@anoyonmus it’s not like saying that. What!?! That makes no sense. It’s well documented that a few IPs were co-owned by Nintendo and the dev got the rights back. The Wonderful 101 is now owned solely by Platinum again. I’m not sure what the specifics were around Fatal Frame but it’s entirely possible and likely KT got the rights back like Platinum did for The Wonderful 101. But Bayo is 100% owned by Nintendo. Platinum can’t buy out Nintendo for them.
Anyway the conversation people are referencing is old. Like I said it’s most likely they either have gotten 100% ownership back or the process of doing so.
Also Nintendo doesn’t “relent” publishing rights ever as far as I know. Platinum was very clear, they had to get the rights back to publish elsewhere. Nintendo doesn’t “relent”.
@Ralizah Oh I don’t disagree about about anything you side and especially not about the digital only, but it’s like TMS. They still used the censored version. Repeating the same mistakes. It sold horribly, but business people don’t always look at digital being a detractor. (Nor censorship). Especially with more and more sales being digital. Doki Doki sold 500k digital only. That’s a “niche” horror game. I wouldn’t compare the two,but I can see where it would be made.
( Bayo isn’t a fair comparison because the first one wasn’t just on the WiiU there in lies the issue.)
That said I really don’t see any other Halloween style games launching in October; so I think it might swing some good sales at least enough to maybe remaster something else.
@Ralizah well as @AndyKazama it’s “stuck on a dead platform”. A lot of Wii U games suffered from this issue got a full price Switch port and sold significantly better. There are a few that didn’t but given how terrible the WiiU sold most people consider anything coming off that platform as “fresh to them. This also probably requires the least amount of work to make look good by modern standards.
I mean look at how well Skyward Sword is selling and that wouldn’t have been a lot of people’s choice for “remastered” Zelda game. (And that was on the Wii).
@anoyonmus It’s not the “Publishing Rights” they hold as Crimson Butterfly in its OG form never appeared on a Nintendo Platform. Rather the remake. In other words, It was ownership like @rpg2000 mentioned.
However after the E3, the trailers were scrubbed, and Nintendo’s name doesn’t appear on any but the Nintendo one. That tells me that’s it’s probably more like The Wonderful 101 situation where they got the “ownership” rights back… quietly.
@uptownsoul Absolutely, but it’s not just PushSquare a lot of outlets rush to report the numbers but it’s only half a picture. For instance, the Xbox split would be a lot less brutal Not amazing just not the “brutal, bleak” picture you’d think it was from the UK Physical sales. Actually the sales are more inline with console divide split 70/30.
Just like I’m sure Neo instead of being 67/33 will factor more in PSs favor and be more closer to 60/40 as it is Nintendo first franchise, but Nintendo sales are also more physical and there is a all digital PS5.
Also, some games are digital only like Psychonauts 2. So that games no even going to chart until monthly. Or you know PC sales entirely missing …
Unless it’s a country thats physical first; not having digital sales is missing a huge part of the picture, but I’m not sure how many people would be interested in monthly sales having already read the weekly sales?
I couldn’t speak to the analytics but I just don’t think they’d be as high …
@Tharsman With how the Xbox ecosystem lends itself to Digial- Quick Resume, Cloud save transfers, etc, and a lot of games have no physical release; digital makes more sense
Why buy Nier Replicant physically, when Automata is digital only etc
Anyway I’m right there with you. I’m physical with everything else but Xbox
I’m hoping with this data we can stop blaming the country of origin of the game and that people will finally realize most games are bought digitally on Xbox. Yes I know GP plays a factor, but those not on GP are still more likely to purchase the game digitally for the platform. Again it’s not the game; it’s the gamers.
@AhmadSumadi It’s widely known MS uses multiple different payment choices for devs.
@NEStalgia Yeah I’m not about to make comment on that. You aren’t trapping me down that rabbit hole.
@UltimateOtaku91 Scarlet Nexus has a lot of digital bonuses and the deluxe edition was “digital only”. I don’t know if that’s a factor or not but it’s something to consider.
@NEStalgia the problem, and @uptownsoul is alluding to this isn’t that “It’s a Japanese game” but rather any software attachment rate in the UK is much lower on Xbox. At least, I think that’s what they are getting at. Anyway it doesn’t have anything to do with it being a Japanese game Hitman 3 for instance was only 27% as well. It’s the software attachment rate of all games not just Japanese ones.
@fR_eeBritney not really. I mean I’m sure it’s a reason but Nintendo has dominated there for a while. It’s hard for anyone to squeeze into the Japanese market against Nintendo.
@Matroska nah they remade/remastered (demastered?) the OG game using the Switch as the lead platform. It’s why the higher visuals couldn’t be imported in; it’s basically a different game. I mean they probably could have, but the amount of work probably didn’t weigh the cost. The easiest way to compare is looking at how the light works in caves and things. It’s pretty easy to see that the two games have different light maps, etc. Like if you see the difference between the two Persona Strikers games; you can see that it’s Downscaled version of the PS4 version. But the DQ11S game isn’t an exact side by side match for the PS4 version.
That said having a newer version doesn’t necessarily mean the graphics are automatically better. I mean sure UE4–>UE5 but that’s technically two different engines. On the other hand UE4.52–>UE4.53 could easily mean different tools kits and support etc
@Matroska Um I don’t think your quite right about DQ11s, I think they needed to wait for an update to UE4 not a roll back to UE3, I dunno could be wrong.
I will say Yoshi Crafted World is on Unreal 4 and I think Octopath Traveler is to.
As for UE5, it’s already been confirmed it will support Switch, and given the current Switch rumors; it’d be weird for some version of Nintendo hardware not to work with UE5 in the future.
@rjejr the Switch 2 is most likely why they didn’t announce platforms. Judging from the title card, the combat system talk, and using Unreal 5, the game most likely just went to full production from pre production. 2023 would be extremely optimistic, 2024 is my guess.
@naruball Let me rephrase that. It was possible to buy a brand new one from stores in Japan and Asia.
Also, “effectively stopped” does not mean “discontinued” nor does that mean it was impossible to buy them in all areas. All that amounts to is anecdotal evidence which is of course not factual.
@naruball Pretty sure they are right. Vita production officially stopped in 2019. While new Vitas in the West were harder to get; you could get a new one from someone selling a Japanese one.
Okay and this is still stupid as they still sold dev kits a very short time ago. Again, with this new reprieve they could have set a much more reasonable deadline for the devs, still gated it. Just more reasonable. This lack of transparency with them is frustrating. What’s more is keeping the store open has divide the consumer based who were very upset by the decision.
As a fan of the franchise; I couldn’t stand it and think it’s garbage.
If I take my lens off-
It’s okay but a lot of plot points are unexplained. Like the reason why Mortal Kombat exists in the first place. The concept of “realms” going to war with each other isn’t explained at all. The combat minus the Sub/Scorpion fight and Sonya vs Kano was slow. The idea that robotic arms and laser eyes are super powers opposed to machine based. And Cole was sooo unneeded. Not to mention a lot of character were under utilized and died within minutes of their appearances Reptile, Nitara. My little brother didn’t even realize reptile was a character.
It’s okay but it’s not better than the previous one, at least that had a tournament in it.
Well the good news is that with all companies competing, we as consumers have some push back. Companies have to think twice about certain decisions; Live doubling, Vita store closing etc.
Also, The bulk of the PSP library is physical, it’s sad but reasonable.I just hope now the Vita devs can publish their games.
@UltimateOtaku91 anime is actually a different side of Sony. SME is the one trying to buy Crunchyroll. SME is still Japanese based and pretty separate from SIE. Yes big Sony owns them both but as an example SME is publishing a game on Xbox later this year. So two seepage companies within one umbrella.
@thefourfoldroot Oh please now your on the backfoot and you know it. You were saying to someone else, which had nothing too with the article, that the word “rotate” was being used as “marketing term”. I stated that no it wasn’t and brought up a context in which the word rotation is used and isn’t marketing but every day word. Then I brought up why rotating like this isn’t a bad thing. At this point, you directly called me “silly”. Like “Silly rabbit trick are for kids”. Yeah okay Im silly. Naturally, I called you out on that, and then you back pedaled and mixed my first and second points up from my original post. which were in two different paragraphs and discussing two different things. Then I directly pointed out your limited use of the word “rotate”. Listen, I don’t know what point you think you argued well considering you needed to insult me and mixed my original post but whatever. Have fun.
@thefourfoldroot Two different contextual arguments and you know it. Don't try to belittle me. 1) The conversation about bread had to do with people's mindset not the word "Rotation". it was clearly in the part of my argument, so no. Don't take that out of context. 2) Did you miss the part where I said Libraries sell materials they rotate out? Most of the books that get "rotated out" don't go to another library. They get sold, thrown away, or given away. 3) You're taking one definition of the word "Rotate" but there are definitions Webster's dictionary definition 4) to exchange (individuals or units) with others Dictionary.com defition 3) To Replace.
@thefourfoldroot it’s not due to shelf space not 100%. It’s funny you think that. Or that you think I’m “silly”. Fun fact I interned at a library while I was doing my masters in library science. And that’s what I did when the library had more than enough space. Get back to me when you actually know what you are talking about.
@SegataSanshiro @thefourfoldroot actually “rotate” is not marketing speak. Libraries do this all over the US. If assume they’ll world because the books often go out of countries. Anyway, It’s a proven point collections can get stale. “Rotating” the collection helps get people’s eyes on things. And yes by “rotating” that means “rotating out” not keeping in the back some where. The books get sent to other libraries or sold. Either way it Keeps the staleness away. It’s actually thing and I don’t know how that works in the UK but in the US they rotate out materials all the time.
In fact that’s why PSNow doesn’t seem as shiny, the collection is stale. PS Plus has a new selection every month. PSNow, it sometimes takes months to get new stuff. The same thing is happening up NSO. It’s the same amount of games, but because instead of monthly it’s 2-3 months people are “eh.”
Just look at what happens when bread people rotate bread on the shelf. People think it’s fresh. Sometimes it is but sometimes if you look at the dates it not. Many of them don’t bother looking at dates. It’s the rotation.
(Not to mention the vast majority of people don’t finish games, sure people on this board have. My friend owned KH3 twice as long as I did l; I finished it, finished the DLC, and could have replayed it. She’s still in the same spot.)
@QueenOfHearts38 I think it depends on the game. The big titles do usually have sales though. But I use it more to try out stuff that I know I’m not going to buy, things out of my comfort zone.
@Grumblevolcano First, it’s not “better” there are very few Switch games that don’t support Gyro. They’ve even patched older games like Doom and Doom II to have it. In fact, companies get lambasted over it. I don’t know where you getting “far from ideal”. I can only think of a handful of games that don’t.
Second, if that was the case you’d see none of these companies adding haptic feedback, but so far every game is. And why don’t games that are only on PS4 have gyro? Hmm?
@Grumblevolcano I’m countering the Gyro argument because a lot of games rerelease for Switch and have it. For instance, Overwatch. There are there for Switch, not for PS4. And as far as I know OW never supported crossplay, so why wouldn’t you add that to PS4? At the very least it could have been added when they added it to Nintendo. Look how many games are patching in Haptic feedback. No, that has nothing to do with the XB1 controller, and everything to do with the Nintendo fanbase being pretty vocal about that feature and Nintendo helping to pushing it like Sony is pushing haptic feedback.
@QueenOfHearts38 assuming you only get Gamepass for that one game. But as also mentioned in the thread you get a discount when you buy games in GP with a sub. Even if if outright bought it’s cheaper.
@UltimateOtaku91 well no actually it makes perfect sense. There 3 major game publishers and platform owners and then after that a ton of big publishers like THQ, Rockstar, Capcom, Square Enix, 2k, EA, Activisom, etc
Anime, on the other hand, has like 5 big players and that’s being generous.
@TheFrenchiestFry warning yes or at least stop selling those dev kits. I mean seriously would that have been so hard.
@David187 the issue in my opinion is the deplorable behavior towards the Vita Devs. Not sending out a dev kit or at least giving the Vita a year or longer. It’s not the death of the store, which is annoying for sure, that upsets me but your statement lacked a general regard for the indie devs actively working on their projects. That does matter :/ but I appreciate the clarification.
@David187 I love how when something doesn’t matter to you; it must not matter at all. There is no way the Vita store was such a huge loss they they couldn’t afford to keep it up. Unless of course Sony’s in that dire straights, in which case something else is wrong and other changes need to be made.
They could have at least give everyone year’s notice but they handed out Devs kits for the Vita less than a month ago. Dev Kits!?!
@Matroska well again Sega isn’t saying it runs at 4k60 on their own blog. Their saying it runs 4k30 and most other sites say the same thing, this is the only one reporting 4k60.
Edit: If it gets confirmed great but why wouldn’t Sega say so themselves?
No no no, absolute mess. It was hard to figure out when you were supposed to watch. The schedule changed a few times. Jeff would claim certain publisher events were part of it, after the event was shown.
Digital events can work, but they need to be structured and short. Not drip feed fragmented over months.

Re: Reaction: Sony Said Xbox Game Pass Isn't Sustainable, Then Released One of Its Tentpole Titles into the Service Anyway
Hmm?
Re: Reaction: Sony Said Xbox Game Pass Isn't Sustainable, Then Released One of Its Tentpole Titles into the Service Anyway
Re: Sony Game MLB The Show 21 Will Be Free with Game Pass on Xbox, Full-Price on PS5, PS4
@QueenOfHearts38 assuming you only get Gamepass for that one game. But as also mentioned in the thread you get a discount when you buy games in GP with a sub. Even if if outright bought it’s cheaper.
Re: Sony Game MLB The Show 21 Will Be Free with Game Pass on Xbox, Full-Price on PS5, PS4
So yeah big difference.
Re: Many PS Vita Devs Cancel Projects After Sudden PS Store Closure
@TheFrenchiestFry warning yes or at least stop selling those dev kits. I mean seriously would that have been so hard.
@David187 the issue in my opinion is the deplorable behavior towards the Vita Devs. Not sending out a dev kit or at least giving the Vita a year or longer. It’s not the death of the store, which is annoying for sure, that upsets me but your statement lacked a general regard for the indie devs actively working on their projects. That does matter :/ but I appreciate the clarification.
Re: Many PS Vita Devs Cancel Projects After Sudden PS Store Closure
@David187 I love how when something doesn’t matter to you; it must not matter at all. There is no way the Vita store was such a huge loss they they couldn’t afford to keep it up. Unless of course Sony’s in that dire straights, in which case something else is wrong and other changes need to be made.
They could have at least give everyone year’s notice but they handed out Devs kits for the Vita less than a month ago. Dev Kits!?!
That’s absurd.
Re: Sony's $1.1 Billion Buyout of Crunchyroll to Face Further Scrutiny
@Jaxx420 they would. Disney had to sell Fox TV channel because Disney owns ABC. It does matter.
Re: Cooking Mama: Cookstar Suddenly Available on US PlayStation Store
I thought they couldn’t legally sell this game.
Re: Microsoft Reportedly Opening Its Wallet Once Again for $10 Billion Acquisition of Discord
Must be a slow news day for a PS site to be reporting on what I considering to be a MS rumor at the moment. But anyway on yo why I posted ...
@Tielo actually MS got Windows from Apple not Xerox. Apple stole it from them. This was super common back then.
Re: Reaction: What Next for PlayStation?
@deathaxe it’s funny what Auto HDR, 60 FPS mod, and a low price point has people doing...
Edit: they just added Skyrim to the FPS boost so you don’t even had to install the mod.. oops
Re: Future Bethesda Games Will Ship 'Where Game Pass Exists'
@NEStalgia not to mention they’ve all but confirmed TV streaming Id assume by TES6, they’ll be a TV App as well.
Re: Reminder: Yakuza: Like a Dragon Beats Down PS5 This Week
@Matroska well again Sega isn’t saying it runs at 4k60 on their own blog. Their saying it runs 4k30 and most other sites say the same thing, this is the only one reporting 4k60.
Edit: If it gets confirmed great but why wouldn’t Sega say so themselves?
Re: Reminder: Yakuza: Like a Dragon Beats Down PS5 This Week
@Medic_Alert I was just going to post that.
Sega’s Blog post says 1440p60 4k30 https://asiablog.sega.com/archives/17630
Re: Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest Looks Poised for a Second Run
No no no, absolute mess. It was hard to figure out when you were supposed to watch. The schedule changed a few times. Jeff would claim certain publisher events were part of it, after the event was shown.
Digital events can work, but they need to be structured and short. Not drip feed fragmented over months.
