I played the demo a bit. Excellent graphics and controls. The only thing holding me back is my backlog. Still working on FF7 Rebirth, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 looks like my kind of time sink.
I have hundreds of hours poured into Cyberpunk 2077. I’ll probably play hundreds more before I am done. That game is on my all-time best list, along with Skyrim and others.
This sounds incredible. Audio is one of my favorite entertainment formats, as I consume podcasts and such in great quantities. This is an obvious purchase for me.
I hate to see studio failure, but it’s important for teaching lessons in the industry. People may be getting tired of live service games. Not entirely, as Hell Divers 2 shows, but this style of game may not be the future after all. Some companies hit it big, as we’ve seen with Genshin Impact and Fortnite, but lately they’ve not doing so hot. I just don’t want to see Sony give up on the big single player games while chasing live service gambles.
I’m one of those guys who loves single player story driven games. It’s why PS5 is my favorite place to play games, especially since I don’t own a gaming PC. Keep the blockbusters coming, Sony!
It’s always sad to hear about job losses. This move mirrors much of the greater tech industry in that the over-hiring during the pandemic, and then the following economic slowdown being experienced worldwide is leading to inevitable retraction. Companies have little choice but to slim down, make high selling products, and try to weather the current market downturn.
I’m looking forward to the DLC. FF16 is one of my favorites in the series, and I have every trophy available, which I’ve never done before as long as I have been a PlayStation player.
Now the people on the internet can stop being mad about teenage Tifa being more covered up in Rebirth than she was in Remake. Sounds to me like her dad told her to not walk around dressed like that. I’m a dad and I know how those conversations go.
I have had the most enjoyment with GT7 on my PSVR2. Games which require you to remain stationary and in a cockpit are ideal for VR. With that in mind, a mech piloting game in VR could be perfect.
I really enjoyed Suikoden 1 and 2 on the PlayStation 1 all those years ago. The story of war and collecting all the characters was excellent. I will definitely be playing this upcoming game. RIP, Murayama-San.
My grocery bill this past week was $180, up from about $100 average just a few years ago. If everyone else is feeling the same squeeze, cuts to entertainment spending is inevitable. Inflation is terrible.
I don’t remember the last time I downloaded and played a PS Plus monthly game, but I always add them to my library. Foamstars has my attention, however.
PlayStation is where the money is. Makes sense for Microsoft to bring their games over to the paying customers. Sort of like how Apple’s App Store is where the paying customers are in the mobile scene.
This art style is quite good so far. I like the colors and character design. I could be wrong, but it seems like Eve was a bit bouncier in earlier reveals, and perhaps she was toned down a bit. This is a good thing, as I was never a fan of the super bouncy Dead or Alive style of many anime games from a decade or so ago. Eve looks pretty awesome.
I was one of the guys who bought an Xbox Series X for Starfield and a couple other exclusives. Other than that, I am mostly playing on PS5. This is good news because I don’t hate the Xbox, but I barely touch it. Better to have everything on my PlayStation.
As for the game itself, Starfield is not great, but it is not terrible either. Just a little disappointing and didn’t live up to expectations.
My nephew is the type to spend every dollar he comes across on FTP items and characters. Who knows how much birthday and Christmas money he has spent on Genshin Impact! I personally don’t play FTP, but have spent money on EverQuest, WoW, and FFXIV subscriptions over the years.
I’m on almost daily since around 2018 when I switched from being a PC-only bro to mostly a console casual when I got a PS4 Pro. It only solidified when I got a PS5 in February of 2021. Haven’t really felt the need to go back to PC since.
With my original PS4, I was never really super impressed, but found that the small quality of life improvements with the PS4 Pro made using the console more enjoyable. Maybe a PS5 Pro would have similar benefits.
Many people will love it, for sure. I have always wanted to like western isometric style RPGs, but they never clicked with me. I bought Diablo IV because many of my friends have it. Still no for me.
I don’t dislike all western RPGs. Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 were both great. It’s just the tabletop look and clicking on things that never worked for me.
I’m just a Japanese style RPG guy for life, I suppose.
I would definitely buy a PS5 Pro. My current PS5 would then move to the living room for the family to use.
When I had the original PS4, I didn’t use it much. Then in 2018 I bought a PS4 Pro and it became my favorite console. It just seemed snappier at common tasks and menus, not to mention running games better.
I’m confident that a PS5 Pro would be a similar upgrade. Probably not earth-shattering, but something to appreciate.
I’m working my way through New Game + Final Fantasy Mode, and Clive just keeps getting better in my view when it comes to video game protagonists.
I’ve played all of the main entries, starting with FF1 on NES at 11 years old.
The characters that I hold in highest esteem are most of FF4 cast, most of FF6 cast, Basch and Balthier from FF12, all the bros from 15, several FF14 scions, and now we have a new best protagonist in Clive Rosfield. The very good boy Torgal is part of the package.
2023 has been a great year for video games. Zelda: TotK, and then Final Fantasy 16 have been like getting Christmas twice in just a couple months span.
I have absolutely loved FF16, and for me personally, it’s my favorite FF since FF6 back on the Super Nintendo.
Good call, my fellow Push Square reader team! FFXVI is certainly my favorite game of the year so far, narrowly nudging out that giant game on Switch that came out a month prior.
We’re a month away from launch day, and every gaming minute until then is focused on Tears of the Kingdom. Honestly, after Zelda’s insanely vast 3 layer cake of open world, I will be ready for FFXVI’s more focused style.
The author has similar tastes in Final Fantasy as I do. 12 was awesome, 13 was forgettable, 14 was an MMO (I played a lot of that one through Heavensward), 15 was a fun bro road trip with a dash of Final Fantasy flavor - good, but not great.
FF16 looks great. I’m going to call my chocobo “Roach” because the game reminds me of another that I enjoyed.
I’m subscribed to Extra and I have no time to play much of what’s available. My backlog is huge.
To compound matters, Horizon Blazing Shores, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Final Fantasy 16 are all coming out over the next couple months, starting next week.
If supplies are opening up, maybe they can crank out a mid-cycle upgrade. I got my PS5 in February 2021, so I’m willing to jump up to a PS5 Pro and put my old one in the spare room for the kids.
I’m totally fine with action RPGs as long as the game is well-made.
I grew up with FF and Dragon Warrior on NES, and then every RPG I could find as a kid through the SNES, PlayStation, and up. Even though I enjoyed turn-based gameplay, I saw it as being a limitation of what could be done in order to tell a bigger story, and we had to use our imaginations to fill in what the hardware and graphics of the time couldn’t do.
Today’s games are very much what I imagined when I would play Dragon Warrior 4 on NES, but now they are fully realized.
My older brother still says that RPGs should only be turn-based, and he really likes nostalgia-inducing games. I get that, but I like to play new stuff too.
This game is sounding very similar to Witcher 3, which is a very good game to be compared to.
I say this as I am finally playing Witcher 3 for the first time on PS5. Wow, what an amazing game I have procrastinated to play! I’m honestly torn between Witcher 3 and Zelda BotW for the best game of their genre.
If FFXVI is a Final Fantasy version of what I have been experiencing with Geralt, I will be very happy.
I’m still figuring out how to get the best image quality from my headset. GT7 and Horizon can be just a bit blurry. This is my first VR experience, so I will get better at using it soon.
That said, I have an extremely weak left eye that was completely turned inward at birth, but I have managed to straighten over the years. I’m wondering if this affects the eye-tracking rendering, somehow confusing the processing. I can see out of my left eye, yet I don’t have 100% binocular function as a person without my condition does.
I’m curious to know if others with eye problems have noticed this in VR applications.
@Daleaf No, I am in the US. Looks like Sony had them stockpiled in Ohio at a distribution center, which isn’t too far from me, probably allowing it to reach me sooner than expected.

Re: Digital Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Owners Unable to Unlock Platinum Trophy
I am loving FF7 Rebirth, but quickly decided that I won’t bother with the Platinum Trophy, which I did get in FF16.
The reason is that I can’t bring myself to enjoy the mini games enough to even want to play them, especially Queen’s Blood.
The story and the combat are stellar, but I can do without the extra stuff. I’m glad that it’s there for people who enjoy it.

Re: PS Portal Proving More Popular Than Sony Expected
The Portal would be great to have if the television in my house was contended for. Seems like a solid option for certain households.
I have my PS5 in my bedroom with its own 42 inch OLED, so I’m not the intended audience, but I’m glad it exists for those who can benefit.

Re: Dawntrail Adding Artistic Pictomancer Job Class to Final Fantasy 14 on PS5, PS4
Pictomancer is interesting. Back in my childhood on the Super Nintendo, I was never too fond of Relm in FF6.
Raids might be filled with crazy splatoon effects shortly.
Re: Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail Debuts Zidane-Like Viper Job in New Trailers
I started FFXIV at the launch of A Realm Reborn. This game granted my wish for an on-line Final Fantasy that played as well as World of Warcraft.
I haven’t played consistently since Stormblood, but hop in every so often to see what’s new and catch up on the story.
The PS5 version of FFXIV is smooth and works great with keyboard and mouse, or a controller.
Re: Poll: Do You Still Play Diablo 4?
I bought Diablo IV at launch and put about 50 hours into it. 3 of my friends also played, and only one has stuck with it.
As much as I wanted to like the game, the isometric style just isn’t my thing. I’m not a DnD player, or fan of the tabletop look.

Re: Final Fantasy Creator Believes Latest Instalment Is Ultimate Entry in Franchise
FF16 is one of my favorites in the series. It’s also the first PlayStation game that I’m actively trying to get the Platinum trophy for. Very close!
This game just clicks with me, even the side quests in the first half of the story.

Re: Final Fantasy 16's PS5 File Size Pegged At 90.1GB
I finally broke and downloaded the demo last night after learning that progress carries over to the retail version.
It absolutely blew me away! Best opening 2 hours in any FF game, and I have been there since FF1 as a wee lad.
Re: The Witcher 3 Sales Top a Ridiculous 50 Million
I was very late to the Witcher 3 party, always wanting to play it, but so many other games taking my time.
Finally I decided to give it my full attention when the PS5 version came out.
This made me realize that I was putting off one of the best games I’ve ever experienced.
Curious question: Why does the official artwork show Geralt holding his sword and sheath like that? It’s always on his back in the game.

Re: Final Fantasy 16's Jaw-Dropping PS5 World Will Make You Say Wow

This game could be amazing.

Of course, realistically I agree with you.

Hopefully Horizon Call of the Mountain will work without a hitch.
