I'd buy it for sure, if it had a good library at good price. I live in Argentina where everything is expensive as hell, and I'm very happy with EA Access at the moment. I'd buy Gamepass if I had an Xbox.
I bought a new 3ds recently. I'm loving it so far. Vita is much more powerful, but with that expensive memory cards (even more here in Argentina) and lack of catalog, I went for the 3ds all the way.
Now bring new Virtua Fighter, new Outrun (on enhanced pseudo 2d), new Space Harrier, new Golden Axe and that new Daytona for PS4. Panzer Dragoon would be great too.
I'm pretty sure they know they job. Of course the game wouldn't look as good as on PS4, but remember games like Uncharted 3 or The Last of Us on the previous generation and how good they were. The Switch is more powerful than the PS3 and I think it could get a nice versiof of HZD. Only problem that I can think of is the limited storage space, I think they should require a big sd card for games like this.
It's more like a PC as it run Windows. But what I'd really like to see is a console that run both PS4 and Xbox One games. It should be posible with the right software, as they are both very similar on hardware. But I guess we are years way from that as it would need a lot of reverse enginering or leaked documents.
@hi_drnick This isn't 2d trying to be 3d. The 80s games as Outrun worked on pseudo 3d, projecting the road as lines and segments and scaling 2d sprites todo look 3d. This is full realtime 3d.
Here's antes article on pseudo 3d racing games: http://www.extentofthejam.com/pseudo/
New Virtua Fighter, new Panzer Dragoon, that new Daytona USA ported to consoles, new Virtua Cop and House of the Dead for VR or ds4 motion controls without VR, Shenmue Collection and a partnership with American Laser Games to make new FMV games. That, and partnership with Squareenix to make a good Sonic JRPG with isometric view. I'm sure it's all that.
A good game with a lot of bugs? Like a lot of AAA these days. Another reason to not buy anything on launch day. Better wait and buy the finished product, and maybe cheaper.
Blue State works pretty good with motion sensing on the DS4. Obviously with move or VR it could get better, but I think a lot of us would buy the game to play with DS4 and would never buy a move or PSVR.
@Neolit I've just read you, thanks to the new notifications. My game went buggy on year 3, I can't remember every specific bug because it's been a year now, but the most frustrating one was with the chain puzzle. It went to a cutscene, then the chain disappeared. From there, every time I walked out, the game kept showing the same scene and I couldn't do anything. My fault was not noticing the bug before overwriting my only savegame, but I contacted double fine and they couldn't solve the problem, and I also read on the forums that a similar bug was present on the PC version at that time.
I love Day of the tentacle as every Lucasarts game, but I heard that the ps4 port is slow. The Grim Fandango one was really buggy. I hope this is better.
The Batman game is broken. I regret buying it as it came out. Telltale support answered my requests and released a patch, but I don't feel like playing the game again just to test if it's any better. I don't think I'll be buying their games again without being sure they finish them first.
Do you believe that standard ps4 will get well optimized games after this? I doubt the Next AAA games will make the effort to get the most of the standard mode. I think they'll just leave us with choppy framerates and low resolutions and Focus on the Pro. I hope I'm wrong.
@Kidfried You can create an US account and buy PSN cards on Amazon, even if you live on the other side of the world. You just have to give a fake adress.
I don't expect seeing well optimized games like Arkham City on old ps4s if this gets out. If you ever read a Digital Foundry article, you know how many effort developers put on getting the most out of the existing hardware, tweaking LoD changes and fine tuning everything to bring the better posible experience on limited hardware. If they target two systems, I'm pretty sure they'll bring the best version to the stronger one and just make it barely run on the old one.
@BAMozzy Console games are not that flexible for a reason. Developers work on a locked specshardware to get the most out of it. Naughty Dog games are an example of excellent optimization. 3rd party games often lack that grade of optimization, but we always see developers working hard on what to leave and what to sacfrifice to bring the best optimized version of the game posible. It's not as easy as "compile again, leave graphics settings available". If you see Arkham Knight, or even The Order 1886, you'll see they are strugling to being the best visuals for an specific hardware. That would be an extra job with two PS4s with different specs.
@BAMozzy Also, as someone stated before, incremented horsepower will make developers force the system again, reducing fps again to bring richer visuals. You will be playing low fps games with great visuals on ps4k and unplayable, ugly games on ps4.
@BAMozzy The rumors are that NX will run games at 900p. I highly doubt any console on the near future will be able to run games at native 4k. Nx will also be able to stream 4k video. I guess, with some other people, that's the way that Sony will/should take with ps4k. 4k video, same games will be a a new offer and don't upset existing fanbase. Just look how much hate this rumour created here, where we already love our Ps4. Why upset fanbase who knows about fps and resolution to give the rest something they don't know they're getting?
@BAMozzy Long post, but I have a short answer. Sales are good, there's no reason to bring a new system. As long as people buys ps4s, nobody cares if their games look equal or better than high end pcs (they sure don't look like on low end pcs, just check Digital Foundry, basically the games look a little less good than on high end pcs, and at less framerate). Just look the original wii,it selled a lot being the less powerful system. Ps4 is the most powerful console now, and the best selling one too. Most people can't count pixels or fps, they just want a game that looks and play good.
I've searched for some examples of framerates on previous gen. I'm sure we didn't have an always locked framerate then. I guess developers prefer more refined visuals over framerate, maybe becuase they sell more than the later. This gen isn't different. We'd need a lot more power to have richer visuals AND best framerates, so they have to chose.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-mass-effect-PS3-face-off Alas, there are still familiar weak points; drops to 15FPS are commonplace during sequences filled with transparent alpha effects, plus major hiccups down to 10FPS are possible when entering the Mako buggy. There also seems to be an issue with simply starting idle dialogue with squad members, which often causes a sharp stutter on each platform.
Less demanding moments see the Xbox 360 game frequently operate between 35-40fps, while PS3 frame-rates often fall between 28-32fps in similar situations.
The target frame rate is 30FPS - although jumping from a high point and gliding across the more central, heavily populated roads of New York City is a very easy way to drag that down to 25FPS on both HD consoles.
Give it a redesign, make it smaller, add bluray/streaming on 4k, bundle it with psvr, I don't care. Just don't make it more powerful for games, because that will upset existing userbase and leave them with lacklustre versions of ps4k games, if they work at all on regular ps4.
I've played Grim Fandango remastered on ps4 and had to leave it unfinished because of game breaking bugs. I've read that Day of the Tentacle has technical problems, with big loading times on some screens. Anybody tried it on ps4?
