Best state of play I can remember. Truly a feast of gaming goodness. Someone makes the days longer to fit it all in
I was overwhelmed by how many games I wanted to play that I forgot about Yotei Legends and that chicken man game.
Chicken man stronk
@RBMango I’m getting yotie so I’m ready for legends . Tsushima legends was fantastic
you left out the star wars racing game
Beast of a show. Very enjoyable from start to finish. So many games announced!
@StyleDrop maaate that looked soo good!
I'm really impressed feels like Playstation came to prove a point. Maybe Feeling a little competitive with Nintendo getting third parties in their directs. But no Square Enix and having your best show is a flex
@LiamCroft Thanks for the recap. But i think you forgot Brigandine Abyss, Rev. Noir, and Star Wars racing 🙏
Anyway. All solid announcement with my eyes on:
Ouch. My wallet feels hurt haha.
Damn can't wait for my lunch break right now so I can check all this out. Seems like it was a good one. Word up son.
@PuppetMaster Not forgotten, we're still writing articles!
@LiamCroft Ah ok. Sorry for the interruption 🙏
@LiamCroft nothing on Marathon??
The only thing I want to complain about is the DS2 PC port. Why? On a PS game SOP showing a PC port of an old title.
That God of War chicken game was something, I'm definitely going to have to try the first Control game now too and that John Wick game looked more Punisher PS2 than anything of recent memory. Maybe Sleeping Dogs. Castlevania looks great too, I loved Dead Cells and that looks like a cross between Dead Cells and Bloodstained Requiem of the Night. Shame there was no Eurotruck Simulator 2, I really want to see how console handles it.
Yakoh Shinobi Ops looks promising too but left me wanting a new Tenchu game, I'm not sure about that massive intrusive cone that was on the UI. Resident Evil just reminded me that I need to play another one other than the first two games, I didn't know what was happening in that trailer or why.
@LiamCroft Just curious Liam, this might be a stupid question, but when games get shadow dropped do you still get a copy beforehand to review? Or do you guys hear about it the same time as us? And does that then cause a bit of a panic in the team in terms of getting a review out soon? 😅
@LogicStrikesAgain There is the rare occasion where we'll be told ahead of time, but generally, we find out the same time as you in terms of shadow drops. We didn't know about today's new God of War game outside of the public rumours, and we don't have a copy yet.
Of course, we want to get a review out in good time, but in these situations, we just try to get them published in a timely manner. We've all got real lives outside of the job!
@GirlVersusGame Haha takin me back yakoh has me craving some sort of tenchu and last ninja at the same time, so who knows maybe it can deliver
@LiamCroft Thanks for the reply! I bet days like these are pretty demanding, but you guys did a great job in covering the whole SoP and it’s aftermath . Kudos to the team! 👏🏼
Considering how much marketing Microsoft has done for Beast of Reincarnation, it's kind of a baller move that Sony got to announce the release date.
@Enuo it's pretty wild that a Gamefreaks biggest game so far gets announced by Microsoft, release date announced by Sony, and isn't releasing on Nintendo.
Quite a lot of games shown in very interested in, also for those put off by souls like games Beast of Reincarnation will have an easy mode.
Honestly, what a showcase for Konami. Darwin’s Paradox, the return of Castlevania, the third Silent Hill game in such a short period (and honestly potentially the best looking one), liberating MGS4 and Peace Walker, and then… an anime style JRPG. Can’t say the last one really blew me away, but they convinced me that I’ll at least keep an eye on it, given that it really looks like they’re trying again.
Weird that Square wasn’t present at all.
Truthfully, I didn’t need to see Pragmata or RE again, but they’re sort of still the best looking games out of this batch to me and they’re both so soon.
Crazy that Legacy of Kain and GoW both goth new retro games announced. As someone that doesn’t particularly love GoW, Sons of Sparta looks like it’s far more up my alley. I’ll hesitate to purchase until there’s some reviews out there, given that Mario Tennis came in the mail today, but I’m curious.
Control, Kena, and Mina are all day 1s for me. I suspect the rumors may be true that a second Nintendo Direct could be incoming, given that Mina didn’t get a release date. Surely that must be soon. Glad Big Walk and Time Crisis will be on PS+.
And to end my rant, Marathon honestly looks genuinely unique. I don’t particularly like extraction shooters, but I love the style of the game. If I didn’t know it was an extraction shooter, that last trailer would’ve had me thinking it was a game with a campaign. A shame it doesn’t, but I dunno… after seeing Arc Raiders, I know the genre can give that inbetween feel with single and multiplayer games depending on how the gameplay is. I’m going to give it a shot with the server slam.
@SystemAddict We just need that Tenchu 2 level editor but online so we can try other players levels. It's cheating when you know where all of the traps are.
The PS1 was powerful for the time.
@GamingGod Yes! I'm excited for almost every announcement.
Seeing articles/discussions that suggested a rumor about a new DMC game. That woulda been bomb! But alas.
This was a great SoP. Lot of stuff to be excited about, and I also like the gradual shift to "the stuff we're announcing here is actually coming really soon!"
Edit: Forgot to add that I'm a tiny bit disappointed that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain isn't gonna be included in the new collection. Might be saving that as a separate release for PS5.
Why isn't Marathon and the slammer server weekend part of this list? @LiamCroft
@somnambulance "Weird that Square wasn’t present at all"
After Square president said there'll be no more exclusives with Sony and blame PS5 exclusives for FF XVI / VII Rebirth "low" sales, i think Sony took that statement seriously as an end of their close partnership.
So no more Square but now Sony have close partnership with Konami, which i think it looks more refreshing than what Square offers. It also reminds me of PS1 era where Konami made plenty of exclusives for the console.
Looks like Silent Hill Townfall is a playstation console exclusive
@UltimateOtaku91 GameFreaks finally break free from Nintendo / Pokemon "cage" 😁
Brilliant State of Play. Over 30 games featured, I was interested in at least 20 of them, with 10 or more super excited for. Lots of surprises too from Kena to Castlevania, John Wick to Shinobi Ops and Project Windless. A good mix of old and new games. Konami also had a super strong showing.
My only real complaint was it was missing one more big thing at the end. God of War Trilogy remake and 3rd party God of War 2D while all exciting wasn’t the “one more big thing” finish I was hoping for. I thought we were building to Corey Barlogs new game. But with so many great games shown that’s being super picky. 9/10 showcase.
Kena 2 was such a banger of an opening for the show, totally caught me off guard. I’ve watched the trailer again a few times, and it just looks so good! I also cant believe its coming out this year. Glad they partnered with Ember Lab, that Sony funding really shows in the trailer, production levels just got quadrupled 🤩
the fact we are getting metal gear 4 remaster is great , but they are remaking gow 1,2,3 ??is this something different or something corey has been working on ? or is it bluepoints new project they are helping out with?
@twitchtvpat The trilogy remake is definitely different from the main game Santa Monica Studio are working on
Somebody else also had the same theory that Bluepoint might be working on the trilogy remake, which certainly sounds very plausible, and with their expertise would be so awesome if true
No marathon is a surprise considering it’s not far away.
@logicalthinker disappointing but if I'm honest I've seen all I need to get me to purchase this day one. The less I know the more I want it.
Anything announced for PSVR 2 ?
@LogicStrikesAgain Thank you very much, we appreciate it! 😊
Best state of play ever thus far. There were so many great announcements that if little caught your interest, you may be in the wrong hobby.
TC CARSON BABY!
@Boxmonkey Marathon was there, it just hasn’t got an article yet so isn’t listed here yet either.
@themightyant Sony probably save Cory game along with Intergalactic for fall SoP.
For now, i think they want the spotlight for Saros, Marathon, Sons of Sparta, Tokon, Kena sequel, 3rd party games like RE Pragmata etc, and Konami games like Rev. Noir and SH Townfall (it seems Sony have an exclusives deal for both games).
All the PlayStation guys over the age of 30 enjoyed this state of play haha.
A great showing of games... Honestly, great to see some positivity for once.
The best thing about this show:
The vast majority of presented titles have a „2026“ as release date attached to them. There are 13 titles with a release date in the first half of this year.
(I had to ask ChatGPT to sort them for me by release date, every website lists the games as shown in thr show.)
I don’t miss the E3s where trailers were shown 2 or 3 years in advance.
Lots of already announced games and remakes/remasters/sequels to look forward to lol.
I’m getting old….. I don’t like all this fantasy stuff anymore. Slowly turning into a grumpy old man who only plays games that are more based on realism.
Standouts for me included Kena sequel, new reveals for Marvel Tokon, new Castlevania game, new JRPG from Konami, and Beast of reincarnation release date. I'm happy.
Still no chopper game. Bring back Apache Air Assault. That was sick.
Marathon is a notable omission from this list of State of Play announcements. Maybe the Push Square team needs rest before publishing their article on Marathon's upcoming 5-day Server Slam from Feb 26 to Mar 2!
The Chicken game was without a doubt my biggest surprise and am beyond hyped for! 🐓
This was a good state of play, but there wasn't that 1 special game I am hyper excited over (except maybe RE Requiem, but there was little new on that front).
The 1 special game for me this year is likely Wolverine, but that wasn't featured.
Lots of 'COULD be very good' games.
so this state of play actually brought more switch third party news than the party direct?
Wasn't the most exciting.
Wick and Kena look brilliant though.
@PuppetMaster I agree that that’s what it looks like. I’d hazard to guess Square’s cozying up with Nintendo now. It’s a shame because, honestly, Square was everywhere three years ago and now it feels like they’ve gotten far more conservative in their output.
@puddinggirl same. There were so many games I wanted in particular MGS4, Silent Hill, Saros and that new pod racer looked damn good
@LiamCroft Darwin's Paradox is missing from the list
Don't disrespect the octopus please, especially one capable of tactical action
EDIT
Thanks!
It was a good SoT for sure. A lot to play. Time and money is needed. 🫠
@themightyant
Yeah, I too wanted that "Wow" for something. None of the trailers did that for me unfortunately. One last thing giving that feeling would be great.
Brilliant state of play 👍
