Jaws' Infamous NES Adaptation Is Getting Ported to PS5, with All-New Features 1

Jaws’ notorious NES adaptation is coming to the PS5 in 2026, courtesy of Limited Run Games.

That means there are a couple of retail editions on the way, which we’ll dig into shortly, but first more on the game itself.

Originally released in 1987 by LJN, this title was credited to Atlus, but was actually subcontracted to Westone. (Who, incidentally, also made Milano’s Odd Job Collection for the PS1, which we reviewed this week.)

The game is actually quite interesting, but infamously undercooked.

You’ll control a boat from a top-down perspective, exploring the ocean. Occasionally you’ll hit enemies which will shift the perspective to side-scrolling shoot-‘em-up sequences.

You’ll need to use your harpoon to take out these foes, earning you currency which can be spent on upgrades.

Eventually you’ll come face-to-face with Jaws, enabling you to deplete his health. Once you’ve done so, you’ll get one shot to take him out from a first-person perspective, thus concluding the campaign.

This original experience will be represented on the PS5 with quality-of-life improvements like save states, Trophies, and rewind.

However, the developer will also be including a ROM hack in the form of Jaws: Enhanced Edition, which will include the following features, as outlined on Limited Run’s website:

  • Massively expanded, multi-chapter adventure filled with nods and homages to all four Jaws films
  • New quests and objectives
  • New abilities and weapons for your boat and diver alike
  • More challenging enemies, and more ways to deal with them
  • A robust realization of the NES game's role-playing elements and inspirations

As we alluded to earlier, there’ll be a couple of physical versions available, which you’ll be able to pre-order between 19th December, 2025 and 18th January, 2026.

They are:

Standard Edition ($34.99)

  • Physical copy of the game
  • 8-page Booklet

Bigger Boat Edition ($99.99)

  • Physical copy of the game
  • Everything included in the Retro Edition of the game
  • Nintendo Entertainment System-inspired box
  • Game soundtrack on a physically pressed CD
  • Pin badge Jaws keychain
  • Pixelated shark lamp

There’s no word on a release date, but the game’s due out in 2026.

We’re particularly intrigued by that Enhanced Edition, because it sounds like a lot of work is going into that. But is this something you’re interested in? Let us know below.
