The trinkets were pointless but getting the odd bit of PSN credit back made it worth it.
As level 4 I also had priority access to customer service. I think that's the real reason they're scrapping the whole thing, they actually had to respond to me and other level 4 customers 'quickly'.
I was just in Taiwan and picked one up for £160 equivalent (6480 TWD), so if you're going there I'd recommend picking one up. However only from official Sony shops, stock is extremely low so the independent shops in Taipei main station and Digital Plaza for example hiking the price to nearly 10,000TWD, saying you can only buy one with a couple of games or accessories, not on its own which is really weird sales practice, but I guess it helps move the old stock (such as Forspoken and Gotham Knights that were pushed on me).
Anyway, get one there if you want one and you are going or know someone who is, that's my advice.
Hysterical that at the moment of the song where the chorus 'Snake Eater' comes up, they've put in a clip of him actually eating a spit-roast snake, just to underline the point.
However without the credits also floating about is loses so much of it's 'Bondness'.
I ended up with a pile of day 1's that I had no time to play that all ended up getting huge game changing patches to massively improve them, usually when the game is starting to reach half price in the shops or digitally.
I learnt that lesson now, never day 1 for me again for big releases.
I think you missed my sarcasm, I wasn't really going to watch someone play a game where they just repeatedly press one button, about as much as I'd play a game where all you do is press one button repeatedly.
The joke being might as well watch someone else press a button repeatedly then do it myself. I don't understand this kind of game, I think fun from gaming comes from making decisions and trying to react in time. If I wanted to mindlessly press a button then I could go play with my Playstation doorbell.
As much as people don't like it, at least Nintendo has the honestly to call the piece of plastic in the box a 'key'.
That's effectively the only difference now between a physical and digital version of a game, the physical requires a physical 'key' to be in place to run, ie the game disc.
Games are released now with patching planned in effectively, so the final version of a game can be very different to the version 1.0 found on the original gold release.
Personally I think that's when publishers should produce the physical edition, at the end of its patching cycle and when the real fans will want to buy it with all the tat that comes with it too (for a reasonable price too).
However instead we are getting huge 'collectors' editions that don't even have a disc or download code included (ghost of yotei).
I would say 'having to buy it' means you're far more invested in the game in the first place and already have an interest.
Whereas the format of Gamepads means more people like to 'dabble' for a bit and tend to move on more quickly unless it's something specific they're interested in.
So in this case 30% of players are PS5 owners who've 'bought' it. You could argue that of the potential 70% potential Gamepass users on PC and Xbox, again 30% equivalent max have bought it, leaving 40% who have dabbled in the game.
Well it's an interesting idea but unfortunately still shows the QA control that goes on at Microsoft. For those that know, it's a pretty interesting demo, for those that don't it's pretty unimpressive really.
@0niguy Well I'm hoping it'll be more then just a 'PS5 Pro - Pro' (or PS5 Proplus for our caffeine addicted friends) with a new front end and an HDMI2.2 connection, but I have a feeling that essentially that's what it'll be.
Reminds me of the good old days of renting a telly from Rumbelows.
However if I were to go down this route, I think I'd rather pick an agreement where you keep the item at the end of the lease rather then have to give it up.
Head starts no longer matter when people are already heavily invested in the ecosystem of their choice.
One of the troubles with Gamepass is that it denies that personal investment as basically as a subscription all the games accessible on it are disposable to the user.
However anyone who has spent a significant amount of money on PSN digital content, from PS4 and now PS5 eras are most unlikely to jump ship and abandon all those games they have 'purchased' and would no longer be accesible.
Backwards compatibility is now actually cross-gen investment and you can bet that (I believe Mark Cerny has already confirmed) that the PS6 will play all PS5 and PS4 games off the bat.
Xbox has already lost, headstart or not it will find it very hard to reclaim those PS users to it's fold.
And of course, now MS is a third party publisher, what would be the point of PS users going Xbox, unless of course you are rich enough to buy both.
"For example, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a game published and fully funded by PlayStation, but it doesn’t own the IP, so it sits somewhere between first-party and second-party really."
So it's a first-and-a-half party game...obviously!!!
