Pixel Ripped 1978 is conceptually so awesome because it’s marrying contemporary technology like PSVR2 with retro nostalgia. The game, for those who missed the announcement, sees you assume the role of an Atari employee in the late 70s, where you’re tasked with working on some of the iconic publisher’s hits – and immersing yourself in the games themselves.

If you haven’t played a Pixel Ripped game before, they’re incredibly clever. In the first instalment on PSVR, for example, you’re tasked with playing a simple sidescroller on a Game Boy in school, and you have to avoid detection by your teacher. The association with Atari here stands to elevate the entire experience, as classics like Yars’ Revenge and many more will be officially represented.

There’s no release date beyond a vague “coming soon”, but we’re confident this will be one to keep a close eye on – especially if you’re a fan of old-school 80s arcade gaming. Personally, we love how Atari’s been licensing out its catalogue lately, and this just seems like the perfect place to see its old-school classics represented.
