Summer Game Fest is almost upon us once again, more or less supplanting E3 (RIP) with a big, splashy showcase and a ton of coverage on upcoming games. Geoff Keighley's been rehearsing his sneakers off for the season's biggest video game event, we assume, getting ready to present to us some hot new announcements and updates on some exciting upcoming titles.

Each year, we always try to make guesses and predictions about what we'll see, and we're here once again to ask the question — what's going down at SGF this time? The Push Square team has gathered, and as with last year, we're each making a realistic prediction and a dream prediction — one that may well happen, and one that probably won't happen but wouldn't it be nice.

Prediction: Pretty much the same as last year, I’m holding out hope for a release date for Arc Raiders. With the recent tech test being a huge hit for Embark Studios, it feels right to keep the momentum and hype going. I no longer think we’ll get a shadow drop since ARC Raiders will be a paid game, but I can imagine a release date announcement and an open beta on PS5 too.

Dream: This one really is a pipe dream at this point, but I’d love to see some form of AAA PSVR2 title announced, even better if it’s a first party experience, à la Horizon Call of the Mountain. I don’t even need it to be a fully fleshed out experience, just something vibey and immersive, like Batman Arkham VR but set in the world of The Last of Us or even something more colourful like Ratchet and Clank.

Prediction: Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra tries to convince us it's an actual video game. Now delayed into early 2026, we've seen nothing of this Marvel effort — which brings together Black Panther, Captain America, and two new characters — since its proper name unveiling and story trailer well over a year ago. Summer Game Fest feels like the right kind of event for this game, as I don't think any of the three platform holders are that enthusiastic about it, or interested enough to have it in one of their own livestreams. Therefore, you'll get a new Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra trailer out of Geoff Keighley along with a more solid release window. I'll say March 2026.

Dream: Bloober Team announces its Silent Hill 3 remake. I think it's a bit too early for this reveal, but Konami has demonstrated it's happy to confirm Silent Hill projects years in advance, so who knows. Bloober Team is almost certainly working on a remake of Silent Hill 3, so I'm very confident this prediction will come true eventually. However, it would be nice to see it as soon as Summer Game Fest. Alongside it, there'll also be a trailer announcing Silent Hill 2 DLC, which covers the Maria-focused expansion Born from a Wish. Geoff Keighley's summer showcase generally isn't that big, which is why I consider these kinds of announcements "dreams" rather than something that'll realistically happen.

Prediction: RGG Studio will have something big to show. I'm not quite sure if this boils down to another look at Project Century — the new property that was revealed at The Game Awards last year — or the announcement of a brand new Like a Dragon game, but I think the developer will be present during Geoff's event. If you want something a bit more specific, I'm going to bet on the long-rumoured Yakuza 3 remake being revealed, complete with a release date for later this year.

Dream: Persona 6 is finally announced. Nah, but seriously, it's about damn time that we caught a glimpse of the next mainline Persona game. I don't think it'll happen because we're almost certainly getting the seemingly inevitable Persona 4 remake before anything else is confirmed — but that's what dreams are for, innit.

Prediction: I more or less said the exact same thing last year, but it does feel like it’s finally time for Starfield to make its PS5 debut. Microsoft has been porting practically every other game under its umbrella to Sony’s system, and so I expect Bethesda’s space opera will be next – presumably alongside some kind of major expansion pack. I suppose it’s possible this could be saved until the Xbox Games Showcase later in the week, but with so many studios under the Redmond firm’s umbrella, I suspect it may see fit to launch an opening salvo at Summer Games Fest first.

Dream: Geoff Keighley loves a good gacha game, because these are the titles covering the costs so the host can suck up to Hideo Kojima live on stage. On that note, then, I’d love to see HoYoverse’s new Pokémon-inspired Honkai Nexus Anima game fully revealed. This was teased earlier in the year, but we still don’t know a whole lot about it – is this really a creature battling adventure, and can it finally make good on the untapped potential Game Freak’s bulging bank balance seems utterly unwilling to explore?

Prediction: Here's something I don't see a lot of chatter about: the next Ace Combat game. We know it's in development and has been for several years; now seems like as good a time as any to lift the lid on what's cooking. After Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown broke records for the series, I'm excited to learn what the next title looks like. Development is being handled by both Project ACES and ILCA this time, so here's hoping the partnership results in another top notch entry in the arcadey flight action series.

Dream: The truth is that my dream announcement is the same as it was last year — a brilliant Burnout revival — but in the interest of keeping things fresh, I'll go for something different. How about a look at Media Molecule's new game? I realise it's probably a little early for that, but MM is one of my all-time favourite studios and I cannot wait to see what it's working on. I expect it'll be playing things a lot safer after Dreams kinda flopped. What excites me is that its new game could be almost anything; the team has a background in platformers but with Astro Bot filling that gap, I wonder whether it'll explore different territory? I'm so curious to know what it's making.
