Sony has invested in RLHF research that enables computers to play video games like humans do. They used that for the Gran Turismo Sophy AI, now they are looking for other use cases.
It sounds silly to have a PS5 play itself, but it's also fun to see brand new technology and capabilities and experiment end explore with how it works.
I'd love a PS5 Pro. I'm most excited for PSVR2 graphics upgrade. Games like RE8 look great on PS5+PSVR2 but they look much better on flat screen PS5 and I bet more CPU/GPU could fix that. Most non-VR games don't need more CPU/GPU, but I'm sure some games will use it. I'll probably buy the PS5 Pro because I'm an enthusiast. Awesome!
For 20+ years Sony Studios launches new interesting games every year. 2023 was the first year, they launched almost nothing. Now 2024 looks similar... I don't care about exclusivity or established IP; I want to see something new and interesting from Sony. 2024 has just started, but nothing major is announced. Helldivers 2 looks promising; I haven't played it yet. That counts as a Sony game; it isn't exclusive, but it's Sony.
Most people who either raise kids or work with kids are familiar with the game currency phenomenon. I presume most other adults don't care too much about the leisure habits of kids.
Today's kids should enjoy what they want and make their own magical memories. I'm a gamer dad, I also have a serious career and I exercise a lot and do dad duties, take my younger kids to parks and chauffeur kids to hobbies, but I sneak in a game every now and then. Roblox isn't the type of game I'd play for myself, but I don't expect my kids to share my tastes, they are encouraged to develop their own tastes and favorites.
TLoU2 is amazing, that's one of the few games I'd want to replay. $10 upgrade path, nice!
I would like to see a new Naughty Dog game, of course. I don't care if it's a sequel or a new franchise, I'd just like to see a new game. But this is still awesome.
This game looks solid... I am disappointed this is the only big first party Sony game for all of 2023. I feel like Sony usually makes something amazing every year and this year they just didn't. Not to knock Spiderman 2, but this isn't what I'm craving.
This site pumped this game up so hard and then gives it a 7. GOTY games don't get 7.
A recent preview said, "It's difficult to envision any situation where Armored Core 6 isn't considered a resounding success."
This game isn't a resounding success.
Armored Core 5 shipped after both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 and Souls-mania had begun, and most players passed on AC5. AC5 didn't make any GOTY lists. AC6 looks like the same.
I'd like to see a PS5 native version of RDR 2. I suspect the studio had large amounts of turnover, they lost lots of key staff, and they have less ability + interest to do that.
I love the concept. This looks fun. Couldn't they make a PS5 native build for a 2023 release? I understand that this game probably doesn't need high horsepower, but I'd like higher res + framerate + loading speed.
Armored Core 1-5 never developed much of a fan base. Why would 6 change this? The AC6 preview videos look amazing, but those don't necessarily translate into a great game. I'm cheering for AC6 to be awesome. Why not? I'm a huge fan of the developer. But it seemed like most Demon's/Dark Souls fans, including me, didn't enjoy AC5, and I'm not sure AC6 will be different.
I love PSVR2. I only really love RE8. RE4 is coming soon. Some of the competitive shooters for PSVR2 look great.
Quest 3 looks amazing: pancake lenses with the super slim form factor, full augmented reality pass through, controllers without tracking rings, double GPU power, and the same fully self-contained portable nature of the Quest. I imagine my kids will get more use out of Quest 3. I would rather play RE4 on PSVR2 than the Quest version.
Maybe Sony can hire top VR talent and make a console-free standalone VR to out-Quest the Quest?
This site seems to perpetually whine about everything.
I love hearing others share their thoughts on games they've been playing and enjoying for a few months, but hearing people talk about games they haven't even played yet based on previews, is generally not interesting. People generally don't know which games will be good or not based on these previews. And why try to predict the future games that will be good? Just look at the games from the last 12-24 months that actually are good.
#1: Playroom VR. My kids absolutely loved this on PSVR1. It was a free download, but was perfect for groups of kids playing multiplayer on a single system.
#2: Persistence. There is a PS5 remaster, but no PVR2 remaster/port. IMO, this was better than Firesprite's newer Call of the Mountain.
Also: Most of the picks on the list weren't good enough to justify a port/remaster/sequel. Battlezone? I doubt large numbers of players really played that for more than a few hours.
I loved the concept of Dreams. I really expected at least a PS5 native version. I know Dreams PS4 runs on PS5 at much higher quality, but I really expected a fully PS5 native release. And PSVR2 support would have been epic...
Also, any serious game maker should be multi-platform, ideally, Windows/Mac + iOS/Android, and have options for game makers to make money. Roblox has been wildly successful.
don't care. The physical staged show was probably just not worth the money, and that's fine. We all watch game announcements on the Internet through various channels. That will continue as normal.
who cares? E3 was a show for big game related announcements and showcases. Now everyone watches that stuff through various social media services. If companies don't want to spend money for a big physical venue, that seems a good choice.
That's disappointing. I was really looking forward to this. Are there any other great PSVR2 games on the horizon? RE8 is absolutely amazing but there's nothing else I really want to play on PSVR2. Many games are great but I already played them on Quest 2 and don't want to replay on PSVR2. GT7 looks high quality but I just am not into sim racing.
I beat Cosmonious High on Quest 2 and tried the demo on PSVR2: PSVR2 definitely has slightly nicer graphics, brighter, sharper, wider FOV, and a more comfortable headset. But Quest 2 does this well enough. I don't know if it's worth replaying, but it is a great game. I hope Owlchemy Labs keeps making new games.
The State of Play format is fine. It's just several game preview videos batched together into a mini online event. This crowd seems so angry over preview videos. They are fun. Watch and move along.
It's not a surprise that Naughty Dog is making more action-adventure games. But it wasn't obvious, and it is news, that they are making a TLoU 3 and not working on a new IP. I'd love to see Naughty Dog return to their roots and make a reboot the Keef the Thief franchise.
No thanks. If players I trust start saying these are great, I'll buy them and try them out, but my suspicion is that the plastic add-ons will not add to the experience to justify them.
Warhawk? No... Personally I wouldn't be interested, and I'd bet against a Warhawk remake/remaster drawing a large audience. I'd love to be proven wrong, but if I were investing into game projects, I wouldn't invest into that.
@zebric21 I only come here to read positive news. I've got nothing to say about PSVR2, other than I can't wait to see more previews, and eventually buy one for my kids! These sites are filled with negativity, which doesn't make sense for video games.
Sony currently gives regular product updates on the PSVR2 every five months or so, and usually has fairly interesting developments to share.
The alternative is much more frequent updates, maybe every five seconds, they can just have a constant news drip, but there's only so much stuff to say. They can start repeating the same things in slightly different ways and talking about every minute spec of lint on the dev units, or every time the hardware team makes some minor tweak, but normal people would get sick of that.
@AdamNovice @Uncharted2007 PS5 hardware is great. PS5 software is great. Sony Studios games are great. Sony does a YouTube channel with new game videos every day, a blog with posts almost every day, and they do big game showcase events a few times per year. Their communication is great too.
People should just take what Sony does, and then look elsewhere.
Customers shouldn't worry about corporate strategies: just enjoy what you love, and ignore the companies that don't make amazing products. The moment Sony stops making amazing hardware and/or software, move on.
If you want to dive into corporate strategy, be a business exec or a shareholder.
Does Sony have content they are ready to show to the public? How would we know? That's for Sony to figure out. We aren't their corporate event planners?

Re: Would You Pay $100 for GTA 6?
Today's $70 games are cheaper when adjusting for inflation than almost any time in the past.
Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand
The premise of loudly voicing discontent at a lack of new games every six months is absurd. Just enjoy the stuff that is coming out.
If the new great games are made by Sony, great, if not, I will enjoy the new great stuff made by others.

Re: Poll: This Is Your Last Chance to Vote for Our PS5, PS4 Game of the Year 2023
My favorite games that I played in 2023 were released in 2022 or 2021, so they aren't eligible on this list.
I imagine next year, I will fall in love with some 2023 game releases, and it will be too late to vote for them.

Re: Persona 4 Golden (PS4) - An Utterly Engrossing RPG, and That's the Truth
Persona is very similar to Pokemon: same turn based combat, same RPG + combat mix, the Pokemon are similar to the Personas.
The story is quite different, but game combat, exploration, and overall structure are very similar.
Both are VERY grindy, which makes them relaxing to play for hours.
