Re: Tech Industry Continues to Take a Beating with Marvel's Midnight Suns Dev Latest to Be Hit by Layoffs

lacerz

I’m thoroughly enjoying Midnight Suns. Making the core MS group come from the “younger” Marvel teams like New Mutants and Runaways adds a nice flair, as I’m not as familiar with their backstories…although I do remember the Inferno series when Magik was tricked into opening a portal from Limbo so the demons could attack Earth.

MS is a great remote play game. You just have to either know the cards or have a large screen. Teeny tiny text otherwise.

Re: PlayStation Showcase Completely Divided Fan Opinion

lacerz

The show itself was fine. There were plenty of good looking games and the pace was spot on. The issue for me was it reminded me of the type of show Xbox puts out. Limited first party stuff with CGI trailers…and for the first time in at least 15 years Sony gave us an Xbox show. Thoroughly disappointing.

Re: Feature: PlayStation Showcase Biggest Winners and Losers

lacerz

Loser: PlayStation 5 early adopters. Most games have been cross gen and no clear understanding on what the future holds.

Loser: PSVR2 early adopters. No London Studio? No Half Life: Alyx? At least Beat Saber is a free upgrade, but that wasn’t an encouraging showing.

Winner: Gamers in general. This was basically what I would expect from something like the Summer Game Fest, which is great…if it weren’t a brand specific showcase.

Re: Reaction: Sony Flubs First Proper PS5 Presentation in Over 18 Months

lacerz

There were so many failures on what to show, and I’m stunned at what was shown.

Haven’s project looks like something that could end up being either a Fable Legends / Scalebound and cancelled, or a Crackdown 3 / Halo Infinite/ Redfall with a poor release.

Nothing from Bend, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Media Molecule, London Studio, Team Asobi! Bungie was there…with multiplatform games!

And VR? RE4, Arizona 2 and Beat Saber among others, but no Half Life: Alyx seems like an absolute failure.

There were some great games shown, a lot coming to all consoles, but not much PLAYSTATION.

Re: Poll: Was This Sony's Best PlayStation Showcase Yet?

lacerz

I was hoping for more on the VR front, as I just purchased a PSVR2. Beat Saber is always good, but having owned it on the PSVR, it will be more of the same with (hopefully) better controls. I was pretty disappointed in the lack of gameplay. And there were a lot of first party studios that didn't make the party. The fact that the ones that did were CGI trailers is not a good sign.

Just my .02

Re: Sony Aiming for At Least Two Big PS5 Exclusives Each Year Across 'Every Major Genre'

lacerz

Just as a FYI, 60% of a business model does not mean 60% of games are GaaS. It just means that Sony anticipates 60% of its value to come from GaaS. That sounds very hit or miss, but consider Grand Theft Auto V. A single player game with a GaaS portion that has brought in $7.7 BILLION in 10 years. That one game would go a long ways towards covering that 60% business model.

Re: GTA 6 Publisher Is Anticipating a PS5 Pro

lacerz

I’m twisted on this one. My nature is to get an upgrade, as I did with the PS4 Pro, but this generation has been different. I love my PS5, but don’t feel like I need my PS5…so why upgrade to a PS5 Pro?

I’ll be pondering this as I unbox my PS5 Pro.

Re: Games 'Big and Small' and 'from All Over the World' at PS Showcase

lacerz

I’m gonna change it up a bit and post which PS studios I anticipate hearing from:

Bend
Last game: Days Gone
Released: April 2019

London Studio
Last game: Blood & Truth
Released: May 2019

Media Molecule
Last game: Dreams
Released: February 2020

Naughty Dog
Last game: The Last of Us Part II
Released: June 2020

Sucker Punch
Last game: Ghost of Tsushima
Released: July 2020

Team Asobi
Last game: Astro’s Playroom
Released: November 2020

Insomniac was left off because we know Spider-man 2 is slated for this year. I know some of these studios were also releasing compilations, updates, dreams games, and PC releases. However, I believe that these studios will be the ones we hear from.

🤞

Re: Another Game as a Service on PS5 Is Being Abandoned

lacerz

The GaaS trend really needs to go away. The limited time I have for gaming would only be able to support one GaaS, and knowing my history with the likes of Destiny and The Division, my interest would wane after 6-12 months. I can’t imagine trying to support two at the same time, much less 10 all at once.

Re: Where to Buy PSVR2

lacerz

I went ahead and dropped for one and the Collective Minds stand. Giving my son my PSVR and all of its nonsensical cordage, flakey padding and drifting Moves.

I was going to get an Amazon Astro, but my invite was outside of the $999 price range and they bumped it up to $1,599 instead of $1,449. The PSVR2 is a bargain in comparison.

Re: Poll: What's the Best PlayStation Startup Sequence?

lacerz

I rented a PS and Saturn from Blockbuster when they launched. I was leaning Sega because of my preference for Genesis over the SNES (and the maker of the Walkman was making a console now? Okaaaay…), but PS gave me chills when I booted it up to play Resident Evil. I rented D for the poor Saturn, so it wasn’t apples to apples, but PlayStation had me from the launch screen.

Re: Xbox Boss Admits Microsoft Can't 'Outconsole' PS5

lacerz

“It's not true that if we go up and build great games, that you'll see console shares go up massively.”

I completely disagree. At the launch of this gen I seriously considered purchasing a Series S to keep the PS5 aesthetic. I figured I could play the Xbox catalog via GamePass without having to invest in another ecosystem. However, the lack of games…great or otherwise…kept me from making the purchase. Now, three years later, I stand by my initial decision to hold off.

The other issue impacting Xbox console sales is due to Xbox releasing its games on GamePass for PC, essentially negating the need for an Xbox console.

We’ll see how things stand when Starfield releases…but if Redfall was in development longer than Starfield and both were delayed to 2023…I honestly don’t see Starfield releasing this year unless it’s in a similar state as Redfall. Over 1,000 planets and this is launching in 4 months? Let’s see what they show in June, but the skepticism is high for that one.

Re: Activision Poised to Pocket a Cool $3 Billion if Xbox Buyout Breaks Down

lacerz

There’s so much due diligence and background research that goes into these types of M&A acquisitions BEFORE the announcement is even made, you have to wonder how many exclusives Xbox could have made over the past 12-24 months with 10% of this money invested on internal development. Instead, Xbox exclusives have been minimal, to be kind about their lack of anything relevant. I’d be extremely disappointed if I were invested in Microsoft’s ecosystem. Thank God I’m not.

Re: Microsoft Dealt Major Blow as UK Blocks Activision Buyout

lacerz

Interesting. Surprisingly, all those “10 year” deals appear to be a factor. 1) They showed that Microsoft recognized the issue, 2) they capped the length they would play nice to 10 years and 3) it would require the CMA to regulate and enforce. Blocking the deal was the easier solution.

Fascinating.
