The answer is really simple.. Sony is chasing easy money especially since their live service plans aren't exactly working out and they spent an awful lot of money on Bungie because they thought it was an instant easy road to success in that space.. except gamers knew before the buyout that live service nonsense as we know it today can't survive because we simply can't play 2 different new games like that a year because we can't commit to 4 rotating LS games a year and the lack of content makes that an easier choice, then on the flip side the lack of people spending means no content for the games.
Sony needs to start enhancing these ports. While I appreciate them and buy them I don't think a PC version that looks visually identical EXCEPT it's able to run at higher resolution and frame rates is enough. Them doing all the ports might be a symptom of basically everything being a PS4 game deep down so I guess time will tell.
I'm not even talking about anything crazy, id just like to see the ability to really crank things higher than the PS5 quality mode level. Like I'm God of Ragnarok, don't get me wrong it's impressive but why not push shadow rendering distance out so I never see transitions from low res shadows? Why not enhancements to things like lighting or reflections etc? They don't even necessarily need to add an RT mode in, they could just offer higher quality versions of what is already there but again it's all the same as PS5 quality mode just being rendered at a final output resolution potentially higher which is different than higher quality levels of the effects themselves.
This game is pretty on PC and runs great. I have it maxed out at 4k DLAA (no frame gen) and I'm usually around 110 fps.
My frame times are absolutely exceptional, I had a 20 min capframex performance capture yesterday that didn't have a single frame time spike, not even a variance beyond 2ms and always well under the time necessary to stay at 110 fps or higher. That level of consistency is.. incredibly rare. So that's why I won't really knock Sony for not doing what I talked about with higher quality levels but that doesn't mean I don't want them because I do and clearly on the right hardware the games could look twice as good and still run at 4k60-90fps DLAA with no issue and higher with DLSS Quality... Let use stretch those legs Sony come on!

I can't think of any but I think think of Sony doing it not only vs other consoles in the last 15 years but also to keep 3rd party games and content off PC which doesn't even make business sense when you consider Sony has been the #1 console for all but 1 generation since they got into the game.
Sony is guilty of all the sins people call Microsoft out on but give Sony a free pass. Lastly buying Activision isn't exactly a slimy move when you also consider Sony only cares because of COD... A franchise that wouldn't be had the 360 not launched with COD2 and a franchise that Microsoft is releasing everywhere anyway.

I'm pretty sure Sony would love the $360,000,000 a month Microsoft pulls from Gamepass subs every month but I also know Sony can't afford the upfront cost to get the service rolling which is substantial. Being the richest company in the world has its benefits and Gamepass isn't going anywhere lol.
Also sure id love Sony to have a Gamepass type subscription too and I just cancelled my ps+ premium because it wasn't even close to worth it. I had used the loophole before Sony announced and stacked up 2 years of subscription time with about a year of it ending up free.

Best? I found this game very VERY janky feeling compared to top shooters like Pavlov (even the original which is ancient) or Contractors or a number of other shooters.
I found this game to just feel like it's missing control refinement and also just basic useability style tweaking because it's not intuitive if you go into it thinking r6 siege but visually it is also pretty mid tier as is the audio and amount of content in the game as well.
There are just way better shooters is what I'm saying here and I'm hung up on that word best you got up there.
PS5 needs more VR titles I would know I've had a psvr2 since launch and I have 2 games. On PC I have like 100 and I'd love to use my psvr2 more but not on mid tier games that I can get on PC/Quest for less money and have access to a much larger player base.
Also I can't wait for the scene to figure out how to read psvr2 controller data on PC lol. Those displays are nice, OLED+VR is god tier. They can display a stereo image on the displays but they can't read controller inputs yet and likely not for a significant amount of time... Sigh

How about Sony even with inflation still making a profit on each console they sell. They also just removed more of the heatsink and are risking cooling, performance and longevity to make more profit. Removing 1 copper heat pipe is worth enough money over 250k units to add 1/6 more profit per unit and that's not including the price hike.

I can't disagree about naughty dog and combat... It just feels average at best and if you use a critical eye then it's below average.
The stealth isn't great either... There are multiple sections in TLOU2 that are supposed to be gun fights but I got through all of them without shooting once and it's not because the stealth system is good, it's because it's pretty bad due to its simplicity.
The ai even on the hardest difficulty is very easy to get around and that's any enemy or even large groups in areas where you are stuck in a choke point and could never really stealth your way out.. but I always did
So basically the "good" content was put on hold for a "bug" that they found at the last second on sony consoles so they delayed it for every platform and all we get is the minor content in the meantime.
I have a feeling that console return policies might be so limited due to contract with publisher's and hopefully both console adopt the steam style refund policy.
I know Microsoft already let's you get a refund on a game or even movie but they limit it to 2 per year. Sony is... stricter.
It would be very pro consumer for both to change. Obviously you can't use the 2 hours as a rental period but as long as you don't abuse the refunds then it should be fine and the first console maker to make that change will definitely earn +10 goodwill because it will probably push the other company to do the same.
I wouldn't be sure the ps5 version has it..it's likely but you can never be sure.
I just can't wait till Microsoft implements their version of "DLSS" which will be open source so devs can tweak it to make it better and better. Just like they did with Tress-fx. It looks much better than hairworks and uses like 15% less resources and that's because it's open source.
@RazielReaper director's leave studio's mid game all the time, it just doesn't get reported on unless it's super high profile. It also doesn't speak to the game itself. A game is not made by 1 person and while a director can shape a game they don't really set it's actual direction unless they are an independent studio. 1st party studio's work different than independent ones. That's why so many people at big companies leave to form new indie studio's.

I bought both these games on series x but also installed them on a base xbox and an x1x and the file sizes were all different because I got different versions based on the console.
It's entirely possible for the base ps4 and oddly (on the surface) not the base xbox holding it up.
People forget the xbox has 1 more cpu core dedicated to games. They did that right when they killed the kinect because that was essentially a core handling kinect which was always active.
The Xbox also has slightly faster cpu clocks and ondie esram that can effectively be used as cache for the gpu even if it isn't very much cache it certainly wouldn't hurt to have.
It just sucks that those of us playing on PC have to sit through another delay because the ancient base consoles can't handle this game. I can't imagine wanting to even play it on either of them. It's going to be low resolution, probably have a terrible draw distance, low res textures, shadows and on and on and on. I'd imagine it will look worse than the pc version on low at 900p.
I'm gonna go ahead and take ubi soft a word for it... Sony might not be lying when they say the games "run" but that doesn't mean you can play them.
Wonder how many more games that connect to online services also "run" but can't actually be played? Between this and the fact that the ps5 isn't running on genuine RDNA2 architecture is some bad news right before launch.

Welcome to like 8 years ago... Microsoft has had xbox rewards forever at this point. I haven't paid for xbl in 6 years. I'm going to end up making my first payment in March 2021 simply because gamepass ultimate is $5 more expensive.

I'm primarily a pc gamer but I own all 3 consoles and when I do pvp gaming I do it on my xbox because pc has cheaters and I find xbl to be a better service.
That being said after hearing about what sony is doing in chats and even other things like wiping everyone's wishlist... It's weird and also insane. So I'm glad xbl just happened to matchmake better and have less issues...
If I was primarily a playstation gamer when you combine this with the old psn hack and also how juicy this new data would be for hackers it would give me serious pause on whether I planned on not only buying a ps5 but also on whether I would even keep ps4 as my go to machine...
It's mostly the HDR. Everything else looks fine but not "next gen". Adding some low res ray tracing and better models (mostly the texture itself) is PC 2 years ago but worse... We won't see any of the systems actual potential until 2021. Console launches are not showcases no matter how much we want them to be. Stuff always gets much better.

@Carl-G you bought a sony 4k tv... I'm genuinely sorry. More research was needed on that purchase. They buy their OLED panels from LG but LG keeps the best ones plus LG has the better software. If it's an LCD they bought from Samsung but samsung is done with LCD and again they kept the best ones and sold the rest wholesale so it could have gone in a sony or a Walmart brand...
The moral here is if you buy a TV it should be either LG or Samsung otherwise you get an interior panel and inferior software to drive it.

Definitely waiting for them to do a redesign and price cut. My gaming PC is less noticable... It's hidden right beside the entertainment center and dead silent from 2 feet away with a 3 fan 2080ti ftw3 in it and 6 case fans! Not a peep.
So that would mean it will last 6-7 hours. When my elite 2 lasts 60 hours or a regular Xbox controller lasts 30-40 in rechargable AA's I'd like to think Sony could squeeze a better battery in there.
I literally just bought a new ps4 controller this past Thursday and I get 3-4 hours out of a full charge which is the same I got out out my launch controller, my pro launch controller and the 2 other controllers I had I gotta say I really expected better.
The battery in my phone is smaller than the one in the PS4 controller but has triple the mAh. That's ridiculous.
Had publishers raised the price to $70-80 6 years ago like they should have then maybe we wouldn't have such BS dlc practices.
Keeping prices at $60 (OOT on n64 was $90) for so long was a huge mistake. It killed the middle market... You know, those games that were just ok but half the price. That's kind of been replaced by Indies but now there is so much indie junk it's really hard to find the good stuff.
Another issue we have now that's not price related is the unwillingness to delay a game. Only certain companies do it and those companies tend to put out the absolute top tier games. Rockstar, CDPR, Nintendo...
I understand that most people commenting are younger and won't like any increase in price but I truly wish they had been raised to $80 years ago... It would have prevented so many bad things we deal with today and even if they raise the prices now they will still have MTX.
Fastest selling doesn't mean much if the game ends up hurting Sony's reputation and killing naughty dogs.
I knew about some of the leaks and I didn't like what I heard but I bought it anyways and I'm about half way through and I really don't like it. The writing is just... Bad. The gameplay is a 6/10 at best.
It was story that made this series great and this story is horrible and feels forced. It's hard to even describe without spoilers.
Suffice to say I'll never buy one of their games again and its not because Ellie is gay or anything like that. It's because the studio has lost its way and without Amy hennig it's also lost its writing talent. Druckman is... Horrible.
So yay for sales... I'll never fall for it again and it's also going to have the side effect of making me not buy Sony games immediately like I always have. I have every sony exclusive since the ps2 and they were all day 1 buys... But never again.

The worst part of Sony's letter is it literally shows that they make 3rd parties sign contracts that say games must be better or have parity.
That means if a game could look better on a different platform the developers aren't allowed to take advantage of the hardware. It MUST match the PlayStation version.

Activision was either going to be sold or die. Microsoft wants people playing anything anywhere anytime. They would probably love to stop making hardware.
If Sony bought them 99% of people here wouldn't have an issue with it. Even without Activision Sony will eventually be unable to compete due to embracer group...
They are the world's largest publisher & gaming ip holder in the world. They are also not a game company which likely means they want some sweet MTX money like mobile style.
You care way too much on the box you play on. The most ironic thing is Sony has been treating gamers like garbage for the last 6 or so years. If you pay attention you will see a clear pattern.
You know like raising game prices to $70 despite making record profits even at $60. Forget special editions? Forget dlc? If games are making RECORD profits then raising the prices just means they want record record profits.
How about Sony even with inflation still making a profit on each console they sell. They also just removed more of the heatsink and are risking cooling, performance and longevity to make more profit. Removing 1 copper heat pipe is worth enough money over 250k units to add 1/6 more profit per unit and that's not including the price hike.
Wake up.. these are corporations not your buddies. They want money from you.

I can't disagree about naughty dog and combat... It just feels average at best and if you use a critical eye then it's below average.
The stealth isn't great either... There are multiple sections in TLOU2 that are supposed to be gun fights but I got through all of them without shooting once and it's not because the stealth system is good, it's because it's pretty bad due to its simplicity.
The ai even on the hardest difficulty is very easy to get around and that's any enemy or even large groups in areas where you are stuck in a choke point and could never really stealth your way out.. but I always did

I have a feeling that console return policies might be so limited due to contract with publisher's and hopefully both console adopt the steam style refund policy.
I know Microsoft already let's you get a refund on a game or even movie but they limit it to 2 per year. Sony is... stricter.
It would be very pro consumer for both to change. Obviously you can't use the 2 hours as a rental period but as long as you don't abuse the refunds then it should be fine and the first console maker to make that change will definitely earn +10 goodwill because it will probably push the other company to do the same.

I wouldn't be sure the ps5 version has it..it's likely but you can never be sure.
I just can't wait till Microsoft implements their version of "DLSS" which will be open source so devs can tweak it to make it better and better. Just like they did with Tress-fx. It looks much better than hairworks and uses like 15% less resources and that's because it's open source.

@RazielReaper director's leave studio's mid game all the time, it just doesn't get reported on unless it's super high profile. It also doesn't speak to the game itself. A game is not made by 1 person and while a director can shape a game they don't really set it's actual direction unless they are an independent studio. 1st party studio's work different than independent ones. That's why so many people at big companies leave to form new indie studio's.

Also who pre-order's from a clothing store and really expects to get a console? They probably got less than 1% of the entire supply of consoles shipped. It's like buying video games at 711.. a stupid idea but they did it for a couple big games and it went horribly wrong for obvious reasons...
Also the internet didn't explode... nobody noticed or cares. 1 person tweeted this site and they wrote an article as if there were a significant number of people who tried to buy it there when that's just not true
Also the gift card was 1 per person, it said that but people ignored it...that's on them.
Lastly no they didn't cancel ALL orders because I know someone who got one along with their gift card.

I bought both these games on series x but also installed them on a base xbox and an x1x and the file sizes were all different because I got different versions based on the console.

It's entirely possible for the base ps4 and oddly (on the surface) not the base xbox holding it up.
People forget the xbox has 1 more cpu core dedicated to games. They did that right when they killed the kinect because that was essentially a core handling kinect which was always active.
The Xbox also has slightly faster cpu clocks and ondie esram that can effectively be used as cache for the gpu even if it isn't very much cache it certainly wouldn't hurt to have.
It just sucks that those of us playing on PC have to sit through another delay because the ancient base consoles can't handle this game. I can't imagine wanting to even play it on either of them. It's going to be low resolution, probably have a terrible draw distance, low res textures, shadows and on and on and on. I'd imagine it will look worse than the pc version on low at 900p.

I'm gonna go ahead and take ubi soft a word for it... Sony might not be lying when they say the games "run" but that doesn't mean you can play them.
Wonder how many more games that connect to online services also "run" but can't actually be played? Between this and the fact that the ps5 isn't running on genuine RDNA2 architecture is some bad news right before launch.

I'm primarily a pc gamer but I own all 3 consoles and when I do pvp gaming I do it on my xbox because pc has cheaters and I find xbl to be a better service.
That being said after hearing about what sony is doing in chats and even other things like wiping everyone's wishlist... It's weird and also insane. So I'm glad xbl just happened to matchmake better and have less issues...
If I was primarily a playstation gamer when you combine this with the old psn hack and also how juicy this new data would be for hackers it would give me serious pause on whether I planned on not only buying a ps5 but also on whether I would even keep ps4 as my go to machine...

It's mostly the HDR. Everything else looks fine but not "next gen". Adding some low res ray tracing and better models (mostly the texture itself) is PC 2 years ago but worse... We won't see any of the systems actual potential until 2021. Console launches are not showcases no matter how much we want them to be. Stuff always gets much better.

@Carl-G you bought a sony 4k tv... I'm genuinely sorry. More research was needed on that purchase. They buy their OLED panels from LG but LG keeps the best ones plus LG has the better software. If it's an LCD they bought from Samsung but samsung is done with LCD and again they kept the best ones and sold the rest wholesale so it could have gone in a sony or a Walmart brand...
The moral here is if you buy a TV it should be either LG or Samsung otherwise you get an interior panel and inferior software to drive it.

Definitely waiting for them to do a redesign and price cut. My gaming PC is less noticable... It's hidden right beside the entertainment center and dead silent from 2 feet away with a 3 fan 2080ti ftw3 in it and 6 case fans! Not a peep.

So that would mean it will last 6-7 hours. When my elite 2 lasts 60 hours or a regular Xbox controller lasts 30-40 in rechargable AA's I'd like to think Sony could squeeze a better battery in there.
I literally just bought a new ps4 controller this past Thursday and I get 3-4 hours out of a full charge which is the same I got out out my launch controller, my pro launch controller and the 2 other controllers I had I gotta say I really expected better.
The battery in my phone is smaller than the one in the PS4 controller but has triple the mAh. That's ridiculous.

Had publishers raised the price to $70-80 6 years ago like they should have then maybe we wouldn't have such BS dlc practices.
Keeping prices at $60 (OOT on n64 was $90) for so long was a huge mistake. It killed the middle market... You know, those games that were just ok but half the price. That's kind of been replaced by Indies but now there is so much indie junk it's really hard to find the good stuff.
Another issue we have now that's not price related is the unwillingness to delay a game. Only certain companies do it and those companies tend to put out the absolute top tier games. Rockstar, CDPR, Nintendo...
I understand that most people commenting are younger and won't like any increase in price but I truly wish they had been raised to $80 years ago... It would have prevented so many bad things we deal with today and even if they raise the prices now they will still have MTX.

Fastest selling doesn't mean much if the game ends up hurting Sony's reputation and killing naughty dogs.
I knew about some of the leaks and I didn't like what I heard but I bought it anyways and I'm about half way through and I really don't like it. The writing is just... Bad. The gameplay is a 6/10 at best.
It was story that made this series great and this story is horrible and feels forced. It's hard to even describe without spoilers.
Suffice to say I'll never buy one of their games again and its not because Ellie is gay or anything like that. It's because the studio has lost its way and without Amy hennig it's also lost its writing talent. Druckman is... Horrible.
So yay for sales... I'll never fall for it again and it's also going to have the side effect of making me not buy Sony games immediately like I always have. I have every sony exclusive since the ps2 and they were all day 1 buys... But never again.
