Re: Talking Point: Are You Getting Sick of Sony's Supposedly 'Samey' Approach to Story Telling?

Stale-Bread

I'm more fed up with the open-world blueprint than the story. GoW has had grief in some form from its inception, with Kratos being tricked into killing his wife and child.

Last of Us 2 was a sequel to a game that genuinely contained one of the saddest scenes in a game and always revolved around Joel's memory of his daughter.

Ghost is in the vein of samurai cinema, and the plot centered around revenge sounds apt to me.

As for Clair Obscur, well, I have a very unpopular opinion about that one. I find it to be way overblown in how good it actually is due to the small team and relatively high production values. It has a fantastic soundtrack, but its central theme of grief and loss was done so much better in Banishers (which I played through using PS Plus during the summer), and yet I don't believe that game got even half the coverage. I won't go into anything else though, as it's off-topic regarding the article.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Borderlands 4?

Stale-Bread

The best Borderlands game is Tales of the Borderlands. For some reason I found that game genuinely funny in parts whereas the actual FPS titles just don't hit the spot in the humour department and I actually HATE Scooter.

Re: Enjoy the New Resident Evil Requiem Trailer with Improved PS5 Graphics

Stale-Bread

But is that the Switch 2 running docked? Handheld normally fares worse but pretty awesome if you can play Resi in handheld mode looking as good as that. Personally the resi engine hair looks kinda weird and shimmery in these games, unless you play on a good pc so I don't really care about that.

What I'm interested in is how this thing runs when it's ACTUALLY being played. I read there are more open areas and we know how good this engine is at dealing with large open maps don't we everyone? 😭🤣

Re: 'Finish Him': Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection Launches 30th October on PS5, PS4

Stale-Bread

I don't understand the point of this on a personal level. I was there back when they released and they were awesome due to the fatalities and blood but to me they pale in comparison to Street Fighter as fighting games, especially the first 2. MK1 is awful, MK2 is fun but pallette swap galore, MK3 is ok UMK3 at least has a huge roster going for it.

The worst part is these will be dead online unless there is crossplay. I wanted to play Caps fighting collection 2 online and as it has no crossplay it was dead within 8 weeks of release 😭

Re: Cronos: The New Dawn (PS5) - Captivating, Twisted, and Wickedly Entertaining

Stale-Bread

@AaronBayne So how are the scares and overall atmosphere? I had no idea this game existed until someone on here mentioned it in an article and it looks right up my street.

The reason I ask is you mention there are some cheap ones but Silent Hill 2 jumped me more than any game in my entire life lol. I'm never scared by these things but the sheer claustrophobic atmosphere in SH2 was fantastic, does this come near to that.

Re: Gears of War: Reloaded (PS5) - Iconic Xbox Shooter Is the Perfect Intro for PlayStation Fans

Stale-Bread

@TrollOfWar That's pretty awesome regarding the online play, feel an idiot for not bothering to look that up 🤦🏻

As for the info on why they didn't release the trilogy I had no idea they migrated it. It's really just a personal peeve because the gunplay was refined as they went on along with more enemy types and some pretty awesome locations, I'd love to play through them again one after another and while I think 40 is steep for one I would however pay a full 70 for all 3 especially as you'd get horde mode as well. Ill probably get this on a price drop because I was just flat out terrible at multiplayer. It will be interesting for new players though because of I'm remembering correctly you can kill your own teammates. The good old days of some nob on your side taking it down for the opposite team 🤣

Re: Gears of War: Reloaded (PS5) - Iconic Xbox Shooter Is the Perfect Intro for PlayStation Fans

Stale-Bread

Why did they not release the whole trilogy? I loved the first 3 games (never bothered to much with the multiplayer) but 40 quid for the first game is really pushing it and I don't normally complain about the price of games.

Also I couldn't see anywhere if you can coop online? Pretty big omission if not as the game is 10x the fun with another player but even single is a blast, then again I understand most people will not pay this much for 6 hours of linear gameplay. On another note I actually finished this game on insane in single player back in the olden days, pretty tough cookie.

Re: Praise, Raiden! Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection Adds Mythologies, Special Forces

Stale-Bread

@Scottyy Was about to say the same. Apart from MK2 waaaaaaay back on the Mega drive it's genuinely the only other game in the entire series I have genuinely liked and it's not a half bad attempt at a beat em up in a 3d space. I remember it being unintentionally amusing as well.

Obviously fans of the series will love this but the MK games are very jank to me compared to SF. Mk 1 and 2 are really basic and unless the online is packed you'll need at least on mate who likes to play, no fun was ever had going against the AI in these things lol

Re: 12 PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for August 2025 Announced

Stale-Bread

Please allow us to buy resi 2 and 3 which allows everyone to get them and those that bought them previously to get them "free"

Capcom/Sony locked both directors cut and Dino Crisis to premium only on release and it took a few weeks of everyone complaining and wondering what drugs they were on to allow everyone to purchase them.

Re: Now It's Being Sued, Blatant Horizon Rip-Off Removes Copycat Artwork

Stale-Bread

I've never really liked Aloy to much as a character but Sylens was brilliant in both. In fact I end up liking the supporting cast more than the main character in these games. Can't quite put my finger on why though.

My favourite series for character depth and development is the Yakuza games. The characters to me are so well done and each distinctly unique from one another.

As for this thing, it looked like they put in "Aloy as anime kid" into and ai generator lol

Re: 10 New PS Plus Extra, Premium Games Announced for July 2025

Stale-Bread

Where are the Resi games? I was hoping they would be in here in July because now I have to hope for August as it was slated summer after all 😭 my issue is if Capcom do the dumb thing of making them only available on the premium tier and unavailable to buy until everyone shouts at them for a month.

Re: Capcom Nixes Tone Deaf Conference on Monster Hunter Wilds Optimisation

Stale-Bread

While it runs fine on my Pro in performance mode the game looks awful across the board and is held up by the stellar monster designs. The environments don't seem any bigger than Worlds and as I read someone comment on another site, lack verticality. The ice Shard Cliffs and Wyveria Ruins are REALLY small maps and even the larger ones like the Wastes and Scarlet Forest aren't that big and shouldn't run as awful as they do. I'm one of the apparent few who can game at 30fps but not in this. It can't hold a steady 30 to save it's life and I even tested it with VRR in balanced uncapped. The frame read out was mental going from below 40 up to the hundreds constantly and this was in camp lol.

But like others have said, the textures. Om my god the textures are atrocious and I can't believe they were let out the gate. I haven't seen surfaces like this since the PS2 days with the most awful examples being the NPC's. Did they even want us to know what material the clothes were made of? Monsters fare slightly better but in quality mode the texture streaming issues are so prevalent it's off putting (another reason I switched to performance) with enemies turning to blobs and environments missing just about all there detail as maps flicker on and off.

I played Dragons Dogma 2 after the myriad of patches and its better than this game while rendering a massive map, no way near the level of Shadows, Horizon, Red Dead or Cyberpunk for example but still a hell of a sight nicer to look at.

Sorry rant over.

On the topic of this story though while having a conference on optimisation after releasing the next game in your biggest series and it being an non optimised mess (especially PC) is ironic, threatening people with crap like this is just the pinnacle of man baby tantrums. Seems gaming is riddled with these people which is a damn shame. Not only does it sully those of us who are not (most of us I hope) but further plays into the narrative that they are toys for people who just haven't matured and when things like this or the shizzle when Last of us 2 came out etc happens....well I can't blame anyone who has that opinion.

Re: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Patch 1.3.0 Makes Big Balance and Difficulty Adjustments

Stale-Bread

I really like this game but I'm not sold on the parry and dodge, I can do it but I feel there are places where they nigh on force it with Clea being the pinnacle. I couldn't be bothered after 2 goes and I refuse to just make some cheap shot build to overcome a challenge when it should be more than doable without it. I've never been good with theory craft etc so I'm just going with what works for me which requires I use dodge and parry all the time, luckily I'm not to bad with it.

Re: PS Plus Premium Games for June and July 2025 Confirmed, Resident Evil 2, 3 This Summer

Stale-Bread

@AtlasLivesAgain Just to be "that guy" I would whole heartedly recommended it above the remake, as much as I love that version. The second scenario and the way A and B are done is so much better. It has better music (I play the remake using the PS1 soundtrack) and it's just a ton of fun, of course I am completely biased. It's the opposite for me regarding the 3rd game. If the remake of that was longer and had more content such as spending more time in the city, it would be superior. Even then I prefer it. I could just never gel with the original Resi 3 🤷🏻

Re: PC Modders Are Already Making Skimpy New Stellar Blade Outfits, And Eve's Body Double Wants to Model Them

Stale-Bread

I'd say pc players were thirsty dudes but at this point I'd be more inclined to say dehydrated lol

Also to the point above, women do in fact wear outfits like Eve, shock horror. However I believe the "outrage" comes not from the fact that some of the clothes are worn by women of their own choice but more the fact that a certain demographic of blokes just can't play anything without skimpy big tiddy on show and that's it's done to sexualise and objectify. So insert online vitriol for Aloy and insert Mr thirst for Eve 🤣

Re: Poll: Do You Care About the Death of PS Stars?

Stale-Bread

I liked it as a way to get something back on my digital purchases. The rewards are whack though, more expensive to redeem your points for the games than it is to redeem them for credit and then buy said game, even if it wasn't on sale.

Digital collectables were nice and all but it would have made a lot more sense for them to have integrated the whole thing into your main account you use on the ACTUAL console. Nobody could see the damn things making them almost completely worthless.

Re: Analytics Firms Predict Pitiful Full-Price Sales for DOOM: The Dark Ages on PS5

Stale-Bread

So is it not doing well because it's on game pass or because it's an expensive short single player game or because it's to different to the last 2 or because the disc based copy is a coaster?

So they try something new and it doesn't do as well, that's we we get copy paste, single player not selling? Hmmm maybe but that's we get bloated open world because so many seem to correlate cash spent with time investment= better value rather than the fun you can have, this is why I never got a Bulletstorm sequel 😭 game pass, credible reason because why buy it if you can get it for "free" and the disc based argument? This will detract some people but not a majority I wouldn't have thought. I mean i see why some still prefer it but games have so many patches your game on disc is nigh on worthless these days.

Shame really because I like it a lot more than Eternal. And for replay value? Do people not recall paying 50 bones for 2 hour games in the 90s or what? We used to play them again because they were fun, not because the game gave us a specific reason to.

Re: Inquiry Already Underway Over Lacklustre DOOM: The Dark Ages Opening

Stale-Bread

The constant price argument with games is weird to me. They were never a standard entertainment product and have always been relatively expensive, even in terms of earnings at the time. Games in the early 90's were £40 and above, Sonic 3 was about 45 to 50 quid in 1994, it had six levels (remember SEGA sold the other half of the game later in the year for another £40) and took 25 minutes to finish it. If we increase games along with inflation they would be costing over a £100 today.

The other thing I find weird with gamers is this ridiculous price to play time = value. I mean....do any other people actually do this with their entertainment lol. It's ridiculous.

As for the disc argument, I agree the game should be on there for those that wish to purchase physical media and it's odd that it's allowed to happen the way it does. I don't think it dampens sales numbers by a lot though but if publishers want us to go digital can they lessen the costs a little? Must save a packet not having to distribute hard copies all over the world.

Re: Poor Showing for DOOM: The Dark Ages on PS5 Pro

Stale-Bread

I've never bothered with digital foundry. If a game is jank and a visual mess to the point it's discernable to the average person it's generally mentioned in reviews. Digital Foundry stick it under the digital microscope and everyone cries. Also this "It's made worse on PS5 on purpose" schtick is playground stuff that I Don't expect from anyone above the age of 11.

Also this is what Push wrote in their review

"A rock-solid 60 frames-per-second is maintained on PS5 Pro"

Soooooo Push Square wrote the above, seemingly not noticing said drops throughout their own play through but DF says it does as they monitor every scene and the same outlet writes this article? Weird.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

Stale-Bread

9/10 so far although I keep ballsing up the parry and I REFUSE to not use it because it looks so damn cool (and causes good break dmg)

The soundtrack so far is absolutely brilliant. If this thing doesn't win some awards for at least this then it's a travesty, so many styles and genres and I'm only in the cliffs after the village.

V/A is very good considering the budget I assume this game had, some vacant stares in atd scenes but the facial mocap is pretty impressive in the big cut scenes. Combat is great fun (despite my aforementioned failing) and although I'm never good at "builds" I can see there is a decent amount you can do for the people that are. Also I love the weight of the attacks, FF Rebirth and even games like DmC can feel like your getting hit and hitting with paper weapons but in this thing, a giant stone club coming down sounds and looks just like it should.

Only issues I have is getting turned around in a dungeon and there aren't to many landmarks so I end up running about aimlessly a little, I would have liked a mini map SOMETIMES but I can understand why it isn't there. Oh and Gustave is literally Robert Patterson lol

Re: Talking Point: What Should Ghost of Yotei's Biggest PS5 Improvements Be?

Stale-Bread

@DETfaninATL You mean the mode that was given for free using assets from the main game that released about 3 months after the main game?

I seriously doubt it took anything away from the development of the actual title or it's dlc and tbh I found it so much more fun than the actual game anyway. It made GoT my most played game at over 500 hrs lol. Not sure I should admit that 😅

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for May 2025 Announced

Stale-Bread

I have bolt gun and there is something off. It may be the fact that the enemies have no collision (at least I read that's the case a long while back) so basically, you fight a horde and unlike nearly every FPS ever Inc DOOM and Wolfenstein from over 3 decades ago the enemies don't bump into one another or path around, the just charge through one another. Can be frustrating because you die pretty easily from memory.

Wanted to try Balatro for ages and was on the fence so that's great 😃

P.S. Just incase anyone is with me, I HATE the term boomer shooter. That is all.

Re: Ghost of Yotei Gets PS5 Release Date, Trailer, Pre-Order Details

Stale-Bread

Kinda hoping they are making an upgraded and expanded legends mode because I put waaaaaay more time into that than the game itself. Played it once to 100% and enjoyed it but I never go back to these types of games, after the busywork it's almost pointless. The legends mode fixed that for me and let me enjoy the fun combat without the replay....fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Re: PS5's Pokémon Rival Brings Underdressed Waifus, Cute Creatures, and Farming

Stale-Bread

@Sevenifity Depends on the gacha, some you have to play like a job because otherwise you'll fall so far backwards that the power creep means you will be stuck when it comes to completing harder content.

I can't play these types of Gachas myself, they require to much of your time, especially at the start.

Also I may be unpopular here but I can't stand the "waifu" and "husbando" tags, especially not from grown adults, cringe beyond belief.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Dev 'Actively Looking' at Adding Harder Difficulty Mode

Stale-Bread

@Cornpop76 That's my thoughts exactly. I haven't played an assassin's creed since Odyssey but I recall in that game taking on the mercs that came after you and demolishing strongholds with relative ease even when under levelled. This not so much, granted I'm not far in as I'm addicted to Space Marine 2 but even at level 5 a lvl 6 samurai can whup my arse if I'm sloppy.

Difficulty is a strange thing with gamers. Some people can find fun only in the hardest of games, some only in the absolute easiest. I'm in the middle because it's all about the gameplay loop and how much I resonate with it.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Devs 'Actively Looking' at Adding Harder Difficulty Mode

Stale-Bread

I've found Shadow's combat harder than previous Assassin's Creed games and while it's very much like Ghost of Sushi 🍣 (good thing) because of the level system its 2 hit deaths in some instances. The perfect dodge window is pretty tight and parry seems much tighter than Ghost and even Sekiro lol.

OBS once I level up and get better gear the challenge will be mitigated somewhat but I wouldn't say it's easy if you try and confront enemies even slightly above your level.

Sushi had very cinematic combat but it was easy peasy, very very fun (hence my shameful amount of hours in the legends mode) but very easy.

Re: Analyst Firm Predicts Some Pretty Unimpressive Sales Numbers for Xbox Ports on PS5

Stale-Bread

Hi Fi Rush barely sold on Xbox either due to being in game pass and as much as I like the game the rhythm part of it's combat kinda sucks some of the fun out for me.

As for the rest it all depends on how much effort it takes to port. If it doesn't cost a lot and takes minimal manpower it's never a waste to stick them on another platform, it's extra cash at the end of the day and its more money made than the initial outlay, well quids in. Don't see the point of these articles or the "analysts" either.

Re: No Platinum Trophy in Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Remaster's Meagre PS5 Trophy List

Stale-Bread

@Foxhound I'm gonna be pedantic here and state while the "trophy" is "exclusive" what they are and how you unlock them isn't. Started on the awesome 360 and Sony copied them.

While I myself quite like them and try for platinums or to get as many as possible on games I like I don't see the point of playing BECAUSE of them. Also I don't think it was you who said it but you don't get less of a game without trophy's lol. What kind of backwards logic is that?

Re: Video: PS5 Pro vs PS5 - Assassin's Creed Shadows Stuns on Sony's Hardware

Stale-Bread

@DennisReynolds Maybe not Wilds....more the engines fault and bad optimisation but it doesn't look very good outside of the curated story cut scenes. Awful textures, like seriously the worst textures I've seen since the PS2 in a AAA game (and the PS2 had an excuse being a..well PS2) I constantly have the textures disappear as well, the oil well basin is terrible for this but it happens on the monsters, nerscilla (sp) and the octo literally look like blobs. It's carried by it's art style because from a technical standpoint it's really bad.

Re: Preview: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Looks Stunning, Hits Hard, and Feels Fresh on PS5

Stale-Bread

What's does the world do when the Paintress gets to number 15 I wonder? Does the world reboot, has this happened before? I mean a world of 15 yr olds and below isn't gonna do to well lol.

I'll keep an eye on this as it's refreshing to get shorter titles, games are becoming way way to bloated and "long" for the sake of it these days, seemingly to appeal to this wide swathe of individuals who equate game length to cost to overall value. For instance I have near 200 hours in Streets of Rage 4 since it's release because it's so fun to play and good for quick sessions. I haven't played through the likes of Horizon, GoW reboots or GoT more than the first because they are so bogged down and long. Different strokes I guess.
