Re: Sony Shipped 4.5 Million PS5's Last Quarter, Almost Five Times More Than Xbox Series X|S

lacerz

We have a roadmap to Xbox sales. The Take-Two announcement that allowed us to subtract Sony’s numbers to come to Xbox sales between 24-25 million and then year by year growth and decline. Year two saw a 63% increase followed by back to back 30% declines.

Year 1 - 5.4 million
Year 2 - 8.8 million (63% growth)
Year 3 - 6.2 million (30% decline)
Year 4 - 4.3 million (30% decline)
Total - 24.7 million

@LifeGirl

Numbers are fun!

Full-year (12 months ended March 31, 2024)

Net sales: ¥11.3 trillion ($72.2 billion, up 12% year-on-year)
Operating income: ¥1.04 trillion ($6.6 billion, up 5%)
Game & Network Services net sales: ¥4.3 trillion ($27.5 billion, up 17%)
Game & Network Services operating income: ¥290.2 billion ($1.9 billion, up 16%)

Q4 (3 months ended March 31, 2024)

Net sales: ¥2.8 trillion ($17.9 billion, up 9%)
Operating income: ¥203.3 billion ($1.3 billion, up 115%)
Game & Network Services net sales: ¥1.1 trillion ($7.03 billion, up 2.2%)
Game & Network Services operating income: ¥135.8 billion ($868 million, up 172.5%)

Sony should be really concerned about this.

Re: PS5 Sales Reach 59.3 Million as Sony Falls Just Short of Fiscal Year Forecast

Year over year increases are better than year over year declines. Xbox followed up a 30% decline in hardware sales with another 30% decline in hardware sales. That means the PS5 is most likely getting close to outselling it 3:1. It makes sense why Microsoft is looking at moving Xbox games to other consoles.

EDIT: Based on the numbers, it sounds like Sony has around 4.5 - 5 million PlayStations sitting on store shelves each quarter. They sold through 50 million by December 9 and shipped 4.5 million from January 1 to March 31, which leaves a 4.8 million gap to reach 59.3.

Re: This Year's Call of Duty May Not Be Included in Xbox Game Pass After All

This is what happens when you spend over $70 billion on an acquisition that gets litigated based on antitrust laws. Xbox is no longer a fringe aspect of Microsoft. It is now front and center for all shareholders who want to know how are you going to make money on this deal and why are you segregating software from Nintendo and Sony?

It reminds me of the saying, “Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it.”

The Xbox faithful got it. Hope it was worth getting.

Re: Gaming Subs Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Aren't Growing At All

lacerz

GamePass is one of the reasons Tango was shuttered. Two million players (user engagement) in the first three months, but poor sales because it was an Xbox exclusive released on GamePass Day One. Despite the user engagement talk, it’s obviously about dollars spent, and if subscriptions only grew by 2% across all services 22-23 and 1% 23-24, it’s definitely not sustainable.

Re: Many, Many More Xbox Ports Plotted for PS5, New Speculation Suggests

lacerz

All the posters disclaiming this as “rumors and speculation” were doing the same thing before the last Xbox to PS announcement. Phil appeased their tiny brains by saying that Starfield was not a part of the four games which had been leaked but not confirmed.

Well, the four games have released and have done well enough that the Xbox “vault” is now open. Xbox is now a third party publisher with a console that may have timed exclusivity. Xbox Owners can use GamePass to get all first party titles at subscription prices. PS owners can pick and choose what is worth buying a license for. The caveat is that PS owners also get to pick and choose from the PlayStation catalog, which has always been much stronger.

Re: Sea of Thieves Reportedly a 'Key Test' for More Xbox Games on PS5

I think we all know this is BS. Microsoft is making Xbox games multi console and they’re trying to not piss the Xbox core off by setting BS conditions that have already been met or exceeded just to save face with those that invested in their ecosystem. An ecosystem that is no longer needed with GamePass.
