Per a recent dev interview (reported on by Eurogamer), the devs knew for ages that the game would never be a satisfactory "Bloodlines 2" but management refused to rebrand it, pretty much setting them up to fail.
A VtM or general World of Darkness grand strategy game, on the other hand, could be an interesting concept.
@lazarus11 tbf Doug Bradley is getting old, it's nearly 40 years since the first movie.
Random trivia: back in NES / SNES games a US dev called Color Dreams got the license for Hellraiser and later licensed the Wolfenstein 3D engine for it; the project fell through and to recoup the engine licensing costs they made Super 3D Noah's Ark and sold it in Christian bookshops under the "Wisdom Tree" brand.
As an aside, the platinum trophies for Team Ninja's Nioh games (as well as their Final Fantasy Niohlike) don't require clearing those titles' hardest content (there's no damn way I'd have got the plats for both Nioh & Nioh 2 if they did).
SE keep making these because, overall, they keep making them money. The First Soldier lasting a year or less was an outlier. Even the godawful Ever Crisis just had a 2nd anniversary event tho' whether it'll actually last long enough to get to the end of the OG FF VII story (it's currently up to the end of disk 1), ever mind BC / DoC is anyone's guess, and the way it treated Advent Children was a joke. The previous Dissidia mobage lasted 6 / 7 years, Record Keeper's English-language service was shut down after 7 years & is apparently still going in Japan, or at least was at the end of last year.
@8thDoctor that's Krile from FF V. And yeah, the goth girl is Gaia from Shadowbringers — makes a change from putting Y'shtola in every crossover I suppose, though it's amusing how her "real world" outfit is not much different from her garb in her original appearance. Kinda surprised no-one from X-XII, tho' they're maybe being held over for post-launch additions if the game lasts that long.
@SoulsBourne128 @Dalamar Yeah, it got shut down a year or two ago after being online for about 7 years (in Japan; 6 years rest of the world). It was subtitled Opera Omnia & only really had the name & some backstory / lore in common with the fighting games.
It was a turn-based RPG with gacha mainly for weapons, based around assembling teams of FF characters from pretty much all the games (numbered games up to XV plus most of the spin-offs from said games, Tactics, Crystal Chronicles, Type-0, World of Final Fantasy, Stranger of Paradise). The story was a meandering mess and mostly nonsense, frankly.
Backlog aside, I probably won't be done with Trails Beyond the Horizon by then, and tbh Nioh games are the sort of thing I'd wait for the "complete edition" to turn up in a sale — they're solid action games, but with a level of jank, and some absolutely horrendous itemisation — wouldn't be too far off the mark to call them looter-slashers.
@KidRyan AFAIK it just means new text languages. Yakuza Kiwami 1 & 2 on PS4 only launched with EN text; the Switch 2 / PS5 / Xbox series versions are adding additional European / Latin American languages.
TBH I'm not gonna buy these again as I've already bought both games twice (PS4 & Steam). Kiwami 3 on the other hand . . . gods, I already have 4 copies of that game (Ryu ga Gotoku 3 on PS3, Yakuza 3 on PS3, Yakuza 3 Remastered on PS4 & Steam).
FYI Rikiya wasn't recast, they just used his VA's face. Problem with that, of course, is his VA played a different character in 6 and had his face used for that, too . . .
@LogicStrikesAgain Someone in the comments at Gematsu on the trailer (which I probably lost more than a few sanity points reading) claimed embargo ends 25th.
About the only "convenience feature" I use in the FF versions that have them is the speed-up (particularly in IX). There are some fights in VII-R that frequently have me raging & I still haven't beaten the superboss that was added in Intergrade, but I also have a serious bloody-minded streak & it's extremely rare that I'll even take a "retry this fight on lower difficulty" option in games that offer it.
In the specific case of Remake Intergrade I'm just missing the dress collection & ch. 4 bike chase achievements for the plat anyway (the PS4 version is one of my dozen or so platinums). Rebirth on the other hand . . .
Will probably be checking it out if it gets a demo or good reviews. I kind of gave up on Hellraiser after the fourth and fifth movies, which were just bad (and everything I'd heard indicated the later ones were worse, with Barker uninvolved and Bradley just in it to pay the bills). The recent reboot was . . . OK, I suppose. Better than Bloodlines and Inferno, anyway.
@Lowdefal I ended up fighting Rathalos Extreme on-level in FF XIV rather more times than I'd have liked owing to repeatedly drawing the trial in mentor roulette.
@DonkeyFantasy There have been a whole bunch of trailers with the English dub, mostly character introductions — most recently for Tita and Zin a bit over a week ago. Most can be found on Gematsu or the r/falcom subreddit.
I also find the voice styles used in English dubs of shounen-anime and shounen-anime style JRPGs (and Trails falls squarely into that category) generally irritating so play with JP audio wherever possible: because it's a foreign language to me the unnaturalness of it all isn't so immediately grating.
Hmm . . . still on the final dungeon of Azure (picked up Cold Steel 1 & 2 in a recent sale & I see that the 3 & 4 double-pack for PS5 is in the current PS store sale) so this likely won't be a day 1 buy for me; maybe I'll have caught up by the time SC remake happens.
@Dalamar Hey, at least you're nearly caught up with Kiseki, given Kai isn't even out in English yet. I'm still on chapter 3 of Trails from Zero having finished Sky 3rd last week, so a loooong way to go.
Apropos of the article, might pick up the Technos compilation some day, but nothing else really catches my eye.
@stoogl Interesting. I didn't know that. Reminds me in a way of the localised Yakuza "remasters" where after fights you would receive a <random adjective> <item or amount of money>, e.g. "a slightly battered 500 yen" because it was not much harder, and funnier, than coding to use the correct English article ("a" / "an" or none at all) for the item.
I played Morrowind and Oblivion a crazy amount back in the day, but never actually finished the Oblivion main story & kinda burnt out on it. Never got into Skyrim.
Probably not gonna be a day 1 for me — I'm way behind on this series, just finished a replay of the PC port of Sky FC & now about halfway through SC, which I either bounced off or got sidetracked from last time I played it (about 5 years ago going by the datestamps on the save files).
Also further to @Pandalulz, without spoilering anything, Sky FC ends, not exactly on a cliffhanger, but in such a way as you're likely to want to start SC almost immediately, & even given the large number of shared assets, it'll likely be a while before that too gets remade.
@Dalamar The creatives responsible for the FF VII remake project are presumably still working on the 3rd game in that, if FF IX remake is real they will likely have nothing to do with it.
Since the only reference to a "River City Renegade" game predating this announcement that I could find is a Youtube video of a Kunio fangame, might be worth pointing out that (going on the plot description) River City Renegade in this compilation is a localisation of Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun, the first Kunio game on the Super Famicom (so released before, but set after, Kunio-tachi no Banka which was localised as River City Girls Zero).
@thedevilsjester @LavenderShroud Duty Support is currently for all of the original relaunch main story content (up to level 50) but won't get you through the later content, because with a few exceptions in the last couple of expansions, it isn't extended to 8-player "trial" battles and there's a whole bunch of those you need to do to progress past the end of the "Realm Reborn" storyline.
Likewise, I mainly play solo & run instances through the "duty finder" auto-matching system, the only thing you really need preformed groups for are the harder content like "extreme" trials and "savage" raids, and story-wise those are the figments of a diseased imagination and don't, in-universe, actually happen.
@Dalamar Possibly means it's the first mobile game in the Like a Dragon franchise ("Dragon Among Men" here represents 人中之龍, a Chinese paraphrase of Ryu ga Gotoku which has been used for previous releases of the games in that language) that's been made under licence rather than internally developed. You're quoting a machine translation from Chinese, remember.
@Burntbreadman That seems a really weird way to parse it since that expression, at least in the translation by Gematsu and its paraphrase above, seems to be pretty clearly referring to what Kaneko is working on after leaving Atlus.
@Littlejack "Middle Earth Enterprises" (formerly Tolkein Enterprises) is a holding company for the adaptation rights to The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit, which Embracer Group bought from the Saul Zaentz corporation in one of its recent acquisition sprees, so yes.
@Bunchesopuppies I don't believe we ever got the fighting game or dating sim with Nep characters that one of the original series creators once talked about wanting to make. But I haven't actually played any of the game since 4 Goddesses Online so I might well have missed them.
Wow, the Kunio-kun collection is discounted for the first time in . . . well, since I've had it wishlisted, anyway. Might finally picked that up... being kinda interested, but not to the point of being ready to pay £30 for a bunch of emulated Famicom games.
Sigh.... bit of a clickbaity headline: "Changes the ending" is hyperbole for "one line of dialogue in the English loc script got tweaked to be a more direct translation." It being changed this close to the release of rebirth suggests there's a callback to it that would be missed or make less sense with the original localised version.
hmm, might finally get this then, particularly if someone in the UK has the physical edition for sale; was paying attention to it on and off for years while it was being developed on PC but never actually bought it for one reason or another.
@Drago201 Swings & roundabouts, Nintendo / Xbox / PC players had to wait over 3 weeks for confirmation that this collection was coming to anything other than PS5.
@Petto MGS1 on PS3 was basically the original disc images running under an emulation layer (even to the point you had to go into a system menu to switch discs or switch controller ports); the fact this is cross-platform (which we didn't know for sure before today) at least indicates it's not using a proprietary emulator (like, say, Castlevania Requiem does) but yeah, likely to be a pretty basic port.

Previous Nioh series DLC chapters had side missions with characters from other Team Ninja games showing up as bosses, so something like that is also a possible.
@MattBoothDev Day 1 patch is 300 meg. I'm not sure if the person you're replying to is somehow getting this game mixed up with another forthcoming high-profile title & insinuating it isn't getting a physical release at all, or what.
@djlard this isn't the 5th gen any more where entire games being 700 meg or less was normal, 300 meg is only "huge as hell" if you're still on dial-up.
@Nepp67 This one is in a kind of weird situation like that: far as I can tell from various interviews, the English localisation team heavily worked over the raw translation from the original JP script, and then the EN script was pretty much back-translated into Japanese, or at least the original script heavily revised based on the EN version, and the English voicework was used as the basis for character animations, lip-syncing etc.
While I can't stand most English JRPG voicetracks, this one, like FF XII, evidently had a competent voice director who repeatedly reminded the cast that they weren't dubbing a shounen anime.

Re: PS5 Exclusive Ghost of Yotei Is Just Two Weeks Away, So Here's a Gorgeous Cinematic Trailer
@graymamba I found a thread on Reddit about why Erika Ishii (actor playing Atsu) got so much hate, although simply reading their Wikipedia page gave a fairly major hint:
https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/1fq8z7w/what_is_going_on_with_voice_actress_erika_ishii/
EDIT: see also https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2024/09/26/ghost-of-yotei-voice-actor-erika-ishii-harassed-trolls/amp/
