Re: Game of the Year: Robert's Top 5 PS5 Games of 2025

Before all the hate from some quarters that a Square Pusher would dare to plough the depths of fanboyism to rate a PlayStation exclusive above their beloved third party french RPG that they feel some strange loyalty too as it was on Gamepass… I want to applaud the diverse entries that are turning up on these lists so far.

And before the retort… one of your unquestionably objective Pure Xbox writers just rated South of Midnight as their best game of the year, and therefore above Expedition 33, so don’t even bother complaining that a game of Death Stranding 2’s quality was rated similarly.

Started Ultra Age last night. It’s a pretty average character-action game in all honesty but wanted to find something relatively short to finish off my years trophy hunting with a round number.

Also, I’m still on Resident Evil: Revelations! My co-op partner sent me some homework to study last night, as we hit our umpteenth roadblock during yesterdays session šŸ˜…

Re: Going Platinum #3: Tales from the Borderlands

I’m currently in the process of trying to plat Borderlands 2 as it goes (the level grind to 50 is real) btw.

After god-knows how many hours I’ve put into BL2, I am pretty over it atm… but, I have enjoyed it and do plan on play’n (& plat’n) all other Borderlands games over the coming years (including the Tales of… instalments). I’ve heard loads of good things about this first one but not so much about its sequel. Might play this first one as a Christmas wind-down while it’s at the forefront of my mind šŸ¤”

@get2sammyb yeah I get you, it did look like MS were all-in back in 2022… and if they’d remained with that all-in mentality ie. we’ll buy up the industry and then have all games exclusive to our platform, I’m sure it would’ve been the death knell for PlayStation.

I guess that we didn’t foresee how some major expenditure would bring Xbox more under the focus of Sauron’s eye though. That and the need for major tech corporations to invest all available funds into AI caused there to be a complete turnaround in the expected outcome.

There really needs to be a dramatisation made about all this, it’s ripe for the picking!

The amount of fumbles that have resulted from Microsoft buying ActiBliz is actually quite impressive. I remember vividly the jubilation amongst the Xbox fanbase and the concern within PlayStation circles when the acquisition was first announced… but wow.

Cries of ā€œLet us competeā€ replete with documentation showing Microsoft execs to be gleeful at the thought of having their foot on PlayStation’s throat due to the potential of ā€œspending them out of businessā€ā€¦ but not only did it lead to massive lay-offs, studio closures and going full third party, but now the unstoppable force that is CoD is staring to look a lot more ā€˜stoppable’. Incredible!

Re: 'It's a Huge Upgrade': PS5 Pro Poised to Improve Massively in 2026

@windxtravelerx in fairness to you, I was thinking pretty much along the same lines until this whole drastic increase in the price of RAM. No one knows what the future holds but it could (and probably will) cause the PS6 (as well as all of its competitors) to be priced considerably higher than the estimates that have been flying around these past 12 months or so.

I hope it doesn’t have this kind of impact but I’m a realist.. and at Ā£569.99 the Black Friday price for a Pro was just too good to pass up. Consoles and PC components may never (or for a long time at least) be this inexpensive again.

I picked one up over Black Friday. What with Ā£130 off, PSSR2 around the corner and AI looking like it will majorly impact the price of PlayStations (as well as it’s competitors) for the foreseeable future, it just felt like a great price at the right time.

Been looking into the various games that have a big boost from the Pro and I’m actually surprised by how noticeable it is in many third party games (the impact it has on first party is well-documented)… and it’s only going to improve (probably quite drastically with PSSR2). It’s already feeling like a prudent purchase.

A fair bit of co-op this weekend. Finishing off the Tiny Tina dlc for Borderlands 2 today and then some raid mode on Resident Evil: Revelations tomorrow. After quite a few hours (and months in regards to the latter šŸ˜…) on both, it looks like we’re creeping up on the finishing line of both.

I then have next week off and am gonna try and fit Psychonauts and Risk of Rain 2 in for 50 plats for the year.
