Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater’s iconic James Bond-style intro has gotten a glow-up as part of upcoming PS5 remake Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and singer Cynthia Harrell has returned to absolutely belt out the release’s theme song in an all-new recording.
The visuals maintain the same style as the original, with the snake motifs and various clips from the game.
We’ve embedded a comparison with the PS2 version below:
The only thing missing from this new edition are the staff credits, although this has been labelled a “clean version” and Konami does say the names and interactive aspects from the PS2 release will feature in the full in-game version.

For those who don’t know, an Easter egg in the 2004 title allowed you to change the language of the intro and manually control icons on the screen using the left and right analogue sticks. It sounds like the publisher has retained that element for the remake, which helps underline just how authentic this re-release is aiming to be.
What are your thoughts on this remade intro? Has developer Virtuous done a good job? And what do you think of the re-recorded theme song? Let us know below.
Which version of the Snake Eater intro do you prefer? (258 votes)
- The original PS2 version is the best
- This new PS5 version is better
- I don't really know or care

So they have removed the names of ALL the original devs, not just Kojima, from the opening credits. I wonder if they will credit them at all. Would be pretty dirty not to.
Well how totally awesome is that!
Hysterical that at the moment of the song where the chorus 'Snake Eater' comes up, they've put in a clip of him actually eating a spit-roast snake, just to underline the point.
However without the credits also floating about is loses so much of it's 'Bondness'.
@themightyant Article says it's a "Clean version"
@Nepp67 Fair! I'm guilty of not reading it on this occasion before heading to the comments. Thanks for the correction. I still wonder if it will say a Hideo Kojima game (multiple times). I look forward to seeing the un-clean version.
@themightyant Iirc they did say that they want to work with Kojima again so it'd surprise me if they didnt.
The level of auto tune is quite something. I get 20 years is a long time and voices change but she’s approaching T-Pain there.
I cannot wait for this remake! I would like for Kojima and Konami to kiss and make up so they can burn everything to do with Metal Gear Survive and maybe give Phantom Pain an actual ending.
@Oram77 If the continuous retcons of MGS4 and 5 have taught me anything, it is that this series is best left without Kojima in it as his ideas were starting to get nonsensical. The whole cast of MGS3 is now evil and there is a guy just off camera in every scene cleaning up after Snake. What next?
I would rather a reboot with fresh blood tbh.
@Nepp67 I doubt he does though. He is making bank off on his own.
PS2 version still looks great and also the best one.
@Oram77 There's nothing to make up with Konami. They're the one who ended the relationship and kicked out Kojima from the company. Since then Kojima own his own company and are doing well. Heck, he will eventually get his own MGS with PHYSINT.
@LifeGirl Metal Gear always "nonsensical" since the very 1st game. But good luck wishing a Metal Gear reboot with fresh blood when the current Konami doesn't have any genius talent in the same level of Kojima, IGA, Toriyama, Murayama etc. It's the reason why Konami can only do port, remaster, and remake their old games. Heck, they can't even do that internally lol.
I hope they let you watch it with the original recording.
Delta video with original version of the song.
CRIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
The 8-Bit Big Band did an excellent cover of "Snake Eater".

@LifeGirl Oh yeah for sure, that was a terrible long time where he wanted to do his own thing and Konami kept screwing him over at every turn.
