Red Dead Redemption 2 is a PlayStation Network record breaker. Once again underlining the fact that buying games digitally is fast becoming the norm, Rockstar's outstanding open world game has enjoyed the biggest launch of any "full" title to release on Sony's online store. "Full", we imagine, means full retail price, so this doesn't take into account PlayStation Plus freebies or anything like that.
Anyway, Red Dead Redemption 2 had the biggest day one sales ever on PSN, the biggest three day sales ever on PSN, and now holds the record for being the most pre-ordered game ever on PSN. Impressive stuff, and yet another reason why charts absolutely need to start tracking digital sales.

yep some people like me want know how many copies does games sold on digital version beside physical version
Expect more records like this to follow. And expect @kyleforrester87 to keep buying copies of this game so it will remain in the weekly sales charts.
it's crazy how they don't take digital sales into account.
@Kidfried
Yep like I said, true R* fans couldn't wait for physical deliveries, we wanted it locked and preloaded ready to play at launch midnight. Sony better start giving digital figures.
The only way I see physical being great again is if retailers are allowed to deliver games weeks before release with the games being locked till release just like digital.
I pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition from the PS Store and had to wait until 26th 00:01, while a friend of mine already played his retail copy.
NPD charts do count digital data. The GSD European Charts also count digital sales, but bizarrely have a mishmash of physical/digital sales from different countries, so includes digital sales from the UK and Germany (but not physical ones), and 40 other countries, but physical sales from only 12 countries (and doesn't include 2 of the 3 biggest markets). GfK which does the charts for the UK has exclusive rights to the sales data until next year, even when it switches over, its unlikely to be accurate, because GfK's quality and quantity tracking of physical data is vastly better than IFSE's who run the european charts.
@TheArt - i saw several people on my friends list (who i know bought it mailorder) were playing it on the 25th. for a friday release, almost all UK mailorder places (or at least the good ones) will ship it on the tuesday or wednesday before release. plus it's at least £12 cheaper to buy it on disc.
Well, I didn’t want to pay an extra tenner to not have a physical disc or a map, but given that I went to Asda living and they don’t take Apple Pay for anything over £30, I went to argos, whose checkouts wouldn’t accept Apple Pay, their self checkouts do but they don’t let you buy an 18 rated game from those and it tells you to go to the other tills instead, so I went to morrisons, they had it for the Xbox but not the PS4, so I went to PC World, who didn’t have a single copy, but they have PS4s and other games, by this point I was extremely pissed off and decided f**k it. I’ll just pay the extra bastard tenner.
Next time I want a new game I’ll just preorder it digitally rather than waste 40 minutes going between different supposed retail outlets, they had their chance, they suck, time for this logistically useless retail crap to die off , “digital” all the way (bugs me how Sony call downloads digital, as if a bluray is analog)
@leucocyte this is why these digital sales don't make any sense, why would anyone buy more of the game from PSN instead of retail, when PSN launch prices are expensive in the UK? (£60)
this is not looking good for physical, they are going to take even more priority over physical in the future if sales pickup like this, this is my only worry.
@leucocyte That's great. For some people though, I saw them complaining about delays and people don't wanna risk that for such a highly anticipated title, so they'd rather have it ready on their harddrive. And I don't think they were looking to sell an expected universally acclaimed title after playing, so digital it is.
@Rrrob you did it wrong, why didn't you just go to game and pickup from there? (which is what i did) it's £50? or amazon and have it straight to your door, doesn't make any sense for you to order it over PSN when there Is so many other options to buy it cheaper, pure lazyness.
@huyi I understand your worry but thing is, a lot of people around the world order from the UK or US but don't live there and physical games sometimes takes time(days or weeks depending) to actually get to them and then they pay about £20+ extra just for shipment. So to that crowd the extra £10 on PSN is actually cheaper.
@Rrrob @huyi I'm not sure what happened there but can we try not to argue and insult each other over stuff like this? Be cool.
@huyi
The two options are making sense and are respectable. Disc have a map and can be shared, traded or just kept for collection or easy re install later while downloads have convenience and early availabilities (very cool when you have Friday off) . For me the main advantage is the game will be available on the ps4 at anytime while I can swap other discs when needed. That and its got 0 chance of being mistaken for a frisbee by my dog.
Still prefer physical, did the midnight launch at my local Game for RDR2 but I get why people go digital and preload.
The digital version doesn't make meaning to me, because I want a steelbook.
Did my part. Picked up a copy at launch.
