For once I agree with their reasoning. In Canada inflation is horrid and cost of living is absurd. Food is hard to afford, let alone games.

I’ll wait til a major sale, perhaps. The game is too short, has absolutely no enjoyment after completing the story and fire starter/sandman side quests (which are short and repetitive), and honestly felt more empty than even Miles Morales. Definitely don’t feel it justifies the price, or its current state in existence. New game plus will just add more opportunities to play more of the same. Hard pass.

That being said, don’t harass the devs. It’s fine to not be happy about a game, to not like it, whatever. But be a decent human being.

I feel like in the age of the internet we need stricter and broader laws to prosecute these people. I’m sure many are minor, but surely their behavior is learned through watching parents/guardians right? If you can’t prosecute a minor then surely seeing their actions affect their elders is would serve as a better lesson than “oh well, they didn’t get me cause I’m faceless”.

Don’t get me wrong the game was divisive but this kind of behavior doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. If anything it’s getting worse.

@FatalBubbles having played it at midnight and just now getting back on, I was only incorrect in the separate lobby thing. It’s all one lobby, thankfully! But yeah, sounds like it’s not your cup of tea. Plenty of games mate! Enjoy!

@FatalBubbles nope. But for what it’s worth I’m glad. I would definitely watch some videos of Ragnarok Odyssey Ace and and Phantasy Star Portable and Portable 2. Game structure looks to be similar and it was so so fun, I’m excited about this one for that reason!

@FatalBubbles They took inspiration from one of the older Xseed published games, Ragnarok Odyssey/Ace. Similar hub. Single player has its own lobby, it looks like. Then you go to main menu, log into multiplayer and your character is brought over. At least that’s the vibe I got, and it works very well.

@Nepp67 this feels like a precursor to another game announcement, honestly. These two guys that run this sham use volunteers as meat shields for bad PR, I get the feeling they have no problem lying about going broke to avoid more fallout. Complete idiots.

@nomither6 as someone who grew up with Nintendo and loves their IPs, I completely agree. Nintendos inability to adapt to the times, outdated approach to specifications and incompetent online are its greatest enemies. Not competition, but ignoring its own carriage stuck in the mud. I’m hoping they don’t continue this way with the next system, because their own first party titles have been proven to struggle with the hardware and infrastructure they’re rocking.

Don’t get me wrong, the game is fine now. Still not my cup of tea but it’s a good game all the same. But I just find this press release laughable.

Never played the games before, but any interest I had is gone now. I’m excited to see sales numbers drop as these companies push this crap. Vote with your wallets

@themightyant yeah I was going to buy it day one but this coupled with the fact that FES isn’t included? Nah I’ll wait for the complete edition.

My problem is that games that do come to extra are ones I’ve already purchased months or years prior. So it’s redundant to me, and premium still has no value at all. I’m going all the way down to essential and not looking back when my sub lapses in May. I just don’t see the value, but kudos to those that are enjoying it.

@SgtTruth if this does become the case then honestly it will be for the best. GAAS is why there have been so few new games out of PlayStation, as the company is so invested in this trash that they’re quickly realizing the investment is more intense than they thought. Hence naughty dog canceling that last of us online thing.

@BacklogBrad in Ontario the post secondary teachers union, OPSEU, screwed over students and teachers alike then immediately found their president of 17 odd years in deep doo doo for embezzlement and misappropriation of funds. Yeah, I don’t support unions anymore. I support the people that need them, not the orgs themselves.

I’d love it if they could buy the dragon age/mass effect IPs off EA. They deserve better than whatever the corpse of BioWare is producing.

I have all three systems, and I’ll definitely say that I’ve been investing much much less into PlayStation than previous years. Downgrading from PS plus premium to essential, playing third party games on Xbox mostly due to gamepass (persona 3 reload is hitting that, why wouldn’t I?) and overall just not trusting Sony’s stability. The Pro model is of no interest without games on the current model, and the silence aside from insomniac is just absurd. Spiderman 2’s new game plus will be DOA with the huge delay, as it is likely to launch amidst dragons dogma 2 and FF rebirth.

@FX102A WB had said a while back that they're pursuing a live service mandate. This separates them from some companies who just say they're pursuing live services, live service models, etc. My understanding is that unless WB tells you you're allowed to, their studios have to lean towards live services. It's ugly, and I highly doubt Rocksteady themselves enjoy the overall model. I'm sure they're passionate about making it as good as they can, but it's like trying to make a broken toy new again. It won't happen, but you can at least make it look decent.

@RoomWithaMoose well said. Representation isn’t a problem at all. I liken it to employment. Hiring managers will often focus on diversity hires, which isn’t a bad thing. It becomes a bad thing when diversity is confused with tokenism. If the person is a visible minority, but poorly qualified then it falls into the latter. That, to me, is whatever ‘woke’ is: pushing for people to see you as progressive without a slight understanding of the cause you claim to fight for.

Having a woman as a main character? Lara Croft would like a word. Yeesh.

Don’t forget when he impersonated the HR rep by sending an email through her address. Effectively chucked her under the bus, even though she was far from a saint (both supported bringing in Wilmer Hale).

@Flaming_Kaiser I remember the original article, and quickly came the same conclusion. Frogwares provided all the evidence and documentation to prove their side was accurate and all Nacon did was bully them and complain about ungrateful developers. Truly ridiculous, they were just bitter that they expected the game to fail and it succeeded and then some. Happy to hear they got this back, I had considered playing it but held off because I didn’t want to make a purchase that could actively hurt the developers.

@clvr as someone with autism I’m happy to see this, honestly. I’m sick and tired of people trying to using autism as a defense for criminal behavior. To reiterate the same thing I’ve said elsewhere, autism would if anything make it less likely to commit crimes.

It’s not even a factor, he’s high functioning enough to pull this kind of garbage. He’s obviously way way above the ‘Lenny line’ and knows damn well his actions are not acceptable.

@Judal27 that’s my biggest worry truthfully. Like yeah game leaks suck, yada yada. But I really hope the employees affected aren’t harassed, financially altered, etc. They deserve peace and quiet, say what you will about game quality or playtime, they’re human beings who put their heart and soul into making art. They don’t deserve this.

@Bamila after Spider-Man 2 and the delay of new game plus to feb or march, I pretty much just threw in the towel on these games. I enjoy them, but not at their current price. Heck that update is coming out with dragons dogma 2, p3r, potentially Elden Ring DLC. It’s DOA.

I’d personally only spend 60 CAD on a game like Spiderman 2 at this point, there are cheaper games that give better ROI.

@EfYI as someone with autism I get quite pissy when I see some ***** do this. They’re stupid too, autism would make it harder to carry out criminal activities so the plea is moot. If I stab someone, I should go to prison. Autism or not, I stabbed someone.

Five menu options, one of which is generally not even on the menu (lobby) and two of which involve spending more money (store and battle pass). Look if this came out I’d want it to succeed due to the repercussions failure hurting naughty dog greatly…but this looks rough. I know it wasn’t even finished but damn. I’m so happy naughty dog is coming out of this live service BS ok. Love the studio, and they deserve better.

@Shakybeeves CI games confirmed the game sold well beyond expectations, so dlc would absolutely be a benefit to them. This studio truly did something special here, and showed creativity goes a long way.

Never found TLOU interesting in the least bit, but this is the right choice regardless. Naughty Dog makes great games, and while some won’t please everyone they deserve to focus on their passion and not a live service dumpster fire. Don’t get me wrong, not all live services are bad but having a single player narrative driven studio go that route is not going to be smooth sailing.

Frustrating given the lack of replay ability, but if this means a better new game plus better late than rushed. Game length aside, it wasn’t lacking in polish which honestly is more important.

@twitchtvpat I’ve been playing XVI the same way I played Ocarina of Time. Again and again, and genuinely loving every second of it. But you’ll definitely enjoy this one, they’re very concise missions and very enjoyable.

Not surprised but also happy about it. I love FF XVI but the ending was such a great and final (pun intended) way to end it. The characters all had growth, had their moments and it would be a disservice to dampen that with spinoffs and sequels that may or may not live up to expectations. Yoshida is also a very creative fellow, so I don’t really see him being all that interested in milking the same thing forever. Excited for The Rising Tide and whatever’s next!

@twitchtvpat I bought it at launch and have no regrets, still haven’t played the dlc. It’s a great game and I find it plays better than other Kt games despite the same garbage engine as the environments are smaller.

@somnambulance well said. Spider-Man 2 was a great game, but other games that didn’t win like Lies of P, Remannt 2 and Final Fantasy XVI were better. Yes, XVI did win one award but Spider-Man 2 was a very safe open world adventure. Nothing new, nothing groundbreaking, no “wow!” moments (venom mission was super cool but not a surprise). It was just…a good game. Insomniac thankfully is professional unlike the CoD devs who flipped out over one joke.

@Rob_230 I used an analogy when talking to a friend a few weeks ago about bungie being the industry’s serial dater. When someone jumps from one abusive relationship to another, instead of figuring their stuff out, eventually it ends poorly. Bungie has been acting like this for too long, using acquisitions as a means to get investments and then, either knowingly or unknowingly, sabotaging the arrangement. Not surprised it might come to this.

@AdamNovice in the same boat here. Bungie has been screwing around far far too much even before the acquisition. If this happens it’s a bed they made, but it sucks the developers will get hurt so much when management has been responsible for the BS.

Glad I didn’t buy payday 3, looked fun but after the disastrous launch and what really looks to be abandonment of the game this’ll be a studio I’ll turn a blind eye to.

@Athrum at least it’s from soft and we know what to expect. Tales of Arise dlc being standalone two years after launch was definitely not welcome for me. Especially at 40 bucks (CAD).

No new game plus means no returning to night city for me. Still very sour after launch, then seeing the roadmap gutted and then the claim that new game plus is too hard? Nah, I’ll give other games my time.

We all know Sony overpaid for bungie. My main suspicion is that bungie is sabotaging itself to get out of their agreement. Bungie has long been the industry’s serial dater, and doesn’t stay with one “owner” for long compared to its peers. Am I the only one who wonders about this?

@Jake3103 so this announcement is basically just fluff then. Ridiculous, these companies need to let live services die already.

If it’s new game plus I’ll jump back in and buy phantom liberty. It’s the one thing holding me back, if a game this big lacks new game plus I usually pass. Starting from scratch is unnecessarily painful.

Very admirable approach. Good to know they aren’t just laying people off. Let people work on stuff they’re passionate about and excel at.

So basically they cut content out of the upcoming season to then pad out the gap and hope people stick around for tiny morsels of content? I refunded the preorder and quit the game over a month ago, but holy hell am I glad I jumped ship. It sucks because the changes they need to make to increase player retention and investment isn’t hard to put in. Oh well. They learned well from World of Warcraft.

Will totally continue. They’ve learned nothing and having set those targets and only having chaos to show for it is not a good sign. This company is a sinking ship and I don’t see any world where it doesn’t require Lars to step down or companies to sell off. Speaking of which, they’re laying people off and closing studios instead of selling them off. This to me just sounds like mismanagement and isn’t something that’s going to get resolved by continuing the purge. Rogers is still there, so, yknow.

@BeerIsAwesome Here’s to hoping we never have to read about one this big again. I understand when someone new to business, someone who might be running a startup or something, makes this mistake. But a CEO who has quite robust experience in his position shouldn’t be making this kind of decision.

I’m hoping they can right the ship, not because I like Wingfors but because these devs are casualties of someone who has wealth beyond their comprehension being a fool.

@michaelf Honestly this announcement is reassuring to me. Not because I just LOVE live service games (I find most boring) but because it indicates more caution moving forward. Jim Ryan's attitude reminded me of the Star Wars "A New Hope" pilot saying "Stay on target!" a dozen times before he gets shot down for being cocky. New investments and pursuing bold ambitions are fine, but not with pomp. I wonder if Ryan's departure had something to do with how inflexible he was?

@BeerIsAwesome I can’t help but feel this is less a mistake and more of a tragic case of poor leadership. Wingfors started out more as a little guy, when it came to his presence in the industry at least. I liked him back then, but he absolutely got way too big much too fast. He is not a good leader for what has become such a huge company. This deal’s fallout was either a result of cluelessness or the aftermath of a man who burned out and overlooked core conduct integral to running a company.

@BeerIsAwesome the problem isn’t the saudis, it’s Embracers moron of a CEO Lars Wingfors. This absolute lemming bet his company’s life on a verbal agreement, which is the dumbest thing anyone can do for any business arrangement. Literally business 101, everything in writing. The man needs to be ousted, he’s so unbelievably incompetent that anything he touches is a massive liability. No one wants to partner with him now, and it’s because he made a complete rookie mistake.
