Re: Soapbox: Sony Has Become Far Too Quiet

Morrowbie

Maybe it's thrown into sharper relief at the moment as Xbox and Nintendo have more to shout about with fresher hardware? PS fans are kinda just waiting for this year's heavy hitters to arrive. Nothing doing in the meantime.

Re: Review: What Remains of Edith Finch (PS4)

@Ralizah Unfinished Swan, it is definitely an actual game; a first-person adventure game with some light puzzle-solving. And, in a way, shooting. The first area is more artsy than the rest of the game and it would get tiresome if the whole game were like that (you'll see what I mean if you play it) but it becomes quite different as the game progresses. It is beautiful throughout. It's short and well worth a play-through. Simple but well-told story.

Re: Sony Set to Close Guerrilla Cambrige Studio

@get2sammyb well, in theory, all Brexit has done so far is weaken the pound which makes labour in the UK cheaper if you're otherwise trading in Euros. If this is anything to do with Brexit it would have to be long-term fears about having a few teams based outside the EU when the rest are inside somehow making things difficult.

Re: Wii U Exclusive LEGO City Undercover Earns Its Badge on PS4

Just wanted to say that I visit this site as it has a 'personality' reminiscent of the great UK video games magazines of my youth (now all sadly long gone). I think Sammy and the team do a great job of adding a few playful jibes without going too far.

On topic: this looks much more fun than the usual LEGO offerings. Need more family games for my oldest son who is starting to take an interest in games!

Re: Sony Is Making 1080p a Requirement for Neo Mode Games on PS4K

Morrowbie

I don't think many games will go for an FPS bump. Clearly this box is being released just so PS4 games can look better on 4K TVs. Also if it has an Ultra HD bluray drive it will help Sony get that tech into homes in the same way the PS3 did last gen. I think this is purely a resolution thing.

Re: 23 PS3 Classics Stream to UK PlayStation Now Service

Morrowbie

@dryrain I once said the same about Netflix. But streaming games could become as popular one day as streaming films is now. In the near future it could happen with brand new games: people could stream, say, The Last of Us 3 to their BluRay player and never actually have to own a console. It's partly an escape route for Sony if consoles stop selling and the tech is cool.

Re: 23 PS3 Classics Stream to UK PlayStation Now Service

Used the free trial and accidentally paid for a second month. But gave me enough time to play through PS3 games I missed (Killzone 2, Resistance 3, Uncharted 1, a couple more I wasn't bothered to finish). Decent value with that free month included and was fun seeing them on the Vita screen. Upgrading to PS4 soon so didn't want or need physical or download copies. The tech works well on my internet, was impressed.

Re: Fallout 4 Looks and Plays Fantastic on the Vita

Morrowbie

I cannot wait to get a PS4 so I can play the games on my Vita... That thing can essentially play some PS1 games (download) some PS2 games (remasters) some PS3 games (PS Now) some PSP games (download) and PS4 games (remote play). Oh and PS Vita games too. Great part of the PS ecosystem and deserves more love.

Re: Square Enix Is Backing the PS4 with More Unannounced Titles Coming This Year

Morrowbie

@TVRFLY I agree that is what seems to have happened this gen. Everyone started off backing the wrong horse (see Titanfall). I know Insomniac wanted to keep the Sunset Overdrive IP and went with MS who allowed that but the game would have sold much better on PS4; all very well keeping an IP that actually isn't worth very much in terms of revenue. There has been a definite change in attitude from devs and publishers.

Re: Rumour: Sony Bend Was Working on an inFAMOUS Title for Vita, But It Got Zapped

Morrowbie

This is worrying news in the sense that it seems Sony had no idea what to do with one of its first-party studios and essentially had them stuck in limbo between Golden Abyss and this PS4 project that is only now properly getting started. Worrying because the reason we might not have seen much from other studios might be Sony being similarly indecisive. Get some games out!

Re: Feature: Did PlayStation Plus Represent Value for Money in 2014?

Morrowbie

Obviously it still hasn't actually happened yet, but the PS+ version of Driveclub could be a good model for other freebies going forward - a portion of a AAA game for free with an 'upgrade' fee that allows you to keep the full game forever. It obviously wouldn't work for all games but some could give away the online, single-player or co-op component say - as long as it felt like you were getting a 'full' if shorter experience. Be interesting to see how that DC plus version works.

Re: Sony: PS Vita's Remarkably Resilient, and Won't Fade Away

Morrowbie

@Heavyman99 it's after reading comments on sites like this that I decided to get one. I can understand now why Vita owners are so vocal about how great it is - and also why they are so disappointed in the support from Sony (who, conversely, injected PS3 when it was flagging with huge numbers of first-party titles).

On the flip-side, though, Vita got a lot of that early on - Killzone, Uncharted, LBP, etc - before it died down. Now, that reminds me of previous Nintendo consoles I have owned where you get one title from each big franchise then... nothing.

TBH a couple of good 'reworked' games - for instance an improved version of the first Infamous, in light of the IP's new found success on PS4 - might shift a few Vitas and wouldn't take a lot of work for a smaller first party studio.
