still be hyped for the Switch based on your personal experience and feelings against Japanese gaming trends is a bit naive.
@PS_Nation your point about the exclusives and multiplats is what? Japanese people shouldn't be hyped about Switch because of what it doesn't offer as opposed to what it does? It is pretty insular of Mr. Calrissian to say 'i still don't understand' because this is how it is with me, therefore it should be the same for everyone else. I am merely providing a counterpoint that it is different for me, or for anyone potentially.
@Lando_ funny how things are ain't it. I can well understand why they are 'hyped', barely a day has gone by since launch when I haven't used my Switch whereas my PS4 has been a bit of a dust collector for prolonged periods!
Pro won't be on its own, wouldn't make any sense yet, but it will be interesting to see, with the price cut, what the Pro sells in relation to the standard model. Up to this point seems to sit at about 50% of the standard PS4 barring any special editions.
@PS_Nation to be fair to any 'port begging', on this occasion it made absolutely no sense to make it PS4 exclusive on Konami's part for so many reasons, so kudos to Sony for getting it done. Second the comments regarding Konami IP's, sell em, licence them, whatever, there are too many I love/loved that for far to long get none from them.
Surprised it's exclusive and not on Switch given how well, sales wise, that Bloodstained game performed. Still SOTN is a great game and never played Rondo so would like to pick this up at some point, when depends on if my kids are hogging the PS4 when it releases which is very likely given the upcoming release schedule!
No analogue means no Ape Escape which is a real shame. Need to see an expanded list before I can commit, games like Chrono Cross & Xenogears would make the difference for me as we never got them over here. It is a real nice thing though, i'm sure it will do good numbers like we've seen the nes/snes classic do.
@get2sammyb wow, is the default reply to treat the person as a dullard? You 'do realise' I never said anything derogatory about the number of people surveyed, it was merely to contextualise what the index actually entailed, as a microcosm of US/UK/Chinese/German consumer sentiment it is a relatively fair number if somewhat unbalanced based on population.
@ShogunRok 100% agree with your quoted comment, but this index does not measure the 'most-recognised brand' in any way. It measures the brand against consumer experience based on the four, already mentioned, principles. So regardless on how they conducted the survey, be it actual users of the selected brand, or perhaps just impressions, PS ranked third in the UK by being highly relevant to the 'customer' or as the index methodology states 'which brands are the most indispensable to their lives – the ones they simply cannot imagine living without.' I used the word lazy as for all intents and purposes it appears as though the primary source has not been consulted and this article is based purely on a second hand source, which also mistakenly states that 'PlayStation is the third most-recognized brand in the UK'.
@ShogunRok Come on guys this is lazy, you've got this all wrong, this index does not measure the 'most-recognised brand' in any way. The rank is decided by asking roughly 11-12'000 people in their region, be it UK/US etc and surveying 'where [the selected brand] falls across the four principles of relevance – customer obsession, pragmatism, innovation and inspiration.' Furthermore brands were selected based on the respective regional 2017 data that 'achieved outsized business performance (MRY revenues and trailing 3-yr revenue growth)', ergo not all brands are included.
I count at least 9 that i'm very interested in (Spidey being at the top of that list) which is just not feasible. Will get Tomb Raider at some point, but while I liked it, Rise didn't quite inspire me to get it straight away, and i'm thinking i'll see how the Switch version of DQXI pans out to give me some breathing space, then see what's left after kids going back to school/clubs expenses for stuff like VC4, ZOE and Wonderboy!
Didn't realise how much I appreciated the ability to instantly fine-tune a needed precision arrow shot until I went from Zelda BOTW to HZD. Would have improved elements of combat in HZD no doubt.
@Sarfa I find it weird when people say that when it's been multi-plat for nearly 20 years, though I understand the affinity towards playing on PS given the origins.
To be fair to Mat Piscatella, so we don't get more Zelda or any Mario comments, he doesn't include Nintendo in this context as for data purposes N software is an outlier to the data they gather and plays by seperate rules to PS & XBOX.
If it's anywhere near as good as NieR: Automata, my first in the series, i'll put my money down. Comfortably my fave PS4 game last year (with the caveat I haven't played Persona 5 yet). Still peeved it didn't make this sites top 10 last year!
