Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Dragon's Dogma 2?

SterlingEyes

It’s a weird game. I don’t think it lived up to the excitement I felt watching the trailer and reading reviews but I’ve only just reached the second area (bahtaal?) about 28 hours in.

I love the pawn mechanic. It’s such an interesting system and has genuinely surprised me at times.

Combat is quite fun and I enjoy changing up vocations and skills, etc but I do wish it was a bit more skill based (I’m a dark souls guy so I enjoy being more in control of the combat rather than setting everything up in the menu then button bashing).

Exploration is good and the world looks amazing on the whole.

I don’t enjoy the lack of fast travel and having to walk back and forth between locations constantly. I don’t mind the system but I’d like more ferrystones so I could fast travel a little more often.

Enemy variety is definitely lacking. But I guess if the combat strategy doesn’t change that much it’s not that important.

I wanted to love this game, but I think I only like it. I would recommend it but with caveats.

Dragons Dogma 2 - I have mixed feelings about this game. I do wish there were more fast travel options. I enjoy exploring and opening up the map but when I have to go back and forth between the same locations I do find myself getting frustrated. It’s still probably the best game I’ve played in ages despite that.

Also HD2 which I think is going to be an ongoing love affair. It’s the first time I’ve ever got into an online multiplayer game.

Yup. Took me an hour or two to get to grips with it but I’m rolling now. I can see myself sinking a lot of time into this game.

If you’re avoiding because of micro transactions you’re missing out. They literally make no difference to the game if you ignore them. Performance has been ok so far but I’m still early on in the game.

I’ve finally accepted that I’m not going to finish RE4 remake and uninstalled it. I don’t know why I couldn’t get through it but for some reason it’s not clicking for me. I loved the original and have beaten it multiple times in the past.

I’ve tried to get into a few other games but nothings held my attention for long. I ended up picking up Jedi Survivor in the latest sale and I’m actually enjoying that - I think From Software ruined a lot of games for me, and this is a similar style of gameplay to dark souls etc.

And Helldivers 2 of course. Liberty isn’t going to fight for itself.

Re: PS Portal Proving More Popular Than Sony Expected

SterlingEyes

I got mine at launch and I love it. At least 50% of my gaming time is spent on it now and it’s increased the amount of time I spend gaming massively because I don’t need to fight for tv time anymore.

It works great on my WiFi - nothing is hard wired. I’ve even had a great time on Helldivers with it.

Slowly working my way through RE4 remake. It’s really good but not so good I can’t put it down. I’m playing an hour or so every now and then. Only just reached the castle.

Also It Takes Two with my wife which is super fun (although it’s her first ‘proper’ 3D game and she’s struggling with controlling the camera)

Re: Sony Wants PS5 Games to Automatically Adjust the Difficulty While You Play

SterlingEyes

I’m not against this but I want the option to turn it off.

I love difficult games, I’ve beaten every From Soft game and eventually made my way through Returnal (after an embarrassing number of hours/attempts) but I don’t want every game to be super challenging. The combat in BG3 was annoying me so I turned it down and I’m enjoying that game so much more now.

Finally finished BG3 this week and was excited to move on to RE4 remake or one of the other smaller games I bought in the Black Friday sale…

What actually happened is I created a new character and started BG3 again from the beginning. I’m now 9 hours in to a second playthrough and so far everything has been completely different. Such a great game.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS Portal?

SterlingEyes

I got mine yesterday and have only spent an hour or so on it. I was worried about performance as my ps5 isn’t hard wired into the router but it’s been perfect so far (in the same room at least) - no noticeable lag and way less blurry than remote play on my iMac or phone.

Only issue so far is how long it takes to wake up my ps5. Sometimes it fails to do so completely which is annoying.

Just bit the bullet on Baldurs Gate 3. I’ve been on the fence due to the digital only price and not knowing if I’ll like it. But the hype has gotten to me and it’s unlikely to be discounted anytime soon.

Completed Blasphemous 2 this week. I absolutely loved it until the final 1/4 of the game which had a ridiculously frustrating difficulty spike out of nowhere. It felt like they tacked the end on to make it last longer. I was sitting at 9/10 until that point. I’d give it a solid 7.

I also abandoned my playthrough of super Metroid last night. I got all the way to Ridley but ended up underpowered and couldn’t face backtracking for energy tanks. It’s a great game and way ahead of its time but the controls were driving me mad at times. I didn’t always feel like I had full control of Samus. It probably wasn’t a good idea playing this immediately after Blasphemous.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Baldur's Gate 3?

I’ve been playing divinity original sin 2 to see whether this is something I would enjoy but I’m too undecided to pay full price. I’ve put about 25 hours into divinity and still don’t really know what I’m doing or how anything works.

Trying to get my head around 4 different characters and what to level them up and equip them with is pretty overwhelming.

I will almost certainly buy BG3 but am most likely going to wait for a sale. Unless I bite the bullet on the Portal in which case I’ll get it then. Seems like a perfect game for handheld.
