Re: The Last of Us HBO Exec Touches on Joel's Fate in Season 2

DeathlySW

From the comments by the cast, especially Pascal himself, it definitely sounds like they respect the source material. Regardless of my personal opinion of the games (not a fan), nothing makes me happier than a responsible and faithful adaptation. While it’d be fine to have a season or two that fills the time between part 1 and 2, Joel has to die. Otherwise they’re just pissing off the same people that made the show such a hit.

Re: The Outer Worlds Is Still a Mess on PS5, Two Patches Later

DeathlySW

I found it pretty consistent honestly, maybe I’m just less sensitive to frame dips. Even so gameplay isn’t doing much for me despite loving new Vegas.

Regardless I still wasted 70 bucks! Honestly the videos I’ve seen are really bad though, so hopefully they stop fussing around and fix it

Re: Random: Monster Energy Thinks You Might Confuse Its Drinks with Monster Hunter

DeathlySW

Surprised this is still happening. This company has been pulling this garbage for years, I’ve no idea what the intention is aside from throwing a temper tantrum over their brand not doing great in their market. Bizarre but pretty funny honestly, if they weren’t a company and instead a single individual they’d be considered litigious and told to bug off.

Re: UK Regulator No Longer Concerned About Activision Buyout's Impact on Console Competition

DeathlySW

@TheCollector316 I don’t disagree, but I also can’t help but see the deal as a wake up call for Sony to stop screwing around with remakes no one wants and their live service obsession. The reality is that Bungie left Microsoft due to poor leadership and oversight, and seeing what happens to Halo with 343 it is very hard to deny that it’s a trend. Sony is very much still the market dominator, and that’s unlikely to change. Eventually Microsoft is going to have to put out some exclusives that aren’t just products of acquisitions, and with Starfield launching in September and Spider Man 2 being rumoured to launch in the same window they’re going to have to make some decisions on how to run their business. My opinion of Phil Spencer has shifted dramatically over the course of this debacle, as it’s looking more and more like he’s a gamer and not a businessman.

Obviously it’s important to care about your product, unlike Jim Ryan, but nothing remarkable has happened under Phil’s leadership outside of acquisitions.

Re: Dead Island 2 Is 'Around 20 Hours' Long, Says Dambuster Studios

DeathlySW

@Dannyboy44 I think the price hike was definitely not acceptable by anyone’s standards. When they priced it at 59 CAD and cancelled preorders before hiking it to 79 it did leave a sour taste. Again, I’ll wait for reviews from Skillup, Digital Foundry etc before buying. But I am still hopeful, and from what they’ve shared it seems quite good.

Re: Dead Island 2 Is 'Around 20 Hours' Long, Says Dambuster Studios

DeathlySW

@Dannyboy44 I didn’t spend any money on this game during development, I’m only spending on it once reviews come out because I just don’t trust devs will ever release a game without issues again.

But I think 20 hours is fine, especially if it has new game plus. Games are expensive now more than ever, can’t fight that. Some folks like games that are endless, others like brief jaunts. The original dead island with side quests saw me beat it in 13 hours. So who knows?

Re: Dead Island 2 Is 'Around 20 Hours' Long, Says Dambuster Studios

DeathlySW

As long it has new game plus I'm all in. For what it's worth the developer is also being unusually transparent, which to me says they're confident and quite happy with the product. Replayability is not just contingent on how massive the game is. AC Valhalla was said to have high replayability but the most replayability it had for me was the time spent uninstalling and reinstalling to check out new updates and then cycling again.

Re: Surprise! Forspoken and Other Square Enix Games Didn't Meet Sales Expectations

DeathlySW

Hard to not view this as a way to collect insurance money to throw at this idiot’s NFT hobby. Seriously, ever since this guy voiced his love for nfts every game they’ve released outside of ones they know will sell wildly well (Final Fantasy XIV, VII) completely flop. Their target for Guardians of the Galaxy was also ridiculous. The company seems more and more like a front for this lunatics gambling habits. Hopefully Sony flat out buys then and gets rid of his replacement.

Re: Sony Concerned Microsoft Could, Knowingly or Not, Sabotage Call of Duty on PlayStation

DeathlySW

@Kevw2006 Agreed. Microsoft also phrased that whole statement cautiously. Sure a game could come to PlayStation at the same time, duration etc but will Sony pay them the fees to have it? No idea.

Worth paying special attention to their use of the term ‘eligible’ though. This is the same stunt they pulled for Bethesda games. “Exclusive on a case by case basis”, is what they said. Meaning virtually nothing new is looking to be multiplatform.

The reality is that while Sony has reason to be worried, their market position is not in danger.

Re: Sony Concerned Microsoft Could, Knowingly or Not, Sabotage Call of Duty on PlayStation

DeathlySW

This is hilariously bad timing to make this argument. Destiny 2 just released its first expansion since Sony acquired them and it’s a technical mess, crashing multiple times on ps5, network issues etc.

Not to mention the “PlayStation is the best place to play” is the same thing as “plays best on xbox”. It just shows they don’t want competition at all and are happy to provide false information to regulators in order to retain their market position.

This just looks desperate and served to remind me how much of a circus this company is. PlayStation is my platform of choice and has been for years, but holy moly is their corporate drama ridiculous.

Re: Sony Ordered to Pay Refunds As Austrian Court Declares FIFA Gambling

DeathlySW

@StylesT that’s what I got from this. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely hate these games and do agree they’re a form of gambling, but these specific plaintiffs sound more bothered they didn’t get what they wanted than they are about the fact that these packs are unethical.

The hilarious thing is that these folks probably spent more on the lawsuit than they spent on the game. Talk about dedication to being angry.

Re: European Union Likely to Pass Xbox's $69 Billion Buyout of Activision

DeathlySW

@cjay_001 this is 100% accurate. While the biggest criticism towards Phil and Co has been their lax approach to first party development (take the money, we trust you to deliver a stellar product) no one I’ve spoken to who has worked at Microsoft has objected to how to well they treat their employees. I’m genuinely fine with this even if CoD became exclusive, PlayStation was for many years an rpg/action system. Sure there were plenty of shooters but it didn’t gain its notoriety for having cod. Hell, Sony killed franchises that could have competed with CoD like Resistance and Killzone.

I genuinely support this deal, and while I certainly am salty about the Bethesda stuff mostly going exclusive I don’t blame Microsoft for doing so. Sony has a reputation for throwing money around to stop games from having certain features on Xbox and even Nintendo, so as far as I’m concerned it’s good for competition because sony is and has been in danger of becoming too complacent to easily retain their market position.

Plus, I don’t think anyone would give a fluff if ABK lost Kotick.

Re: Sony Must Share Details of Exclusivity Deals with Microsoft in FTC's Court Hearing

DeathlySW

@Beerheadgamer82 The reason for this debacle is that Sony is arguing that Microsoft is extremely dangerous to their market position, while Microsoft is claiming that Sony won't be in any danger. This acquisition is ridiculous and while I genuinely agree and frankly disapprove of MS trying to just buy third parties to make them 'first party' (Halo Infinite went wonderfully! Such brilliance!) without any showcase of their internal games being good (Fable? Elder Scrolls? Avowed?), Sony is being extremely difficult with this. Reboot Killzone if you want to compete with COD! These regulators just want to ensure that the narratives are true and without exaggeration. Sony has done far more of the exaggerating this run of litigation, and it's about to bite them in the bum.

But yes, everyone looks infantile and very stupid in this situation.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Atomic Heart?

DeathlySW

With how many games I've bought day one, my reason for waiting on this is a suffering wallet. Poor Guy. Lightfall is my last big one until April, last couple of months alone had Forspoken, Wild Hearts, Hogwarts Legacy and Fire Emblem Engage. Will watch streams of it from smaller streamers though as I do find it artistically intriguing and quite a looker.

Re: Microsoft Admits Xbox Game Pass Is Harming Software Sales After All

DeathlySW

I personally don’t mind paying full price for games at launch when they’re of a calibre that justifies the pricing. The issue is that most of the day one releases on game pass either release buggy as hell, or are subpar at best. Starfield could possibly change that a great deal, as could Wild Hearts but at the end of the day I want quality over quantity.

Each platform has its strengths and I’m on PlayStation because its strengths are just THAT good.

The conflicting information from Microsoft looks bad though, especially when it comes to regulators.

Re: Atomic Heart PS5, PS4 Trophy List Will Have You Drinking Vodka for the Platinum

DeathlySW

@thefourfoldroot1 The crazy thing is that you don’t even need to beat the game. You just need to complete a few of the main quests in each house, but that basically means several hours of unskippable tutorials three extra times. I wouldn’t mind if they had new fame plus though, so hopefully they add that at some point. The game is genuinely THAT good that I would totally play through it several times over. But with characters I do not care to play? Nah, I’ll pass.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Forspoken?

DeathlySW

8 here. Primary reason being the length and price tag don't justify one another. It's very much an amazing game, and I love it a great deal. There are rough edges for sure, however. Pop in is a major eyesore, much of the open world is generic "point a to point b" ticking off boxes and the HDR is hit or miss depending on the areas.

I found too much enjoyment in the story, characters, design and music to lower the score any more though. Gameplay speaks for itself, though it's clearly not everyone's cup of tea.

It's a game that's clearly a labour of love by the developers but nothing can offset the shortcomings.

Re: 72% of PS Plus Subscribers Satisfied with Service, Says Sony

DeathlySW

@Shepherd_Tallon I'm in the same boat. It's nice when the free games are killer ones like Bloodborne or FF VIIR, but its just a stable service that I personally feel easily justifies its price tag. Doesn't stop me from trashing sony for anti consumer BS, but for the service itself I have minimal complaints.

Re: PS5, PS4 Exclusives Will 'Deteriorate' if Launched on PS Plus, Says Sony CFO

DeathlySW

At first I thought it was BS, but if you look at the Xbox Game Pass situation they've actually not even had a decent day one launch. Halo Infinite, that game from Remedy that sucked.

Either Sony is overspending on exclusives or Game Pass will eventually become a quantity over quality situation. As rubbish as the PS Plus revamp looks to me, as long as the exclusive quality doesn't tank after these statements I won't really mind.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin?

DeathlySW

My decision whether to buy it hinged on team ninja and their anti Spotify bs. Clearly they decided to do that again, so it'd a no buy for me. I have no clue what crawled up their rear with the new gen of consoles. Nioh 2 on PS4 supported it and suddenly nothing of theirs on ps5 works with Spotify. So yeah, I'm out until they address it. They've so far been completely silent and ignore tweets or messages asking about it.
