And that marks the end of 2022, folks – well, almost! Obviously there’s still a few hours to go, which means more time to make an attempt at downscaling that bulging backlog. There’s been so many games this year that it’s hard to know where to start, but reality check: 2023 is going to be even bigger. Time to wrestle back control of your playlist before it’s too late.

Spoilers for my unpublished personal picks, but Horizon Forbidden West is one of my favourite games of the year, so I really should spare a moment to wrap up the Platinum Trophy. Between that and games like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle R, I've got plenty to keep me occupied through the New Year celebrations and beyond. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in.

I'm still playing through The Witcher 3 on PS5, but I'll be adding a bit of variation to the schedule by challenging friends at Guilty Gear Strive. Nothing like a sweaty fighting game session to round off the year.

I have been really enjoying my retro-tinged Christmas break, but I've also been wrapped up with Pokémon Scarlet. Despite its shortcomings, I'm having fun poking around a fresh region and finding new weirdos for my team.

The quest to shorten my backlog continues into the new year. A few of the shorter games from last weekend have been clocked, so now I'm introducing Valkyrie Elysium and Sonic Frontiers. Wish me luck with the latter.

There is a lot going on and not much of it makes sense to me, but I'm pushing on with my Death Stranding playthrough this week! The story may not be clicking with me properly yet, but I've never been so engrossed in the mechanics of traversing this harsh landscape. Who knew crossing a river could be so captivating? Oh, and Happy New Year!

One of my New Year resolutions is to start finishing my backlog. However, I got inspired by Jamie's Game of the Year retro list that I'll postpone such resolution a little further to play the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series.

Happy New Year to all the Push Square readers out there! I’m going to be bringing in the new year by playing some easy-to-pick-up classics, like Tekken 7 and Sonic Origins. And, if time allows, I’d love to continue on my Tunic journey!

Well, now I've got The Callisto Protocol done and dusted, I don't even know what I want to start next. The Quarry, maybe? I picked that up around Black Friday, and never even started it. Yeah, you know what, I'll be playing The Quarry. No better way to bring in the New Year!

My very most bodacious Christmas gift this year was the terrific Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, so I'll be comparing the arcade to the SNES version of Turtles in Time, and relishing the Mega Drive's The Hyperstone Heist, long after the New Year's fireworks fizzle out.

I'm seeing in the New Year by navigating the social dynamics of meta humans in Marvel's Midnight Suns.

I'm going to end the year hanging about with the Midnight Suns. Maybe I'll use the extra days off to take a look at some of the games I missed from this year, like Prodeus.

With the New Year drawing near I’m sure you are all asking yourselves, “Did I complete those 20 games I promised myself I would this year?” Well today is your last day to hit that goal; so I will be ending the year by squeezing in The Pedestrian, a pleasant four hour indie game that’ll leave me with plenty of time for a drink.
