@nessisonett It's gonna be hard to sell a new console if you can only show the 4 games coming out on launch day that and I'm sure the ongoing pandemic has made things ever harder, some date could have been met if that whole covid died down but it seems to be going even stronger, some studios were probably back in office when they were sent back home again. And after that there's a lot of unknown when working on a game, sometimes releasing a trailer early has helped shaped games for the better (and sometimes for the worst). But I understand the sentiment and I hope we'll have less Cyberpunk debacle in the future.
@Kienda Movies don't follow the same process as games and yes they're usually finished for release (The first Hobbit film or Transformers Revenge of the Fallen were famously finished hours before Premiere and then you've got Cats that was released unfinished). But studios still reveal teaser and trailers long before post production is done.Blockbuster films are usually finished weeks before release or maybe a few months. A studio rarely sit on huge blockbuster a year after completion without telling anybody about it.
@LowTech Oh yeah I'm sure the cosmetics and the bugs are not technically linked at all, it's more about the message it sends, they are fine with asking money from player ready to spend it while having a game that was barely finished on launch day. You said it well in the last part of your post.
@LowTech People have been making fun of Ubisoft and their buggy games for years now, PushSquare have made articles about the bugs in Legion or Valhalla when they released, where do you get the impression that everybody is okay with that ? And it's not because this is a problem that anything else is fine. Why is it that Ubisoft has the time to create content created to be bought with real money in a single player video game but they can't spend the time to polish and release their games in a stable state ?
I mean to be honest, CDPR's PR hasn't had the best track record lately either... Only time will tell how they'll fix the game but I don't think I'll be playing it for a long time.
@L3GTRIGA I utterly love TLOU II and I'm having an absolute blast with Ghost of Tsushima right now. It's one of the better recent "Ubisoft-ish" Open World I'd say. The combat is really great, the map is absolutely gorgeous. I'm 2/3 done with it and I'd say that it starts getting a bit repetitive by the mid point because I've pretty much unlocked everything I can and enemy variety is kinda low but the story gets more interesting and I'm still fully invested in seeing it through. I'm enjoying it a lot more than HZD or Days Gone if that can help.
@TechaNinja It's a locked 1800p at 60fps so it is quite alot sharper than the "framerate" mode that is locked at 1080p and they're both running at 60fps so there is no need for the Framerate mode on PS5.
TLOU II was definitely my game of the year, very happy to see Ghost of Tsushima right behind it in most categories as I'll start playing it this week end ! Amazing year for Playstation all around.
@Total_Weirdo Well it really is just like The Lost Legacy was to Uncharted 4. Playing on the same map does not help the feeling of "just an expansion" tho that's very true. I am curious to see how much of a difference we will see between Spider-Man 2 and the first one/MM
@TG16_IS_BAE He's saying that people that EXCLUSIVELY play online at these games and don't play singler player aswell as these title might be in the minority.
Both consoles runs perfectly fine and almost exactly alike 99% of the times on every multiplatform titles, so far. DF has just highlighted the very small percentage of time either one or the other performs worse or better than the competition but by and large they perform exactly like each other.
@nessisonett To be fair I'm guessing that any invention released to the consumers or even other invention made public in 2020 have their roots in the years prior.
@ShogunRok Same, I had to check Spotify and put the volume incomfortably loud to hear anything on the youtube videos. I'm sure it must be easier to hear it IRL tho !
Got mine yesterday, doesn't seem to have any problems, crossing my fingers !
I'm very pleased with the nominees this year ! Last year apart from Sekiro I wasn't that much interested in seeing who would win but man this year's list is great ! I'd pick TLOU II or DOOM Eternal for the big award but Hades looks great and I can't wait to play it, glad to see Supergiant Games being recognized for their talent and I have yet to play Ghost of Tsushima aswell ! what a year !
Just like it is stated in the article, don't forget that we are in the vast minority here to be that engaged in all of this, there are more than 100 millions PS4 in the wild and millions of millions of those consoles are owned by people that don't engage much in the community and maybe don't play as much as well. And on the other hand you have to count for the fact that 1TB of SSD that is as fast as the one of the PS5 cost more than 100 bucks, it just doesn't make sense for Sony to put a 1.5 or 2TB of Storage if it's going to jack up the price of the console by 80 to 170 bucks, I'm fairly sure it was hard enough to fit all of that console under 600bucks.
@deathaxe To be entirely fair, this is the kind of argument used by Sony execs to diminish the necessity of backward compatibility that was so much criticize a year or two ago. And this 1440p problem seems like even less of a hassle to add than backward compatibility, how many millions of people own a 4K TV ? Quite a bit now but I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of people owned a 1080p TV and yet 4K is supported and a resolution target because who's to say how many people will own 4K TV in 4 to 7 years ? Who's to say how many people will own 1440p monitors in 4 to 7 years ?
I have no 1440p monitor but I'm glad people came out to ask for the support, It's quite a common monitor resolution nowadays and it feels dumb to be locked to 1080p because you don't have an expansive 4K monitor especially when 1440p looks so nice.
@SwitchVogel If I understand correctly it's not downscaling 4K to 1440p but rather upscaling 1080p to 1440p which makes for a blurrier image
@Juanalf I'm guessing Guerilla Games started working on it not too long after the first one and they might have hoped for a end of generation release but once they realised they wouldn't make it why not take your time and bring it to PS5 ?
When the Switch Pro Controller can give you up to 40 hours on a single charge, I think it's fair to ask for a bit more without having to buy a charging dock or a second controller. It's far from the end of the world, of course. I've managed fine with my DS4 but I'd love to see it last for 20-30h.
Out of the 21 games shown during their presentation, 9 of them (10 if Hellblade falls in this category) were Next Gen exclusive, 7 of them were timed exclusives. 11 Titles were crossgen and out of these eleven titles, only 3 of them were actually new (The Gunk, Tell me Why and CrossfireX) the other ones were either announced quite a while ago for this current gen or straight up are already out like Outer Wilds, Destiny or Tetris Effects. So...
At this point people are clamoring for a next generation and I'm sure console developpers are more than happy to play with more powerful hardware, you can already feel how some games where the base PS4 was kind of an afterthought.
What a load of crap, "people who are too caught up in device competition" coming from the "The most powerful console ever" brand is kind of ironic. Yes hardware isn't the be all end all of what gaming is about, I think that one of the best game this generation is Breath of the Wild and it runs on the Switch. But it's also great to be able to specifically not be bogged down by the limitation of last gen, especially when you're asking for ~500 bucks
@AdamNovice "But some are right to be upset becasuse ND have a responsibility to the audience that made the first game the success it was and they ultimately failed on that part so they should be called out on it."
I'm sorry but this doesn't make any sense, first of all, ND does not have any responsability to their audience regarding what they do in their games. They should take their audience in consideration, yes, obviously. But at the end of the day they do not have a responsability to us apart from delivering a playable game. It doesn't matter how much you liked the first one, how many times you bought it or replayed it. Naughty Dog doesn't really owe you any particular storyline because you felt a certain way about their games. And the second problem I have with that sentence is that you (and a lot of people who either liked it or not liked it) act like the whole fanbase is disappointed by the story, I'm a huge fan of the first and loved every second of Part 2 and I'm not alone, there is no "fanbase consensus" around Part 2 (or part 1 for that matter because the way you enjoy the second game's story depends heavily on what you took away from the first).
It's fine that you disliked it, really. It's fine that thousands did but I'm tired of seeing people write things like "the fans are disappointed", "the fans demand a story that respect the first game" whatever that means. There is no "the fans" or "the audience" we're all just a bunch of people who liked or dislike the game. You're not less or more of a fan of TLOU if you liked or disliked part 2, tons of us loved it, tons hated it. And I know it's probably not what you meant and I'm sorry if it feels I'm coming down on you, I'm not. I'm just tired of people (on both sides) saying "well the fans are disappointed so ND failed" or "the real fans loved it so grow up".
@AdamNovice I don't want to dismiss your opinion because it's yours and you have every right to have felt like that but I totally disagree about how they've mistreated Joel and Ellie and I loved the first game so much I was ready to name my daughter Ellie if I ever had one. Yes Joel is gone early on but the flashbacks with him are some of the nicest and most heartfelt moment in the game, that whole Ellie birthday sequence is beautiful and man the last one right at the end of the game, it's Joel telling Ellie how much he loves him and Ellie wants to love him like that again. I find that scene so beautiful, to me it feels like the game is an ode to Joel. In a world where violence rules he used it to make an act of love but by doing that it brought so much more pain it's bittersweet and Joel has made some bad baaaaad things but I still feel like the game and the people writing the game still loves him so much. The revenge plot isn't new but I feel like the way they go about it is quite interesting, nothing has to be new, the first one was far from being original aswell. But anyway, I hope you don't take my message as an attack against your opinion, you have every right to feel the way that you do about the game, cheers.
