@sketchturner that's the bit of detail I'd like to know. I don't care how he spends his money but don't understand the need to share videos, doesn't fit with the rest of his spiel
Can you use ps now on ps4 without ps+ as I only pay out of habit, rarely if ever play online mp and haven't been overly impressed with free games since well, forever. Only benefit is the additional discount on store sales makes the odd one competitive.
@BAMozzy I'm not sure it's being retro or nostalgic, more like authentic or true to the original. There is a market for new, traditional 2d platformers, (especially if they borrow metroidvania style, although that's more me) that don't adhere to the latest graphical capabilities. Gameplay is king, sometimes unfortunately it's overlooked.
@SKC_Diamond I fear the developer and publisher have only themselves to blame for the high expectations of this game. Just like numerous games, films and even albums before it, the finished product is going to be tainted and we'll be disappointed even if it is a 10/10
Still got Witcher 3 dlc to play, fallout 4 to finish(if I stick with a character and don't get creators remorse), Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 to get average at (never mind good) so I'm happy to wait off for a price cut. If Square Enix had pulled a similar stunt with Deus Ex, I'd have also held off on the purchase but they haven't so I won't.
Yes it's only a game and yes, exclusivity deals aren't good for any console but the only way to really show publishers, developers and manufacturers that we're not amused is too hit them where it hurts and that's why I'll wait a few more months, maybe January 2017.
@BAMozzy I'd always thought Assassin's Creed also alternated between different main programming teams? Was a big fan of their games but unfortunately they took out the bits I enjoyed the most, puzzles & tombs, upgrades that added a slight metroidvania aspect and added too many gimmicks, the social challenges & outfits galore for example. I found the missions difficult to follow and gave up on syndicate if I'm honest. They threw kitchen sink at that game and it was all a bit overwhelming! Bring back the pirate ship I say.
@professorhat Both use same bandwidth, probably housed in same server rooms. Films are also cheaper digitally, hd versions also pretty large in download size. I'm not picking fault with you personally, just can't see why we accept this with game downloads on PlayStation and Xbox, but not PC, music or video downloads?
@SegaBlueSky You're comparing two different markets, both in terms of size and business method. The neo geo games were the cost of a hand held console in today's world but let's not give them any ideas!
The number of times I've had my card details and password ready to take Sony up on these "reduced" prices and then taken one look at the offer and refused to buy purely due to the paltry amount that is discounted.
@Gamer83 Whose E3 presentation should Square Enix have shown what game? Whilst I wasn't impressed with the timed exclusivity deal for Lara's latest gruesome deaths, if it meant the game got funded then so be it.
Always surprises me how many titles are released with little to no announcement or preview. Yes, it would be unrealistic for smaller developers & studios to spend a great deal on advertising campaigns but a few press releases or interviews could really improve the games chances and prevent it going unnoticed.
Haven't noticed any mention of the sudden introduction of immediate payment for pre-orders on the UK PS Store. Has this happened on mainland Europe as I believe it contravenes EU law whilst on the US store it's been common place for a while? Is this a result of referendum outcome? I'd initially assumed it was solely for pre-orders that include content that can be downloaded ahead of release but nearly all new additions have this new caveat.
@NintendoFan4Lyf I've tried to convince myself to buy a Wii u on numerous occasions, Nintendo have been my "team" since the 90's but money is always the stumbling block unfortunately and they don't seem to lose their value, presumably because the first party games are so good. Went with PS4 this generation (already persuading sensible me that a Neo is more important than food) but still miss the big N magic!
@Feena I've got both demos and thought both had their moments frame rate wise, so don't need to watch a video of the E3 Xbox demo thanks. I'm under no illusion that other games have and still have problems in this area, I can't bear to watch just cause 3 never mind play it some times, but gameplay compensates. The time I've had with FF demos hasn't put my mind at rest and will wait for reviews.
I've got a 1TB hard drive that was recommended performance wise, maybe I've just been unlucky?
@Feena I think you meant to say "almost never fixed" and nothing gameplay wise comes close to matching Witcher 3 thus far. As for Zelda, I'm just gutted it's Nintendo only, could be amazing, concentrating on new (to Zelda) gameplay and systems. Almost close to buying the console for that one game!
@Neolit yeah, I couldn't understand that one either at the time and was surprised how little fight Microsoft put up, was expecting a battle of the corporations. If your product is going to be on the same shelf, as it were, I get the need for protecting your trademark / copyright but both these disputes had tenuous links at best. Makes me wonder how the food packaging in lidl gets away with borrowing other brands designs with no arguments.
@Galvatron Agree that some text and even the mini map were pretty tricky to make out on my tv, 44in, but recent patches appear to have made some improvements. Might be worth taking another look assuming you haven't played in a while, or sit closer!
@charlesnarles Played the Doom demo and thought my PS4 was going to either take off or explode, the amount of noise coming from it. Similarly during Witcher 3 and occasionally Bloodborne but never on Netflix, unless you meant using remote play to use the Netflix app?
@Kage_88 I think Nintendo need to start building interest in the NX after disappointing sales of Wii U, whereas Sony don't need to dilute the PS4 brand or confuse potential buyers until they have to.
Sony hold most of the cards this generation, Nintendo just have their character cards left!
@Kamikaze_Krunch Drive Club is certainly a great example of the impact a disastrous launch can have on a games success and the closing of the company is the ultimate price, though I also think the poor handling of the PS Plus version had a small impact also.
So in terms of numbers sold you're probably right but if profits don't take a major hit the practice of patching unfinished or broken games post release will continue. I don't think Battlefield 4 had a good start but that franchise continues.
In short, I feel it's only fair for review scores to reflect the issues the reviewer experienced and a revised score if and when the game is fixed seems sensible.
@carlos82 Bought Bloodborne in the sale and absolutely loving it, even though my actual progress is tortuously slow. One of the only times buying a game as a download has had the positive effect of not being able to give up and trade in as soon as I realise I'm not good immediately! May approach DS3 the same way.
@Kamikaze_Krunch The fact that the practice of releasing half baked games and then patching then post release continues to happen would suggest it doesn't impact sales as much as you'd think.
@get2sammyb Please don't think I was criticising the review, well written as always (creep), more the concept of 10/10 games. I end up comparing A with B when that's not how it works, my addled mind!
Didn't read as a 10/10 but then that's why I don't agree with scores! Sounds like a good, fun game of its type but I'm not sure I'm willing to pay 40£ and will patiently wait for price to drop.
@aric201812 If you manually search for it or click on title from PlayStation blog it does appear as free (Switch Galaxy that is), but I was also a tad baffled by that Open Me and the fact it was 4.99! But then the PS Store is always a bit eccentric
I wonder what impact this will have on initial sales of the PS5, whenever that may / does happen? Will people be so quick to buy "day 1" or hang back a year or so and see what new, improved version may appear. The knowledge that your console purchase "future proofed" your gaming needs for 5+ years is a key factor for me and would make me think twice in the future.
Good review, not sure to wait and see if the season pass goes on sale. Are there any plans to improve the games performance that you're aware of? Frame rate is still patchy on my PS4 and loading times are ridiculous!
Having been both alive and playing games in the 80's onwards, I'm not totally sure Broforce would have been anymore than a title in the Mastertronic 199 or 299 range!
@hi_drnick They were probably meant to keep the information to themselves and so the refund has been rescinded! Not keen on multi-player games being included in IGC as it is little interest to us single player gamers.
Tried all three on PS4 and only Galak Z has survived an initial play. BroForce seemed pointless and didn't like controls (maybe better suited to a keyboard, I don't know) and Flame Over was just awful at everything. Possibly the worst month of PS+ in a long while.
@Boerewors Core gamers hated the Wii? How do you figure that? It was home to some excellent games, admittedly the majority first party, but it can hardly be blamed for the influx and increase in pricing for DLC and season passes. Many indie developed games are starting to increase in price, and I think that were it not for the DLC market, most AAA titles would be £60 or more. The additional content model is effectively subsidising the current £40 pricing point.
Hats off to Sony, no longer displaying pricing in their Store Update posts is an inspired way of avoiding the outcry over differences between currencies.
If your electric goes out for a day, yes you get compensated (spoilt food in freezer). Should Sony feel obligated? Probably not, but it makes sense from a customer service point of view and isn't going to cost a packet to give all subscribers an extra day for this outage.
Seems odd that it's often Western game developers that get accused of lacking originality or retreading the same tired ground whilst lists like this get such a positive reaction.
I'm sure I'll buy a couple of the games mentioned but style & genre wise it's hardly inspiring!

Re: Hello Games Settles No Man's Sky Legal Dispute with Sky
@Neolit but another lawyer could surely counter by saying that there's a distinction between a space flight exploration game with infinite content and a broadcasting empire with a few new shows and endless adverts.
I had a call from sky ®© this morning asking why I'd decided to not renew my subscription, wish I'd thought of this as a reason like a previous commenter suggested....
