I think ray tracing hasn’t helped in this generation. Devs (actually probably more Marketing) will always want to make a game as stunning as possible. They seem to have cracked it with Stellar Blade though
It depends on the game, and it’s not just frame rate. It’s frame pacing and consistency too. I notice it mostly when turning in a game, not moving straight forward, it it’s low, I end up with eye strain and a headache (Gravity Rush 2), if it’s good (GT7 for the most part), I’m fine. Definitely seems to effect some people more than others
Had a hankering to play FFX for a while so playing that. I’ve got a physical copy of FFXVI coming today (£30 which was a good deal). Have a great weekend folks!
Got to the first area after the beach. I’m planning on finishing it today. It’s very nice looking, but I’m not 100% sure it’s for me yet. I said that about LotF though and ended up loving that game
Be nice if LFC was implemented into the Pro. This does make me think the RE engine might not have been the best choice, but I guess it’s Capcom and it’s cheaper to use the RE engine. Just guessing.
Edit: Yikes, just read RE9 is going open world using this engine! Let’s hope they polish it a bit!
I can’t moan because I’ve put in over 500 hours and not touched online, but it can be a pain if your internet goes out (arcade races only). Just wished there was more progression like in GT3. The weekly races are fun though
@Jamesblob, that’s a problem with the Playstation store. Such a pain to scroll through, I tend to only look at my wishlist now (31 entries for Snowrunner!)
Just got FFXVI for £29.99 at Amazon, I was on the fence about it, but that’s “roll the dice” money. I’ll get around to it once I’ve finished FFX HD remaster (which I still love). Can’t wait for its episodic remake, the final episode will, no doubt be out by 2040😂
Almost forgot, I’m also going to play some Serious Sam collection. 24th anniversary a couple of days ago since the first on was released. I still remember playing the tech demo a verrrry long time ago
I think I’m going to platinum Pacific Drive before I play anything. Just love it, even resource runs are fun. Weirdly it reminds me of Returnal. Have a good weekend folks, and good luck with the exam @zuljaras!
If it’s not running well on a 4090, a Pro won’t solve the frame rate issues, but optimisation might. I ended up being fine with Jedi Survivor after a month or so. So fingers cross for this. I loved the original, it had just the right amount of jankiness and weirdness. Reminded me a bit of the Gothic series
@Blacksmith1985 , it’s still supposed to be out in 2024, but there’s no firm release date yet. I was a bit worried after the Blooper Team/Konami conversations that came out recently (lack updates, trailer reception). I hope it comes out and is as good as the Dead Space remake, we can only hope
Finished RE4 and Separate Ways (very different, but still good, to what I remember). I’m 50 hours in on Pacific Drive and loving it. The sound design is fantastic, lightning, raindrops on the roof, the way the dialog sounds inside the car. I want to get back to LotF but it will have to wait a bit.
Loved 2k23 (and 2k21), I’ll have to give pga a shot now. When are they going to remake Microprose Golf and Links LS!
Seriously, Jedi Survivor is also excellent, don’t let the performance discussion put you off, it’s totally worth it at full price (even better than the first one)
Finished RE4 Remake and Separate Ways last weekend, love them! Even if they paid me, I wouldn’t play a remake of 5 or 6 no matter what they did to them. Bleh!
Finished Prince of Persia last week, cheesing RE4 with an infinite ammo rocket launcher (can’t believe it was released a year ago). I really want to try Ultros and Pacific Drive, but I also want to finish LotF and replay Dead Space. Nice problem to have! So many awesome games (I’ll get around to Rebirth at some point). Have a great weekend folks!
You can’t compare Y2K to February 29th😂. Y2K was dates store using 2 digit years, so 00 to save memory/storage in olden times) and code not knowing if the date was 1900 or 2000 (so a lot of potential date calculation issues). Pretty much every coder spent the previous 5 or so years (at least) looking out and fixing those issues (which is why it was just a media flap in general).
February 29th comes round every 4 years! That’s just bad coding! Sorry, grampa rant over
Sounds like the same kind of issues Jedi Survivor had (also Unreal engine 4), hopefully they’ll switch over to 5 for the next one. LOTF looks amazing. Like Survivor, if the core game is good, I’m not that bothered, and they’ll probably polish it up in the next couple of months
Just watched it. Grade A. I love documentaries in general (High Score on Netflix is a stand out). This is really focused on Death Stranding, obviously because DS2 is so close, but it’s beautifully made. I had to pause midway and listen to Patience by Low Roar. Scared, lonely kid has amazing imagination. Totally worth watching. Loved it. Homo Ludens ftw!
@AhmadSumadi ha! We’re cut from the same cloth Brother! I really want to play FF Rebirth, but I know I’m going to play Dead Space and RE4 remake before. 😂. I need to retire so I can play games 24/7
@AhmadSumadi , I know! When I read it I was pretty disappointed. After playing for 20 hours I thought, yeah, that’s very wrong. Absolutely right about Skyrim, I think the main story can be finished in 1.5 hours, I dread to think how much time I’ve put in 😂. I’ve never wanted to rush through a game (unless it sucks), I love poking into every corner!
I saw this was “16 hours to complete”. Soooo, 70 hours in…. Loving it, I felt so much more empowered by the end of the game, plus excellent accessibility options. I dropped it down to easy for a couple of those nonsense fight (the archer for instance)
OG Minter represent! Still remember the Hover Bovver advert (a guy in a bowler hat mowing the lawn with a push mower), so very English. Keep playing video games kids, keeps those reactions sharp!
There should be a “I really don’t care” option in the poll. You know it’s going to be a live service game. My most played is GT7 with around 600 hours, but it’s not my most meaningful game. It’s like saying what’s at the top of the charts (do they even have music charts), or most watched on Netflix. Just cause something’s popular doesn’t make it good. Old man rant over!😂
I’m pretty much sick of AAA games at this point (I still play them but I’m buying a lot less, BG3 was a definite exception, loved it), I’d rather play a great indie and not watch hours of cut scenes. I’m hoping if anything comes out of all these lay offs it will be some really awesome indie teams/collectives
After a bumpy start with Prince of Persia (bit of a slow start, very talky and some cringy voice acting), the actual game itself is fantastic. Some Celeste level platforming and level design worthy of Symphony of the Night!
Just platinumed Spider-Man after getting the PS5 upgrade for £5, which included all the DLC (surprisingly good, filled in the gap between Spider-Man and Miles Morales).
Back on Prince of Persia until I can face the Spurned Prodigy in LotF (swear I went to school with him or his twin brother, the hair, the physique, the keen sense of intellect in his eyes, everything!)
Loved the original, excellent survival/crafting game, and a Stardew Valley-level timesink. I need to take a look at the second one, but I heard wasn’t quite as good. I’ll certainly keep and eye on this one.

@LionVega I think the Suikoden remasters are coming the same time as the Silent Hill 2 remaster…. And Half Life 3….
Hey, we can still hope, I guess! I am looking forward to this though. I might have to replay Suikoden 2 on the PS2 at this rate
