Re: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot - Gaming's Best Adaptation of the Dragon Ball Z Story Falls Short in Overall Quality

LegendOfStewart

I initially told myself I wouldn't buy the game because it's just yet another retelling of the story in video game form for what seems like the 30th time. However, even though every reviewer across the board has echoed the sentiments of the game being wildly inconsistent in both quality and presentation, I'm actually more tempted to buy the game now than I was several months ago. That's probably because I honestly expected the game to not even hit a 7/10, plus I haven't played a DBZ game since Budokai 2 on GameCube, so my nostalgic desire for a good DBZ game is a little high. I won't be paying full price for Kakarot, but I'll definitely buy it in a few months after a price drop. Hopefully they can address some of the patchable issues between now and then.

@kiki3400 "Not every game has to be amazing and forge new paths in gameplay and invent a new genre. What's wrong with a game being fun, enjoyable and solid."

Best comment on this entire thread, my friend. At the end of the day, I play games to have fun. I played probably 40-50 games this year and, despite its flaws, the most fun I had all year was playing Days Gone. I don't need developers to constantly reinvent the wheel; I just need a game to be fun, and Days Gone delivered for me.

@LiamCroft You're focusing on the originality aspect of the definition. When I hear the word "uninspired," it immediately connotes the lacking in inspiration (or what I consider lacking "heart") aspect of the definition, and it's pretty clear to anyone who put a solid amount of time into the game that, though the game is flawed, it does not lack inspiration.

"Days Gone is quite an interesting case when you step back and take a look at the bigger picture. The game doesn't do a whole lot to set itself apart from most other open world titles — you could even argue that it's pretty uninspired."

And if you made that argument, I would vehemently argue against that. The game is flawed, but it is anything but uninspired.

Re: Days Gone 2 Could Happen as Sony Bend Wants to Continue Exploring Its World

Days Gone is a very flawed game, no doubt. But I absolutely loved that game. The technical hiccups were by far the biggest issue I had with the game, but they were never enough for me to want to stop playing. I'd love to see a sequel that cleans up the technical issues, does a better job of pacing the story, and continuing to build the mythos of the world. I'm in.

When you use words like "lackluster," "tedious," and "heartbreaking" to describe your feelings about certain gameplay elements, I find it incredibly odd that the game can still be called a masterpiece. I seem to remember games like Days Gone not being given a fair shake after using even less harsh criticism than those listed above.

Re: Borderlands 3 - Looting and Shooting Is Back and Better Than Ever

I don't understand the common criticism of this game - "It's just more Borderlands" or "They haven't changed anything." It being more of the same is EXACTLY why I preordered it the minute it became available. No need to fix what isn't broken. They tried changing it up a little with the pre-sequel (a game which I really liked at the time), but it wasn't received nearly as well as the first two games, so they went back to what worked.

I wonder if it'll fix some frame rate issues I've experienced. Playing on the launch version of the PS4, every time I enter any town, the frame rate really dips. It's never bothered me or broke my immersion, but I was surprised to see it in a Rockstar game, and it's definitely something I notice every time it's occurred during my 80+ hours with the game. That said, this game is incredible. I 100%-ed the original; I don't know if I'll 100% this one, but I'm at 90.4% and I absolutely do not wanna play another game right now.

Re: Hands On: Fallout 76 PS4 Beta Has Us Worried for the Full Game

I love Fallout, but when they said multiplayer in the original reveal, I was out. Then when I saw the initial gameplay footage coming out, I couldn't believe how dated everything looked. The game seriously looks like a late-gen PS3/Xbox 360 game. Then all the framerate issues made Fallout 4 look like a technical marvel in comparison. At the end of the day though, graphical fidelity is less important to me than overall gameplay. The VATS changes and lack of NPCs totally kills it for me. I really hope I wind up being wrong though.
