So amazing to see Astro get a big marketing blowout. Hopefully, it translates to sales units and future prosperity for Team Asobi. I've pre-ordered the physical edition and limited edition controller, so I'm definitely supporting.
This is a headline I never thought I'd see. Never played much of this game, but it dominated during my childhood. Crazy to see it still going strong, but good for the player base and developers.
@CJD87 Yup, absolutely agree. I love rich, dense storytelling and that's what attracted to me to PlayStation and continues to do so. Those titles will always be mine and their bread and butter. However, I love a vast amount of other genres and I want my first or second party games to capitalize on other genres and be more experimental. PlayStation's earning call highlighting experimental games and Astro Bot's release and reception definitely give me hope for that.
@CJD87 I couldn't agree more. I so badly want this to be successful to show Sony that fans want other genres like PlayStation of old. Give me the weird, wacky games alongside their AAA single player experiences. Also, Astro's Playroom is one of my favorite PS5 games and I want Team Asobi to prosper.
@3Above Yeah I'm hoping they can get a player base boost. I played quite a bit and was there day one so I get all those exclusive goodies which is nice. Hoping they scale back the insane prices of those microsanctions in the store and offer good value for their battle passes.
I enjoyed this game quite a bit when it launched, despite the negative reviews and reception. I'm probably going to hop back in when it goes free-to-play. Here's hoping they get new players in and offer meaningful updates to increase the longevity of the game. It's got fast paced movement and fun hero types so I'd recommend it to anyone curious, especially now that its free.
I liked the beta, but definitely had my gripes. Thought the movement was a little slow and, outside of a couple, most of the characters didn't appeal to me from a gameplay standpoint. Also, with Marvel Rivals coming out this year, I've got my fun, free-to-play hero shooter set. Really hoping Firewalk are given the opportunity to refine the game with content/updates and not kicked out the door.
As a Disney, Marvel and Star Wars fan, I hate to say it, but this may get me back in 🤣The Peelverine and rumored Deadpeel outfits are calling my name. Also, having a storefront of rotating IP from Disney is tempting.
I sure did! But man, Sony did not make it easy with their shoddy PlayStation Direct website. Wario64 and Walmart came into clutch. Can't wait until September.
Praying and hoping this signals Microsoft to finally do a Banjo Kazooie collection in the same vein of the N Sane Trilogy. It'd be a day one buy for me.
Capcom has been on a roll with incredible release after another so I'd be down for them to revive any of their classic IP. Personally, I'm hoping for a DMC 1 Remake as a fan of action games. However, I'll take a modern, survival horror dinosaur game any day of the week, especially with how amazing the new RE games are.
Very cool to see Remedy supporting a physical version not to mention offering a collector's edition for hardcore fans. Not having a physical release at launch definitely hurt them alongside being exclusively on Epic Games Store for PC. AW2 is one of my favorite games of 2023 so I'm excited to jump into the DLC, especially with Rose, Tim and Jesse returning!
Hell yeah! A fast-paced, action sword-fu game with a dark, eerie tone and freaky enemy types. Loved the first trailer and this gameplay makes me even more pumped, especially considering its true to how it originally looked in the speedy combat. Sign me up babyyyyyyy!
The rollout for the Octopath games was weird so definitely par for the course for Square😆Very nice that PS players finally get the first title. I enjoyed the demo on Switch and was hoping for a PS release. With Square Enix's multiplatform push, hopefully there'll be less odd release cadences.
People often set ridiculous, pie in the sky expectations with SGF, but I'm pumped for new gameplay/updates on already announced games. I prefer to judge a show based on what's there rather than what isn't and my high hopes. Good on Geoff for continuing to manage expectations. I'm hoping for news on Phantom Blade Zero, Black Myth: Wukong, Alan Wake 2 DLC, SEGA's new projects and at least one PS announcement (Spider-Man 2 DLC, Stellar Blade update, LEGO Horizon, etc.)
Astro Bot is definitely the highlight of the show. Team ASOBI absolutely killed it with bright, vibrant worlds, fun new powers and just the sheer, adorable joy that is Astro. I'm so pumped its not even funny! Concord could be good. I like the colorful art style and characters, but got to see how it feels on the sticks. Hopefully, the rumors of PS having a showcase for PS5 Pro in September are true and they have big, new reveals ready.
If PS5 Pro is launching this year, there should be at least one big game to launch alongside it, whether it be first, second or third party. That could provide a big boost to console sales momentum if done correctly. Hopefully, PS has something up their sleeve.
We're finally getting PS2 games and Sly Cooper babbbbyyyy! Let's go PlayStation! If they keep up with these types of titles, Premium only becomes more enticing and lucrative. Can't wait to see classic franchises return. Here's hoping for more Sly, Killzone, Ico, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, etc. 🤞
Yes all the way! I absolutely adore Stellar Blade and it's ripe for a sequel with how much potential the story has and solid the gameplay foundation is. Very nice to see the game is successful and Shift Up is being rewarded for stepping outside the gacha bubble and doing a quality AAA console action game, especially for a South Korean studio where the former is the norm. Looking forward to all their future projects.
I didn't care about this device when it was first announced, but lately I've had an itch to get this, because playing PS games in bed sounds really nice and convenient. If Sony came out with an OLED model or if the base model goes on sale, that may push me to get it.
As someone who's played both Horizon games and enjoyed them, I would prefer another franchise to get the LEGO treatment if its a videogame and not a brick set. There's so much Horizon in the pipeline whether it be the Netflix series, Horizon 3, a multiplayer co-op game and an MMO, that I personally think other franchises would benefit better from this like Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter or, better yet, a PlayStation IP team-up game. I will keep an open mind until I see gameplay though as it's still a neat way to utilize the IP and departure for PS games overall.
@jmac1686 That would definitely be huge. The thought of PlayStation showing off an Xbox game that's coming to their platform still feels surreal to me, despite everything that's been building up.
Yeah, this seems par the course for Microsoft's third party publisher push. At this point, I expect Starfield first and, eventually, Hellblade 2 and Indiana Jones. Feels like we just got to play the waiting game, which I'm more than fine with considering how much there is to play these days.
If the Master Chief Collection or a Gears collection hit PS, I'd definitely check them out eventually. Rare Replay would be a cool one too. It would be surreal to see as those are tentpole Xbox franchises and truly solidify the new direction Microsoft is heading in.
Shift Up has absolutely killed it with Stellar Blade. I've been thoroughly enjoying the tight gameplay, cool combos and slick outfits in a game that is virtually bug free with excellent performance/visuals. Also, I love the sci-fi world design and in-game lore of tech/media's influence. With a launch day NG+ mode and now a boss rush mode incoming, we're feasting!
@Intr1n5ic I definitely think it's possible for first party games as those are built for PS5, but third party games hopefully we get at least higher resolutions and fps as patches either at the launch of the console or later down the line.
@DennisReynolds No no I meant more so for first party games. Third party games I expect more so patches for better resolutions and more consistent fps. It'd be nice for quality modes at 60 fps for those games, but I'm not banking on it.
With AI upscaling, higher resolutions/frame rates, RT support, etc., they've got my money. If Sony first party games along with third party titles like Rebirth or Alan Wake 2 get enhanced, even more reason, personally. I would love for resolution modes to run at 60 FPS. Considering PS5 first party games have 40 FPS modes, hopefully the CPU and GPU bump along with PSSR can be the secret sauce it needs to get there, at least for those games.
@ShogunRok Very comprehensive breakdown, not to mention Remake came out smack dab in the middle of the pandemic, where people had a lot more time, and in certain cases, money, to spend on new consoles/games. That was definitely a big contributing factor to its sales too.
Another release of MediEvil, huh? Alone in the Dark is neat, but Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill or Parasite Eve would be more exciting horror ports for many. Also, where are the PS2 and PS3 games?! More power to whoever feels they're getting their money's worth for Premium, but I would love a reason to subscribe and justify the recent price hike.
This seems like a decent enough start for a sequel, even if a tad disappointing. Another aspect to keep in mind is that FF is still a JRPG franchise and, inherently, those are more niche comparatively to other genres. I have faith Rebirth will have legs, especially with sales during summer, Black Friday, holidays, etc. Not to mention, a potential PC port and PS5 Pro update would also help.
If true, it's more than reasonable to expect Xbox has more ports in the works. Starfield and Indiana Jones are likely contenders, but I'd be excited for Gears, Halo or Retro Replay as well. Killer Instinct would also be a great inclusion, considering there's a larger fighting game community on PlayStation. It'll be interesting which games hit for Microsoft and how that informs which titles they bring forward.
Hats off to Shift Up for how they're handling DLC. Licensing fees make it understandable to charge for collaborations with other IPs, but other updates like original outfits and updates should be free. Story expansions with new, expanded areas, enemies, weapons, etc. also makes sense for a fee, as long as they do so responsibly.
I guess I'm in the minority, because I enjoyed the trailer. Obviously, it remains to be seen how it controls and what the post launch roadmap is, but, overall, I like the diversity of characters, both bigger and obscure alike, along with their abilities and playstyles. Hopefully, there aren't obtrusive microtransactions, but that's wishful thinking. Will be keeping an eye on this one.
With how much Bloodborne's popularity and intrigue has increased over the years, not to mention Elden Ring's massive success, a remake with a simultaneous PS5/PC release would do big numbers. There's no way Sony doesn't have something in the works. I'd definitely be there day one, especially in having spent such little time with the original game.
It's crazy times we're living in as PS gamers. I'm sure Xbox hardcore will have a very calm and reasonable response, especially on Twitter. This is such a seismic shift in strategy that it'll be fascinating to see how far this extends into Xbox's back catalogue and how they'll handle future releases on other platforms moving forward. This very much feels like just the beginning, that much is certain.
@AdamNovice Increasingly huge character rosters with each entry, incredible callbacks/attention to detail with cinematic super attacks along with local multiplayer matches that made for endless hours of fun.
MGS: Master Collection Vol. 1 truly puts into perspective how bad of a value and lazy this $50 RDR1 port is. The entire collection retails for $60 and gives you seven games along with digital soundtracks, artbooks, comics and strategy guides. Sucks to see Rockstar giving its legacy games shoddy treatment yet again.
The folks over at Insomniac Games are absolute machines. Whatever they're putting in their coffee, I want some of that. Would not surprise me if they're working on something new with their release cadence, especially with how amazingly they've carried PlayStation the last couple years.
