Everyone’s invited to participate in Marathon’s server slam from 26th February through 2nd March, giving you an early opportunity to try out the title before you commit to the full thing.
The open preview period – available to everyone across all platforms, including PS5 – will include two zones (Perimeter and Dire Marsh) and the opening contracts for five of the foray’s factions.
Bungie doesn’t want you to see the whole thing during the preview period, so more zones will be available if you purchase the full game. Furthermore, you’ll be able to progress further with all of the factions in the final release.
Anyone who participates in the server slam will unlock a free emblem and player banner to commemorate the event. Furthermore, you’ll earn some loot to help you with your first runs in the full game.

As a Sony studio, there are also additional incentives for PS Plus subscribers, with free weapon charms based on three popular first-party games available: Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, and Helldivers 2.
Public opinion on Marathon does seem to have softened of late, and the game is currently trending reasonably well on the PS Store’s pre-order charts. Could Bungie pull this off? We’ll be able to draw a better conclusion during the server slam.

I was there for the Arc Raider's server slam so I will do the same with this one, everyone should give it a go at least.
I'll pass, especially as Resident Evil is out on the 27th and there's no chance I'm playing this or anything else for a while
The trailer sold me on this last night, visuals and gunplay are looking top tier.
Nah, I’m good. Hope everyone enjoys Marathon-in-name-only but I’ll just keep my rose-tinted glasses memories of the real Marathon games.
@UltimateOtaku91 I'm not really a multiplayer shooter guy personally, but I think the aesthetic of this game is amazing.
I’ll be there looks cool af. Have the graphics been upgraded because it looked gorgeous
I think the level of polish this game has had from the previous iteration of it is what is selling me on it. If they nail down the hardcore/casual separation its something I will jump in and out of
Holy smokes, that art design is off the charts.
Thanks but I'll pass
i'm curious about single player but it seems is just a late add-on to control damage.
This is not my type of game but I'm still tempted to check out this server slam. I genuinely think it looks fantastic.
I'm certainly not the target audience but the style of this game looked awful to me. It didn't then help that I then saw the most cringe worthy ad for the game on Youtube after.
I'll ignore the haters and give it a go to make my own mind up.
The game looks great, I really wish it wasn't an extraction shooter. In my opinion they're far too punishing and I'd rather play a game where I feel rewarded for my efforts.
I'll try this just like I tried Arc Raiders, but it will probably be a pass.
Only PS Plus members get these three weapon skins.
Does this imply that also non-members can play Marathon? Or does it mean that EVERYONE will get these skins?
@Max_the_German I think you get this if you play the test and if you're subscribed while doing so.
PS Plus is not required for the test but I think it is for the full game.
@GamingGod Yeah they made some massive upgrades to the visuals.
@Max_the_German The weapon charms are a bonus for PS Plus members.
Everyone can play the server slam.
I saw some gamplay footage yesterday as some streamers had access to some build of the game.
The visuals and graphics were interesting during play. The amount of color was a bit much and was sometimes distracting to tell whether an enemy is there or not. Not sure how much I’ll click with it but as one of the above posters said, there are so many games out there and for me ARC Raiders is filling this niche for me very nicely. Will keep an eye on it and see how it evolves
I will definitely be trying this! The game’s aesthetic have really grown on me, i think it looks pretty great!
I might give this a go as the visuals style is really good and does set it apart from anything else on the market currently. Its not my sort of game but who knows it may convince me.
This is a no brainer, for me. Great aesthetics and seemingly tight/punchy gunplay. The only X factor that we don't really know about is how they're going to monetize the live-service part of the game. Will they charge for battle passes? Just cosmetics? Will they be fairly priced? All remains to be seen, but even if they botch that stuff, this game looks like it's gonna rock.
Think I might give it a shot.
No interest in multiplayer but damn this game look gorgeous. I won't buy the game but I will pick up the art book!
no thanks i have paint that needs watching till it drys
I got in the closed beta a while back and didn't like much of the game then. It definitely looks better now than it did when I played however I'm curious if any of the gunplay changed. Before everything just blended together in this grayish color scheme; normal enemies and players alike and whoever shot first won. I'm willing to give it one more shot but I have low expectations.
@get2sammyb I thought so it looked stunning. Was it ps5 gameplay footage though
I will say that their trailer from the State of Play piqued my interest waaaay more than the ones before.
I'm definitely gonna try it, really like the art but I'm still not sold on extraction shooters.
No thanks. Not interested.
Maybe I'll try. I don't plan to play RE9 on daylight so maybe this can have opportunity in that time frame.
No thank you. Destiny 3 please
I do want to give it a try. It's a good way to form a more solid opinion on the game.
No idea where things got connected incorrectly in my brain, but I could swear art design seemed completely different earlier compared to in this last trailer.
Somehow I thought it was a different thing. Anyway, it at least looks more engaging and visually interesting than I thought it was. Not for me, but I'm more optimistic now.
It looked gorgeous!
I just "accidentally" bought the game when I tried to wishlist it. I will participate in the alpha, like I did with Destiny back in the day, and then I'll see if I want in or not.
It seems they may have sorted out the floaty and stiff movement that was shown in one of the trailers before.
May check it out.
The visuals in the trailer made it look awesome! But I don't know, does this have a campaign or is it PvP only? A campaign in this world with those trippy visuals would be incredible.
Hummm... no TNANKS. BUT NO!
No. Flashy edited trailer. Looks like a bad PS3 game.
It just doesn't look good to me. Subjective, I know, but the art style really doesn't do it for me!
