@Zeke68 sounds more like they’re trying to be an everything platform like Xbox used to be marketed under matrick. Not a flattering comparison, to do that you’d need to not be as paranoid as Sony is when it comes to opening up the ecosystem.
Canada here, Ubisoft is struggling to even get testers for this one. They only tell you the game once you show up and they’ve been cancelling playtests due to a lack people. It’s nuts, no one wants this game.
I love the implementation of venom, the story even when it takes a hit on the pace, graphics, performance. All of it.
But I don’t think taking it down from a 10 to a 9 is enough of a hit, and that’s solely because of the horrific busywork. Just when I was getting into the swing of things the game tells you to stop having fun because there’s a new little activity. I just got the suit off, roughly 8 hours into the game. And it’s STILL force feeding me garbage side activities that are a slog. The platinum is easy to get, yes, but that’s if you have the patience to blatantly not enjoy yourself for a dozen hours. That’s a problem for me, and seems to really just be there to force the game to have legs.
Love it man, love this game but I can definitely say that at this point every time I see a new side activity minigame garbage heap thrown in my face I want to just give up and not complete the game. That’s a problem with presentation, as the story is amazing on its own yet insomniac wants to try and prevent being engrossed in it.
7 out of 10 for me. People aren’t harsh enough on Valhalla style filler.
@theSpectre a lot of the reports of huge issues came from accounts whose sole existence is smack talking Sony. I’ve plenty of issues with Sony, don’t get me wrong, but the game hasn’t had any issues for me and most of the ‘bugs’ shown were mashups of random graphical bugs, textures not loading etc. isolated incidents being crammed together to give the illusion of brokenness.
It’s fine to not like PlayStation, it’s fine to be mad Spider-Man isn’t on Xbox. I get it, but be an adult about it and don’t make up stuff just to make yourself feel better.
@Jayslow It bugs me quite a bit honestly because the game doesn't feel as complete as it otherwise would. However, the reality is we're moving towards a heavily if not all digital future so it's largely redundant. The only thing holding back all digital being more readily embraced is generational storefronts. If that gets addressed, as Nintendo is rumoured to be doing, I'd have less reservations.
@UltimateOtaku91 they also have an incentive to, at least for the first while, not do anything rash. Spencer isn't stupid, he's well aware that this is not the kind of purchase that would be allowed to proceed in other industries. This is a big ticket for the xbox brand and he's not going to screw it up by pulling stuff. Keep in mind they only signed an agreement when it comes to call of duty. Other franchises are free game.
@Rmg0731 most likely. People are talking about how he’s been at PlayStation for thirty years, but he only lead for four. That’s not a good thing, as it shows how poor his leadership was. It’s more and more evident he wasn’t just out of touch with gamers, he was out of touch with his own company.
Been losing faith in PlayStation since he took over, and to be honest I’d cheer to see them announce that all of these games are cancelled. Useless.
Played the devs other stuff years ago on android, very janky and weird stuff. Honesty I don’t believe that the Phantom Blade Zero is real, if it is I firmly stand behind the opinion that it’s almost all QTEs. If I’m wrong this comment will age like milk.
@MasterPlayerOne To be completely honest, this seems to be more Gaming Heads issue. Licenses expire all the time, if they didn't bother to renew it or simply weren't approved that's up to them to figure out. This post reads as a "we aren't going to refund you because we don't want to" statement really. If their license agreement expired and hasn't been renewed, they need to refund customers who ordered items that clearly aren't going to get delivered. Sounds like bad management lead to a temper tantrum like this one.
Sony is a piece of work, make no mistake, but this isn't their problem.
@__jamiie he hasn’t. This is the guy who once said “I don’t understand why people like games so much.” While leading a gaming company. The guy is not remotely fit for this role.
@TommyNL I’m aware but Sony has a history of this. It’s a regular occurrence for them. Would love to see a a chart of hacks, which companies were targeted and the frequency of each one.
@MagisterMagi that’s what I got from it as well. Perhaps not a takeover, but a pivot in a direction he didn’t agree with. It’s not like the guy is perfect, wonderful 101 was pretty messy, but one things he’s been consistent with is cohesive gameplay without extra fluff. PG has been making some weird choices lately and that tencent investment was really a red flag for many.
The crashing after the update is horrific. Still a poorly optimized dumpster fire. In only an hour on a brand new character I crashed twice, with one being accompanied by extremely loud fans. Studio is on my blacklist, right next to Techland. Expect tons of problems with Phantom Liberty if this is anything to go by.
That’s an insane price tag for something standalone. Doubling down on my earlier comments that I’ll be skipping this one. Two years later and doesn’t have any interaction with the main game? Pass
@ShogunRok Are there any improvements on the visual/performance side? The game looks great but often gets into the "how'd that vaseline get on my screen?" territory.
@cragis0001 As a playstation long hauler, I'm glad someone else is aware of this. Bethesda was always close with Microsoft. Hell, their games have notoriously been worse experiences on playstation. Bethesda went home, Blizzard as well. These are companies that always fared better on Microsoft ecosystems, so being acquired formally didn't surprise me. Sony has actively been touting being the best place to play while doing everything they can to effectively do nothing. It's fine to not like xbox, but Sony is just as bad if not worse given the fact that our platform has basically been getting shafted by a CEO who understands nothing about gaming.
@NinjaNicky Yeah that would be enough for me to jump platforms. On its own, not so much, but coupled with Sony's decreasing appeal for me and poor choices with development and services I'm already losing my patience with them. Been fifteen years since I got my first Sony console so I don't take bailing lightly.
@thefourfoldroot1 it requires the base game. Don’t be me wrong I bought the base game digitally but the dlc not carrying on with your save file and just giving money and xp for having played is really just not a selling point. I’m out on this one, even though I did enjoy the base game.
It’s been over two years since the game came out, I completed it last summer. I’m really confused as to what is going on with devs under Bandai Namco. This is really really late for dlc, and not having it be attached to main game is a dealbreaker for me. On top of that, why does it require the base game to be played if it’s seperate? Doesn’t bode well for Elden Ring, and I don’t say that to be controversial or upset anyone. I just don’t see this as a sign that we should be hopeful considering the timeframe.
@LiamCroft awesome to hear! Can I take a screen cap and post this on the subreddit? Lots of folks having an increasingly negative discourse about this. How should I credit you?
@LiamCroft hey Liam! Does it have new game plus? Haven’t been able to find any confirmations of this and it’s the one thing that can make this a day one purchase for me. Everything else, demo included, looks impeccable.
@Cashews gameplay wise it’s quite fun though, so considering the base game price is usually floating around 20-30 bucks CAD it’s a good buy. For the dlc, I would err on the side of caution.
@Cashews can only speak for console but it’s running well enough. There’s a good deal of blurriness at times, and most of the gameplay shown as of late is on high end PC or otherwise modded. Frankly I’m waiting for release and reviews, I’m well and done resolving to purchase games on launch when we still have more questions than answers.
I’d wait for it if I were you, smells like another case of putting lipstick on a pig.
@Ludacritz same here. It feels like premium is falsely advertised as is anyway, and extra sees games rotating out too quickly. They clearly say that all games over 40 USD must have a trial within a few months but then they don’t ever enforce it leading to virtually no trials of any worth. Extra mainly consists of games that have previously been given out before the Plus changes rolled out, and thus punish longtime subscribers. I’m dropping two tiers to essential and am now planning to grab an Xbox and enjoy Starfield, watching cautiously as to whether I should jump ship or not. Sony is making a lot of bad decisions lately, and it’s worrisome.
I only remember the name Casey Hudson because he left, returned, left, returned then left again. Jokes aside, this is par for the course with EA laying off testers. They did the same with Apex Legends testers and clearly are confident in their games.
Place bets for faceless npcs in Dreadwolf and contorting character models?
@Batsugun887 FF XVI was fine by me, even in performance mode. The games that really make me question hardware revisions are games from Team Ninja which have been absolutely vomiting out releases this gen and almost all have looked like a muddy bowl of vaseline and barely hit 30 fps at times. If a game looks good and plays well, fine. But we haven't seen much at this point to justify an upgrade.
As I mentioned previously, I'd love for Sony to mandate a 60 fps, 4k mode in all games. So far I've felt like a paying beta tester for most games this gen. Exceptions being Dead Island 2, Demons Souls, Returnal, Hogwarts Legacy and Final Fantasy XVI. If games are truly taking six or seven years to develop nowadays, hardware ought to reflect that.
My stance is that the issues this gen are due to developers and not hardware limitations. For that reason it'll be the first gen that I flat out refuse to buy a hardware revision/upgrade until I see devs bothering to use it. First party titles seem to be pretty consistent but third parties have done little but muck around and smack 30 fps and 1440P on games.
Only way I splurge on this would be if Sony puts out a mandate that all games with a PS5 version run at 60 fps @ 4k as a minimum. Sony is notorious for tacking on absurd fees for devs, but I would 100% support this directive.
I’m honestly surprised they responded at all. Even when the allegations don’t directly target the company behind the franchise, I usually see them stay quiet and give typical “no comment” shtick. Sounds like they at least understand that their cash cow doesn’t exist without these people, so hopefully this gets resolved. Formosa would be wise to pay up, unless this is more complicated and Hoyoverse underpaid the firm. Will keep an eye on this one.
@Somebody Jim Ryan himself testified (via prerecorded deposition) that he didn’t think it was for bad for competition at all. It hurts Sony, that’s it.
@ED_209 I hope not. After that first showcase I have no faith in their live services. That Horizon one sounds like it could be good, but time will tell. The ones they showed during that presentation were all subpar to borderline “kill it before it comes out”. Even Marathon isn’t looking great given how bad Bungies infrastructure has been.
@Anthony_Daniels which is exactly what will happen. Sony has been very quiet about potential acquisitions due to this debacle, and I’m just glad to be moving on from it. I want a healthier PlayStation, and that means it needs more competition. Bring it.
While I’m cautiously optimistic, can anyone link me an actual comment by Kiryu that is anything remotely close to what Matsuda was when it comes to NFTs? Like, I can’t find anything to back up that claim and while it’s Kiryu’s job to support the (previous) CEO I really do hope he doesn’t keep pushing NFTs.
@Green-Bandit Was going to say this as well. I'm all for regulating competition to ensure fair practice, but the RCC is just talking about things that have been bog standard for a while now. The statement about preventing games from being sold elsewhere is also interesting because Nintendo is far far more infamous for this. Why Sony and not Nintendo?
At the end of the day competition is good. As a playstation fan as well Diablo fan, I hope Microsofts acquisition goes through. Not because I want to lose things I enjoy but because I want more competition, which results in better quality products more often than not.
@BeerIsAwesome it’s sad but true. I love PlayStation and want to have things to look forward, I just take issue with the approach to creation more questions than answers. People see iffy showcases and say “well, brands dead.” They forget all the stuff on hand like FF XVI, Diablo 4…oh well, I tried.
Look, it was not a great showcase but these aren’t for us anyway. They’re intended for shareholders. Just pray we never get a game where Jim Ryan is the main character.
@themcnoisy that line was more entertaining and fun than the actual showcase. Admittedly I had zero faith going into this showcase and simply watched comments as it aired because I just didn't want to waste an hour watching Sony advertise mostly garbage or things WE the gamers don't want aka boatloads of live service games. Jim Ryan needs to go and needs to go soon. He has no idea how to run anything but hardware sales, and this is an industry where that's a loss anyway.
@BlueWeezer I honestly hope not as well. Like I’d be fine with the snake eater remake and then a couple new IPS or sequels. But I really don’t want the video game industry to mimic Hollywood.
8/10, only because the initial performance was super bad and the patch didn’t do much to fix it barring getting rid of most of the screen tearing. It’s a stellar game but I’ll be damned if I’m not sick and tired of being a paying tester.
@Sakai they’ll have to make concessions on the cloud front, which from what they’ve said is unlikely. The picture they’ve portrayed is that the call of duty dialogue, the mobile dialogue and so forth were distracting from the cloud aspects of the deal.
@get2sammyb not just the CMA but other regulatory bodies will look at these statements and also dig in given it makes MS look really bad. If there was nothing to worry about, why the bizarrely hostile responses and threats?
@Cutmastavictory they understand it perfectly. they could easily make concessions with respect to cloud services, game pass restrictions, etc but they haven't made any effort to do so. That, at least to me, says they're well aware of this and were probably banking on CoD to take up al the spotlight and distract from other factors.
@ROTTIEMAN16 the disc is just a key, so you’ll need the internet regardless. The download is 147 GB, or it was when I installed mine. That being said, the screen tearing blew my mind. Truthfully I’ve rarely noticed screen tearing but holy hell this was absolutely front and centre. Glad to see they jumped on it!
Really weird this one. EA has clearly been using the ps5 compression tech for other titles so I’m unsure what the deal here is. The file size is concerning, though, so I’ll wait for a digital foundry review. Given the visuals are not a HUGE step up from fallen order, I smell performance issues and optimization struggles. Hopefully I’m wrong, because the game looks amazing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most of the characters that try to flirt with her men? Maybe I'm forgetting someone, but the dudes are all up in her face with that so it honestly doesn't surprise me as a heterosexual guy that she's lesbian. And do we really care that much? I mean, christ, Mass Effect had some same sex stuff didn't it? I think the biggest issue with the dlc is that its skipping ps4 and given the game was sold at full price for that console I genuinely understand frustration at that.
As for lesbian stuff in games, if it fits the narrative I don't have an issue. Tokenism is the big issue and this isn't it.

Re: Games 'Big and Small' and 'from All Over the World' at PS Showcase
@BlueWeezer I honestly hope not as well. Like I’d be fine with the snake eater remake and then a couple new IPS or sequels. But I really don’t want the video game industry to mimic Hollywood.
Re: Games 'Big and Small' and 'from All Over the World' at PS Showcase
Based on rumblings I'm expecting more remakes. Hard pass.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Star Wars Jedi: Survivor?
8/10, only because the initial performance was super bad and the patch didn’t do much to fix it barring getting rid of most of the screen tearing. It’s a stellar game but I’ll be damned if I’m not sick and tired of being a paying tester.
Re: Activision Poised to Pocket a Cool $3 Billion if Xbox Buyout Breaks Down
@Sakai they’ll have to make concessions on the cloud front, which from what they’ve said is unlikely. The picture they’ve portrayed is that the call of duty dialogue, the mobile dialogue and so forth were distracting from the cloud aspects of the deal.
Re: PS Store's Massive May Savings and Golden Week Sales Discount Over 2,400 PS5, PS4 Games
@Athrum I bought Outer Worlds: Spacers Choice edition at launch. I was a fool.
Re: Microsoft Goes Scorched Earth Over UK's Activision Buyout Block
@get2sammyb not just the CMA but other regulatory bodies will look at these statements and also dig in given it makes MS look really bad. If there was nothing to worry about, why the bizarrely hostile responses and threats?
Re: Microsoft Goes Scorched Earth Over UK's Activision Buyout Block
@Cutmastavictory they understand it perfectly. they could easily make concessions with respect to cloud services, game pass restrictions, etc but they haven't made any effort to do so. That, at least to me, says they're well aware of this and were probably banking on CoD to take up al the spotlight and distract from other factors.
Re: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Has 2023's Most Essential PS5 Patch (So Far)
@ROTTIEMAN16 the disc is just a key, so you’ll need the internet regardless. The download is 147 GB, or it was when I installed mine. That being said, the screen tearing blew my mind. Truthfully I’ve rarely noticed screen tearing but holy hell this was absolutely front and centre. Glad to see they jumped on it!
Re: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PS5 Physical Copies Require a Download to Play
Really weird this one. EA has clearly been using the ps5 compression tech for other titles so I’m unsure what the deal here is. The file size is concerning, though, so I’ll wait for a digital foundry review. Given the visuals are not a HUGE step up from fallen order, I smell performance issues and optimization struggles. Hopefully I’m wrong, because the game looks amazing.
Re: Everyone's Talking About the End of Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores on PS5
