Re: Japanese PS5 Hardware May Be Being Sent Overseas, Explaining Soft Software Sales

SweetSummerShunv

Hmmmm... I was wondering why the Japanese PS5 units are going at a LOWER price sometimes than the Chinese domestic ones on Ali platforms, I guess this explains it. Previously a Japanese PS5 unit would cost at least a few dozen bucks more but now that markup difference has evaporated.

As for the locking of titles, it's actually surprisingly easy to bypass the restrictions on non-approved games on a Chinese domestic PS5 unit, and it's a non-issue if the discs contain the games fully. Most vendors including Sony's own flagship store would teach you means to bypass that and hard bans on game sales i.e. removal of sales pages from ecommerce platforms are far and few inbetween, in fact only one game on the PS4 and one game on the Switch had gotten that treatment in my last five years of gaming in this country.

Re: Sony Could Skip PS5 Pro for PS6, Says Social Media Scuttlebutt

I honestly think that console generations will resemble more and more those of mobile devices going forward, so shorter generations but broader backward and forward compatibilities when comes to games. We could also see Pro and Lite variants of the same generations of consoles at launch, in order to cater to different budgets and needs of the gaming consumers.

Re: Sony to Pump More Money into Chinese PS5, PS4 Game Projects

@KaijuKaiser Oh don't even get me started on those weebs and nettouyokus. Say a few trigger words about their WWII atrocities and they'll be out in full force spamming copypastas. They run dedicated squads that search for Tweets with those keywords every few minutes and then spam you nonstop. They also deny their modern day problems and they then wonder why Nagoshi and Kobayashi are working with NetEase now - btw I also dislike NetEase, but that's because their track record in the video games department has been meh, so I better hope that they make good use of the talents they acquired from Japan.

Re: Sony to Pump More Money into Chinese PS5, PS4 Game Projects

@KaijuKaiser As a Chinese gamer chick, thank you. One simply cannot wade into a discussion about the gaming scene here without the mandatory hysteria about the possibility of "Xi Jinping introducing social credit into PSN/Steam/XBLive" or something along those lines.

There are of course legitimate critiques about the Chinese developers' attempts such as the (general lack of) quality and innovation, and indeed outside Genshin and a few indies I cannot think of any worthwhile examples. These are the critical discussions that often get overlooked whenever the usual suspects try sidetracking the discussions elsewhere.

Re: PS5 Players Don't Want to See 60fps Die Out

SweetSummerShunv

@tallythwack Most games automatically pick the most ideal settings for you based on your specs, and even if you do have to use the options setting, it shouldn't take longer than a minute. You really have to have some bizarre OCD to make a big fuss out of this.

Re: Uncharted PC Port Has Lowest Player Count of Any Sony Game at Launch

SweetSummerShunv

@Ravix It really depends on the playstyle of the player and personally I don't agree with your example there either - heck I even dunked on these PC elitists myself, but I don't think when some PC players choose to skip cutscenes, it means that they don't like stories or plots. Heck in the ancient days of PC gaming, there were wholly text-based RPG games, so I don't think skipping a few convo lines mean that PC gamers are in general uninterested in storyline.

Re: Uncharted PC Port Has Lowest Player Count of Any Sony Game at Launch

@TrickyDicky99 Piracy also helps games to get a lot more exposure so it also helps the industry, even if less directly so. Plenty of kids who were born in less-than-wealthy families got to know these games through playing the pirated versions, and end up buying legit copies when they grow up. The industry won't be getting the pirates' money anyway but stand to lose the revenue from the legit PC gamers.

Re: Uncharted PC Port Has Lowest Player Count of Any Sony Game at Launch

SweetSummerShunv

@TrickyDicky99 So now it's about the consumers, then in that case why singling out the PC gamers who pirate if they're also trying to save some money? If it's about the game studios getting compensated then buying and selling second hand games is as damaging as piracy. Don't think for a moment that if the console makers just ditch DRM tomorrow pirated discs won't start popping up all over the places, and indeed jailbroken PS5s that allow pirated games already exist:

https://metro.co.uk/2022/10/03/the-ps5-has-been-jailbroken-to-allow-pirated-games-for-the-first-time-17492849/#:~:text=It%20happens%20to%20every%20console,custom%20software%2C%20including%20pirated%20games.

Again I won't judge PS5 players who do this either, so long as you intend to go fully legit when you've landed yourself a well paid job.

Re: Uncharted PC Port Has Lowest Player Count of Any Sony Game at Launch

SweetSummerShunv

@Intr1n5ic Sony would not be getting money from the pirates at all either if they haven't released the PC port. On the contrary they'd not even get the money from PC gamers who do not pirate. Furthermore, piracy can still serve as ways to increase exposure, and do you honestly think that everyone who knows about Mario or Zelda outside the developed countries did so because they own a legit Nintendo console?

Re: Uncharted PC Port Has Lowest Player Count of Any Sony Game at Launch

SweetSummerShunv

@TrickyDicky99 Ah the sanctimony about piracy. Buying used games would have similarly deprived game studios of their income, and prior to the implementation of DRM piracy on consoles wasn't uncommon either. Going back further to the days before I was even born, Famiclones and 100-in-1 cartridges were everywhere too and ironically it's because of that Mario and Zelda have become household names.

Re: Uncharted PC Port Has Lowest Player Count of Any Sony Game at Launch

SweetSummerShunv

Tbf I feel like Uncharted's released in a rather crowded time window, awkwardly sandwiched between A Plague Tale: Requiem and Persona 5 Royal, with Modern Warfare breathing down Nathan Drake's back too. Furthermore, Uncharted as a franchise have always been viewed with some negativity amongst the so-called PC Master Race owing to its so-called CiNeMaTiCity, so it's not entirely surprising that the game didn't do as well as it should even given its mascot franchise status. Expect TLOU to do even worse imho. I personally find this kind of attitude insufferable but sadly Bloodborne or Bust is a very prevalent mentality amongst this community.

That said I'm one of the proud 10,000 players who have given the game a second go, and is eager to experience the 4K 100+fps max visuals goodness on her newly bought RTX 4090.

Re: Sony Reveals Official PS5 Pro Controller, DualSense Edge

SweetSummerShunv

I'm still not sold on getting a PS5 just yet (even though I'm definitely getting it at some stage) but this will be a perfect piece of current gen PlayStation hardware for me to get to go with the PC. I currently have an Elite Series 2 controller but I'm missing the PlayStation controller layout as of late.

Re: Gravity Rush Also Getting a Movie, It's Claimed

SweetSummerShunv

How about a PC and PS5 port of the game first? That game can definitely make use of some much beefier hardware to smooth out those jarring technical rough edges first.

That said, I don't find a Danganronpa 3-esque treatment of this franchise to tie up some loose ends.

Re: Don't Be Surprised if Sony Brings PSN Integration to PC Games

SweetSummerShunv

@Ralizah Nintendo's model only works so long as their passionate fanbase is there, and that may even change when they have a more forward looking CEO down the road. At some stage their first generations of fans will be in nursing homes barely able to move their hands or remember what 1-1 in Super Mario Bros is like. It likely won't happen for ages but at some stage even they will have to lap it up.
