Its a solid 8 for me. Its not all bells and whistles and full on current gen, but its such a great recreation of the original. I actually dug out the 2001 PS2 version and watched the Making Of dvd (im sure its on youtube, it was really interesting seeing the designers talk about Eros and Thanatos and the fact Eddies physical model was based one one of their friends). But, watching it, the 2001 game looks really dated and the voice acting of James and Laura isnt great. It could gave been a poisoned chalice, but Blooper team pulled off something special. My only real gripe at the moment, is there doesnt fell like theres a lot of the original music
Loving Silent Hill 2, it’s one of those remakes which feels like the original did in your head. I’ve just got to the toilet scene, and I keep hearing Groundskeeper Willie saying “Ach! You’ve got yerself a little friend!”
@Kraven , just a heads up, I’ve just finished Blasphemous and if you want to platinum it definitely use a guide (62 hours, 92.81% complete map, 57% of the trophies). I missed out on the good ending because I started a boss fight too early (after beating two other really hard bosses).
@Mintie best of luck! Ive been there, hopeful you’ll get something even better than your last one🙂. Your name always reminds me if a character in Spaced😄
@Shepherd_Tallon AS2 is so much fun, I play half an hour of horde mode every couple of days. I think I’ve played more horde mode than the single play, and I never do that! The remake of the original is out in a week or so too
@Shepherd_Tallon i started playing RE Village in PSVR2 over the weekend and, yeah, that was a bit intense. I went back to Arizona Sunshine 2 after an hour to lighten the mood. I actually think the gunplay is better in AS2, it feels a bit light in REV, but REV looks so good, fantastic use of HDR
I really want to hang on for the weekend, im so close to finishing Blasphemous and i know it will end up on the backlog if i dont. Really looking forward to it!
@Nepp67 i havent played Shattered Memories (which i think was a “reimagineering” of the original silent hill one) in a long time. I remember getting chased all over the first level by “something”😄
I’ve just dug out the original disks for Silent Hill Shattered Memories, Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3. I’ve only played the HD version in the last 15 years or so. I think I need to drag the PS2 out and go old school after the remake
@Kraven ive just looked and ive only got 27% of them, so pretty tough im guessing. Ive had to use a guide for loads of it (partly because im rushing), but wow its inscrutable! Certainly gives dark souls a run for its money!
Finishing up Blasphemous 1 for the first time. Im annoyed at myself that i slept on it when it first came out. So good. Just finished the career mode in Powerwash Simulator. I was going to hold out on SH2 until the pro comes, but i dont think theres much chance of that! Have a great weekend folks!
Theyll probably appear in the weekly races. Ill get around to it on friday. Need some comedy cars it this game, the Weinermobile! I miss they jumping lambos
Best soulsborne knockoff for me. Loved the art style of the environments, I’d say the NPCs could have done with a bit of work (and some of the voice acting). It made me want everything in Unreal 5
I was going to play, Lies of P but if its enhanced for Pro ill hang fire. Im catching up with Blasphemous (excellent metroidvania). Have a great weekend folks!
Got a standard one, im not bothered about the 30th anniversary one. Ive got a can of grey primer😄. Im looking forward seeing GT7 & Demons Souls. Ive still got Alan Wake 2 to start as well. Cant wait to see how Vampire Survivors looks too!
Really want to finish FF7 Rebirth, 170 hours in and I love it except for some of those boss/challenge encounters, the dodge and block is driving me nuts. Hopefully I can get a bit more Astrobot in too, but I’m trying not to slam it (it’s making me want to go back and play Astro’s Playroom too)
I should be playing FF7 Rebirth and Astrobot, but i have to play Vapire Survivors. Just got past the Ender. Such a fantastic little game. This and Animal Well are neo indie classics.
Also got a bit of GT7 in, the weeklies include a Porsche race, which was the first time id liked that new track.
@FinneasGH there a small reset hole on the underside of the controller big enough for the end of a paperclip. you could try doing a hard reset of the controller. There are loads of youtube videos about it so worth a try
The only thing that’s pushed the Vampire Survivors music out of my head is the Astrobot music. Almost 100%-ed the first Galaxy, and a bit of the Lost Galaxy. It’s making me want to go back and play Playroom too. Still need a bit of VS as a palette cleanser though (you say Potato, I say Poe Ratcho, let’s call the whole thing off)
I’m loving it, solid 9. It reminds me of the old Amiga/ST days. The drip feed of new stuff, that causes that dopamine squirt. Even the title screen gets more and more added to it. Perfect pick-up-and-play. I did start seeing a screenful of those gems in my head when I closed my eyes, haven’t experienced that persistence of vision in a while. It’s not for everyone, and that’s fine, but at £3.99 for the base game, it’s definitely worth rolling the dice
It’s a bit Diablo, a bit Gauntlet and a lot of fun. Getting the game and all the DLC for less than £15 is pretty darn good as far as I’m concerned. All those things to unlock!
Had a hankering to replay Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture (that music!), I still can’t believe it came out 9 years ago). It’s firing in nicely with having to catch up on some work.
@Northern_munkey im certainly not an expert of frame rate, I’ll leave that to Digital Foundry! My theory was just the harder the PS4 had to work the fewer frame you would get out of it. I guess I’m just say id hope developers / publishers would focus on boom for buck, rather than tacking of bells and whistles then telling us “Hey, this all costs”. I’m probably over simplifying!
Another problem is that publishers seem to think everything has to be a triple A, every game has to have 100 hours of dialogue, 40 hours of expositional dialogue (show, don’t tell!), and so much on screen clutter, the PS5 is trying to render a billion polygons a second at 4k (clutter is probably why Bloodborne was a 30FPS game).
All that costs. Just dial it back guys! I think that’s why Death Stranding was such a great game, it’s simplicity
With my backlog and the amount I replay, I’d just wait for sales. I’ve only bought a couple of £70 ones. Good luck with your “disappointing receptions” and “long tails” publishers!
I had zero interest in Harry Potter, but heard Hogwarts Legacy was good. Played it, loved it. A good game is a good game, not matter what the franchise
Every time I read this article (I’m pretty sure it pops up once a month), I see the Simpsons ”Stop! Stop! He’s dead already!” Gif in my head. It’s bad enough I went through so many years waiting for Half Life 3. Come on PushSquare! Have mercy!
Loved the original music, it captured that bleak, disconnected otherworldly atmosphere perfectly. Whatever the new game ends up being, I’m really looking forward to it now
Still playing Legend of Grimrock 2 on PC, so good! Hoping to finish it during the long weekend. Also playing through OG Doom, FF7 Rebirth (sooo much better than Remake). Might get a bit of Blasphemous in too. Have a great weekend Folks!
I’ve not renewed my PS Plus in the last 8 months, I was convinced it would go 50% off over Christmas, but it didn’t. Since I don’t play online, and Stars only seems to incentivise getting games I’m not interested in, it’s a complete irrelevance to me now. Same thing happened for me with Nintendo points. Oh well!
Wow, this sounds really positive. Thanks @LiamCroft (what was the music like, loved that original score). I almost didn’t want to read it, to go in cold, but glad I did. It’s a pity there’s not a PS5 version of the original 1, 2 & 3 for the purests😄. The HD version isn’t great on PS3 and Shattered Memories is a tough putt now, definitely showing its age.
Still playing Grimrock 2 on PC (such a good dungeon crawler), but I’m also fitting in some OG Doom (which I’ve bought a million times so it was nice to get the free version). I’ve still got the original box from 1994. Looking forward to the Arizona Sunshine remake in October
I’m pathologically addicted to AS2, finished on the top 3 difficulties. I’m still playing horde mode almost every day for an hour (54 hours plus). So looking forward to this and I’m happy to throw them full price. I really hope we get AS3, and a shout out to Sky Soleil for pretty much single-handedly carrying the voice acting
