I have a close family member who has a gambling addiction. He has finally admitted it and is seeking help much to my relief. He says that it all started with CSGo skins.
Anyone who doesn't understand why this stuff needs to be regulated hasn't seen anyone struggling with a gambling addiction. Just like any addiction it is a compulsive need that must be fulfilled. It's not as simple as 'just don't spend your money on it'. These business practices are normalizing these feelings for kids/ vulnerable adults.
As a society we are miles behind where we need to be in recognizing and helping people with a gambling addiction. It's isn't seen in the same light as alcohol or tobacco addiction but can be just as harmful to people's health.
And the live service model takes another victim. I understand that it only takes one hit for companies to start making infinite money but as the market gets bigger there is less space for anyone new in it. Companies must be haemorrhaging money on these failed attempts.
It's a real shame as well because this is a decent game. It was just monetized horribly. I give it 2 months before they start talking about turning off the servers.
@SolaceCreed Is that why they split ties with them? That has to be commended if so. I thought it was because FIFA was demanding double this year for license naming rights. Could be both I guess...
@MindfulGamer I played the first two and they are fine for what they are. They are short and basic in both gameplay and story. You get what you pay for.
@nessisonett I think it's the same few handful of people that have nothing better to do with their lives than spout useless sh*te on the internet. Whenever I see a comment like that it's always from a new account with one or two comments. Makes me feel a bit sorry for them really.
@KidBoruto Yeah, I think you are right. Would be interesting to see how they do it.
I think they may release it in one part rather than the episodic way they have done FF7. There isn't really any large areas (like Midgar) that could be expanded into a full game in its own right. You move from one place to another quite swiftly.
@MindfulGamer SRPGs are my favourite genre but I totally appreciate your opinion. They can be a bit dense. You mentioned you liked Vandal Hearts Flames of Judgement. Have you played the first two Vandal Hearts on PS1? They are really good, streamlined and hold up really well.
The episode was pretty good. I like the series so far. It's not the best thing since sliced bread but they've done a good job. would get a 7/10 thus far from me.
Zoom hacks sound like something that isn't a big deal but it really gives an advantage in this game. The way the fights flow having a birdseye view of the whole arena makes a huge difference.
@ShogunRok I am such a person. Played 5 and now I'm 10 hours into 4.
I really like it so far. It's a little rougher around the edges and does feel like a step back in some ways, but the general blueprint is still there.
One part that really does feel quite a bit less fleshed out is the dungeons. I've only done the first but it feels way more generic than 5's carefully curated levels. Also, maybe it opens up more going forward but it feels slightly more restrictive in how many interesting places you can visit in comparison to 5. Still early days though.
Great game. Playing it on Switch since handheld is a great way to play these games. Definitely going to finish it.
I actually think this comment section has been quite civil compared to those at the time of release. It's more of a debate on the validity of remakes/ remasters on Game of the Year lists. Seems like a fair enough point of debate regardless of which way you side.
Personally, I think the remake wasn't really needed but was welcome all the same. The amount of effort involved should make it eligible for these lists and Push Square's placement seems solid. I haven't played it yet but will when the price is right (around £30).
I've been playing it in performance mode and it looks and runs beautifully. The storytelling and writing are best in class. The combat is serviceable but showing it's age.
@AdamNovice Because it's very difficult to actually think of any that have been any good. As a big Monster Hunter fan that garbage they produced last year is best forgotten.
This could turn out to be great. I hope it does, but history is very much stacked against it. The cynicism is warranted.
@Tigerhoodman You should turn the question marks off. They add very little value and clutter up the map. You'll miss nothing by not doing them. It's just a chest here and there with inconsequential loot (which you have usually outleveled).
That'll be me watching the trailers on YouTube the next day then. Don't have the time to waste on watching something that long with such little substance.
@theMEGAniggle I see what you are saying but the adoption rate for VR is still really low due to the huge barrier of entry (in both a monetary sense and a practical one). They can push it as much as they like but it's still too early.
Once VR/ AR becomes more affordable and is as easy as putting on a pair of specs the 'Metaverse' (god I despise that term) marketing will be in full swing.
@theMEGAniggle Eh. It's still too early. If it doesn't take off then they will drop it like a stone. How many companies are talking about NFTs these days 🤔
Pretty pants lineup. Not interested in paying a sub to access games that have been available for years. Once I finish Ghost of Tsushima (which is excellent) I'm gonna let my sub run out.
@KundaliniRising333 Par for the course these days unfortunately. Capcom seems to have figured out that a sure fire way to make lots of money is to make games that people actually want.
The amount of companies that just follow trends and hope something sticks is verging on incompetence. From MMOs to MOBAs to Battle Royales, very few of them actually find success.
The amount of money wasted trying to chase the dragon of the live service infinite money pot must be eye watering.
@TeapotBuddha Why? Graphics have hit a point of diminishing returns. Developers should be prioritising frame rate over fidelity. God of War Ragnarok is going to offer a 60fps mode. Does this game look good enough to have half the frame rate in comparison?
Twitter should not be taken as a means to gauge anything. Its a cesspit filled with people that have nothing better to do with their lives than be on Twitter all the time. Everything skews to the negative.

@KaijuKaiser Maybe you are statistically more likely to read PushSquare if you are 6'3" or over 🤷♂️
Re: Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line (PS4) - Solid Rhythm Game Is a Love Letter to a Legendary Series
Top tip for anyone playing this: Don't use the face buttons at all. Alternate between L1 and R1. Makes hitting those notes close together way easier.
Re: Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line (PS4) - Solid Rhythm Game Is a Love Letter to a Legendary Series
@Judal27 You get used to the double notes and it becomes second nature.
As a fellow lover of XIV's music I can assure you the representation is miles better than the 3DS games.
Re: Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line (PS4) - Solid Rhythm Game Is a Love Letter to a Legendary Series
Button inputs were always the superior way to play, unless you happen to love hand cramps.
Re: Strategy RPG Redemption Reapers Gets Emotive Final Trailer
No SRPGS for 20 years and then fifty of them come at once.
This looks decent although that trailer did very little for me.

Re: Square Enix May Have Just Teased a Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster
@Bdbrady I agree with you somewhat but we really need a way to play it on modern platforms.
I think if it got the Tactics Ogre treatment that would be perfect. A HD touch-up, a few balance tweaks and more VO. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

@belmont Do we dare to dream? A full remake of FF9 would probably be top of my most wanted list.
Re: Hogwarts Legacy (PS5) - A Harry Potter Dream Come True
Aren't you better off just locking comments at this point? It's really sad to see but its just a mess.
Game looks really good. Not willing to drop £70 on any game but once it hits a decent sale I'll pick it up. Glad to see it turned out well.

I really want to buy this but can't justify it before Sunbreak comes out since I already have that on Switch. It improves the game so much.
Re: Elden Ring Dominates God of War Ragnarok in GOTY Awards, Breaks The Last of Us 2's Record
Best game since Balan Wonderworld. Shame it doesn't quite hit those lofty heights.
Re: Game of the Year: Annette's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2022
Never heard or Relayer but it looks really cool. As a SRPG fan it's one to add to the wish list.

@JudgeDredd Happy Birthday! Hope you have a good one.
Still plugging away at The Witcher interspersed with Monster Hunter Rise. May start Tactics Ogre.
Re: Game of the Year: #4 - Trails from Zero
Awesome pick. Haven't played this yet but enjoyed the Sky trilogy. Will be picking this up on Switch at some point.

I'd give it a 9/10.
Re: Game of the Year: Stephen's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2022
Haven't got around to the big hitters yet so my list would be:
1. Pentiment
2. Tinykin
3. Ghost of Tsushima
4. Tunic
5. Citizen Sleeper

Shows how little creativity is left in Hollywood these days when they keep having to poach video game IPs.

@Gamer_Guy Cult of the Lamb isn't on Game pass. Hopefully it will be someday. Two point Campus is though, and it is great.

@AndyKazama Nintendo Directs are short and snappy enough, but other than that, I agree. It's a shame. I used to love E3 week.

Who needs surprises? Between this and FFXVI I'd imagine that's two of their big hitters spoiled. Must be infuriating for devs/ event organisers
