It seems less likely that they will find a new publisher to not only help them fund the rest of the development but to pay NetEase the money back from the last few years of its development too which is probably more than many publishers are willing to do.
@lazarus11 No doubt that is what I will tell myself when I try and get one at the earliest possible chance. You know after the first second and all the way up to the eighth wave of scalpers have horded all the stock for ages.
@AverageGamer I am well aware of that but there will still be some kind of performance difference especially on older games that were designed for a specific console hardware compared to a version of the game that wasn't targeting any kind of specific hardware configuration and both versions will be accessing those same resources in different ways. Going forward though it will probably mean that any Xbox version of a game will essentially be the same version that is running on both console and PC and not two separate versions.
It is just going to be interesting to see a version of a game that was originally designed for say the XBox One compared to the PC version both running on the same console because I would imagine some PC versions will actually make better use of the hardware seeing as many Xbox games would have been locked to certain settings. I am sure there will be plenty of comparisons done though.
I am 43 but calling people 35 and over old just hurts so much. I would also take a guess as one of the reasons why people in that age group are more likely to be buying the game right away currently is because of the cost of new games and people in that age range are more than likely the ones with more disposable income than those who are younger.
An announcement is probably going to be sooner now and with them no longer porting first party games to PC that decision was probably made because they caught wind of this new Xbox announcement and they don't want future first party games playable on this new system even if it's a PC version.
I know that people will complain about a new Playstation being released in the next year or so but the way things are now the PS5 will probably receive most games for the next several years anyway much like the PS4 has done up until recently. So even if you don't personally want a new console yet it doesn't mean you have to buy one unless you feel some kind of social pressure that you will miss out if you don't.
Currently for me I don't see the point of a console that can play PC games as I already have a really decent PC that can play most modern games and simply upgrading the graphics card in the next year or so will probably put me on par with this console. One thing I will be curious about is if the PC versions of games perform worse than the Xbox versions of games especially in older titles because the OS will more than likely impact that greatly.
Then there is the potential price I can't see this being any lower than £850 at the minimum even more if the rumours of them wanting to make it premium and not take as much of a loss which they may have to do if they are going to open it up to third party stores and potentially lose sales on games which the PC versions are usually cheaper.
I am also thinking the reason why Sony just announced the will be ceasing all ports of first party games that aren't a live service is because they were aware of this pending announcement. which makes sense seeing as in future this would have been a method of playing newer PlayStation games on Xbox.
To me this just reads as the most generic statement ever from someone who didn't expect to even be in the job and she wants to make everyone happy at the same time.
I'm not too sure why people seem to think the PS6 coming out later will some how make it any less expensive. The ram situation probably won't be any different in the next 4+ years and added with inflation and we have now hit a point where it will be more expensive no matter what.
I get the people who are using the argument that there haven't been enough games to really show off what this generation can do but sadly we have also reached the point where in order to do that games will take several years to actually develop because of how much is in them and how many people you need working on every little detail.
It has now started getting to the point where a large percentage of people won't be fully happy with new hardware unless it offers a noticeable leap from the previous generation and right now unless there is some kind of miraculous breakthrough it's just not feasible.
Not exactly a surprising answer. Let's not forget Microsoft are now only porting and releasing their games on Playstation because it didn't pan out as they expected with buying both Bethesda and Activision Blizzard. They were expecting everyone to flock to Xbox and Game pass because of the acquisitions and what they didn't account for is those multi-platform games only held value as just that and not as system sellers on their own. Sony on the other hand didn't make that over calculation and their first party games still make them huge profits.
Even if the next Xbox has various PC store fronts on it I can imagine many games won't exactly perform as well on the hardware in comparison to dedicated console versions designed for that hardware so even Xbox games that have a PC version will probably perform worse and it will still be better to get the version designed for the console.
I am not against this kind of mode being locked to start off with as many games in the past have locked entire modes behind beating or reaching certain points in games. This one however did practically show it as a main feature when it was shown off right before it shadow dropped giving people the impression you could do it from the start and not giving anyone much chance to do any research before they purchased it so it's not like there was loads of information out there to be aware of it.
For the first time in a long time it feels like Konami is actually starting to go back to their old selves. Although I wasn't a big fan of the art style of the new castlevania still MGS4 on modern systems, another Silent Hill and Castlevania as well as two new games is a good showing from them.
I have zero nostalgia for the Spyro games more because by the time the first one came out I was around 16 I was into far more action based and mature styled games or wrestling ones. Admittedly these days I will play anything if I can enjoy it but for some reason I haven't played many 3D platformers/collect-em-ups I probably got burnt out by the ones I did play from the N64 and from the following generation of consoles. All that despite me wanting to play them and just never finding the time these days. One day though.
I had been interested in Undisputed when it was first announced as it had been so long since any boxing game had been released so I will more than likely play it a bit. Ultros looks very vibrant and will admit I have never really heard of it before but looks like it may be fun to play.
If only people like this put this much effort into other aspects of their life. Even though it's not confirmed I very much believe it with how obsessive some fans are with a variety of things in modern media.
That is overly optimistic with how long it takes to make just about any big budget game now it would seem every 2 -3 years would be at least possible. Just look at Call of Duty and them forcing one out yearly even with separate teams working on different entries. Although it would be nice to get more than one game a generation from most development teams like we seem to now.
Once we get to the stage a publisher, even a smaller one like Kepler Interactive, is putting in significant funds to help with the production and development of a game then can it really be considered indie?
If an outside party is helping with costs and then publishing it, even if the developer doesn't have a long term agreement with them for all of the games or is owned by them, then the game is no longer an independent production.
The actual amount of money is irrelevant as a large publisher can publish a smaller game from an outside developer and help fund it and because of the publisher involved people will no longer consider it an indie game despite the team working on it having no contractual ties to the publisher.
I imagine there are still many people who still use one as a primary system. I still use mine as a secondary system in my bedroom these days. We will have a situation next generation where the PS4 and Xbox One are still supported for many games that are capable of running on them still. Not only are we still in a situation where it's costing more just to live but hardware that is 5 years old now is actually increasing in price and it looks like it will only get worse with the whole ram situation.
So will it be 95% trailers again with the awards squeezed into the remaining time? With the amount of money they are generating from the trailers you can't tell me that the time is limited to make the show an actual celebration of the years games. It can't possibly cost that much to produce and run the whole show.
I tried watching it like last year and it felt more like an advertisement for upcoming games with an award show squeezed in the remaining time. So definitely a pass from me.
It's not really surprising with the recent discount they had when the price was so close to the Series S anyone who was considering an Xbox probably got swayed into a PS5 because of the price. Did they make any money on them? Probably not but they will probably more than make it back in software sales from new customers and at this time of year it was a very smart move.
No unless it gains access to all of the mass market popular games that have multiplayer such as the countless EA sports games, COD, Fortnite and games similar to those. Since none of those games currently work on Steam OS because of their anti-cheat protocols then it won't really pose a risk to any mainstream games consoles. The price is moot if people won't be able to play their friends in those kinds of games to ever pose a threat to PlayStation or even Xbox.
What a waste of plastic. I don't see the point in producing the case and the disc if it doesn't have the game on it. It seems like a waste of time on their end too wasting power to actually produce it all.
At the rate things are going we will still be receiving PS4 versions of games by that point. It's only now more and more publishers are starting to leave the last gen behind with their big games but not all of them still. If it does launch then we could be in a situation where some games are still being developed to run on last generations hardware and you will have three generations of hardware still being supported at the same time.
It's also taken multiple years for this generation to actually feel like it has started so I can say I won't be interested in an upgrade until at least 2030 at the earliest as I already know the majority of those games released on it in the first few years will still run on PS5.
By that point if it is released I can still see games being released on the PS4 and Xbox One. Next generation may be the first one where the publishers are still actively supporting three generations of consoles at the same time.
It seems more and more likely that the next Xbox will be more of a 3DO model where other manufactures make the hardware and Xbox licences the name and OS. It has been rumoured for for some time that they are going in some kind of hybrid console/PC route.
I honestly say I am not surprised that they expected the acquisition of third party publishers to be a reason people were going to want an Xbox and to subscribe to Gamepass. The problem is though is those games selling strength was they were on most platforms and they sold equally across all. No one ever bought a system for those games specifically because they new they would be available on just about anything they were going to buy.
Despite what people claim that exclusives don't sell consoles in many ways they do if you have a huge selection of them plus all the multi-platform games that Xbox is trying to use as their system sellers. People will more often than not look at the choices and not only see that all the games that Xbox is offering are on or coming to Playstation but there is also a large library of games that aren't available on Xbox.
It really doesn't help that in favour of all these new acquisition they started closing all the older studios they had that were making exclusive games. That as well with the mixed messages often changing multiple times a year it is getting harder to tell what direction they want to take Xbox in.
A game that already got a remake is getting another remake? Just port over the whole MCC with some enhancements rather than trying to port the game to a different engine which will probably lead to less than optimal results. If it was a built from the ground remake then maybe it would have me excited but if the Oblivion remake is anything to go by trying to use old code with a new engine isn't a very optimal way of remaking a game at all.
I always found PS Plus better in terms of value because it usually had more games I would want to play on it for the most part but that is down more to my taste in games. PS Plus premium now seems like an absolute bargain now though especially compared to GPU. It was inevitable that it would happen though even after many said that it wasn't sustainable at that price especially after all the acquisitions and still offering every new game day one. They have to fund those games some how through either direct sales or increasing the subscription price. They couldn't keep potentially making them at a loss and hope people start subscribing in their masses as that hasn't really happened an the growth for gaming subscription services has pretty much stopped for now.
I am sure it will have a nice easy platinum for those that spend money on all of those 5 minute games to show off how "good" they are and not how much money they have.
When a developer releases a game to the public and then afterwards seems shocked that it is somehow not in a playable state and says they are trying to fix it then the question is how could they not tell how poor it was running before it was released? It makes them look either incompetent or that they are lying. Has this day 1 patch they insisted everyone wait for actual appeared?
You would think with this new update and this new welcome screen on PS5 they would have integrated the Stars stuff into it. It's an optional rewards program at the end of the day and you only get anything out of it if you spend a lot so I imagine most people who are benefiting from it spend what they earn get fairy quickly.
I can see why they would want to focus on something they actually care about more and when you take into account that Killzone games didn't actually sell that well compared to other Playstation exclusives as much as people on here seem to like the games more than Horizon they are in the minority.
@Steel76 why would they sell the IP to someone when Sony owns it and could just put a new studio in charge of developing a new game?
I get the appeal of all digital for many people especially when it comes to not wanting hundreds of games stacked up everywhere. The one thing I don't agree with is the price of digital games on console often costing more than the price of the physical games. When you no longer have to pay for the manufacturing, distribution and the wages of the people selling it to you then it makes no sense to sell it at the same price digitally. It is price gauging at the highest level. You can argue development costs and what not are pushing prices that high but the development costs of most movies are still higher and even if they perform poorly in cinemas they are usually still a third of the price on physical media. So until digital game prices on consoles come down I'll stick to shopping around for physical and off the next generation is all digital I will finally stop buying consoles unless the prices come down.
Well since I didn't own any of them it was a good month and I used to buy ever WWE game at one point in time but got so burnt out on them and haven't picked one up or played any since 2k19 and after the disaster that was 2k20 i figured it was a good place to stop. Taking me a while to get used to the new controls and while I am having fun playing it I wouldn't have paid for it separately. Two wrestling games in a few months though is something I wasn't expecting. I will be playing Dead Space soon though as I loved the original and it was one of those remakes I never got the urge to buy again.
If a game isn't on Game pass then some publishers and devs will think twice about porting their games to Xbox since many have said in the past that the development cost even for a game already finished for another system may be higher than any sales revenue will make them back especially if their game is considered more niche in western markets.
I find my biggest issue is switching between Nintendo and Xbox controllers more than anything as the on screen prompts for pressing certain buttons momentarily mess with my instincts. Never really had that issue with PlayStation controllers as it's shapes rather than letters and always confuses me why people think the X is a letter and not a cross when the other three are shapes. Although being around from the early days and actually reading what the symbols were I guess I assume others knew and the information wasn't lost to history.
I probably wouldn't have purchased it simply because I already own all three systems and a gaming PC and as long as I get to experience the games I want I am not to bothered about a few extra frames while also playing on the highest graphical mode. As long as I get the same gameplay experience in a playable form I don't really care if it is on better hardware or not. Some people seem to equate having more fun with a game to how powerful the hardware is they are playing it on. There are also not enough games that take advantage of this generations hardware in the first place to warrant an upgrade since many games are still coming out on last generation hardware still which is crazy to think a decade later.
I do love Final Fantasy 8 and don't agree with the hate it gets because it was so different at the time from other Final Fantasy games. The series has been pretty known for changing the way they look and play throughout the years and not just sticking to the same thing the previous games did and from 12 onwards each mainline entry would have a drastically different combat system. Saying that though 9 for me is a better game and the best of the generation. With 7 being just behind it.
@Dragon83 I didn't say anything about the story being bad in fact it is good but the gameplay is clunky and it was back then too. Saying for it's time it was one of the best games is definitely not true as it wasn't it was just one of the early PS2 games released in the west so some people have fonder memories of it because there was more of a limited selection of RPGs at the time. I am not saying don't enjoy the game for what it is but it is not this classic that you are making it out to be and its faults have aged poorly like many early PS2 games have.
@Dragon83 no even at the time for a PS2 game the visuals were considered poor and unpolished I am not comparing it to modern stuff but games released at the time. You seem to have convinced yourself this is a modern complaint at this game when it was one that was given when it was released and I would know I played it back that and read the magazine reviews. It now being an old game doesn't mean those standards should be relaxed and it should be considered somehow better in hindsight.
@Dragon83 Even when it came out on the PS2 this game was considered like it was outdated and the problems he mentioned were all ones mentioned back then. No where in the review is it being compared to modern games either. So there is nothing unfair about it. An old average clunky game doesn't suddenly improve in quality because it is now considered old.
Well the term functional is a bit of a stretch as Sony seems to have just left it to sit there and slowly fall apart and rot. They haven't maintained it in anyway shape or form and it's a pain to navigate also many of the games that are still on there are now more expensive than if you were to track down a physical version if there is one available that is. It would at least give people incentive to use it if they still did discounts on the store but they haven't in several years and probably wont again even before it closes.
I remember my brother picking up Summoner back in the early days of the PS2 and always remember it looking awful for the time with overly long loading times. I would actually probably get into it more these days now my tastes in games have broadened. For those who don't know it was also made by Volition who went on to make the Saints Row series.
@VeldinX That is what I thought when I read the headline and even the article makes it seem like SquareEnix had something to do with the game when they simply just own the IP and did nothing with it since purchasing it.

It really doesn't help that in favour of all these new acquisition they started closing all the older studios they had that were making exclusive games. That as well with the mixed messages often changing multiple times a year it is getting harder to tell what direction they want to take Xbox in.
Re: Halo: Combat Evolved Remake Could Be the Final Frontier for Xbox on PS5
A game that already got a remake is getting another remake? Just port over the whole MCC with some enhancements rather than trying to port the game to a different engine which will probably lead to less than optimal results. If it was a built from the ground remake then maybe it would have me excited but if the Oblivion remake is anything to go by trying to use old code with a new engine isn't a very optimal way of remaking a game at all.
Re: PS Plus Looks Better Than Ever After New Xbox Game Pass Price Rises
Re: PS5's AI Slop Shovelware Has Hit a New Low
I am sure it will have a nice easy platinum for those that spend money on all of those 5 minute games to show off how "good" they are and not how much money they have.
Re: Sony Approves MindsEye PS5 Refunds as Dev Issues 'Sincere Apology'
When a developer releases a game to the public and then afterwards seems shocked that it is somehow not in a playable state and says they are trying to fix it then the question is how could they not tell how poor it was running before it was released? It makes them look either incompetent or that they are lying. Has this day 1 patch they insisted everyone wait for actual appeared?
Re: GTA Trilogy Dev Implies Rockstar Made a 'D*ck Move' Removing Its Name from PS5, PS4 Remasters
You know they are unhappy when they I follow some on social media that just makes the anger so official these days or something like that.
Re: Reminder: You Must Accept PS Stars Terms of Service to Keep Earning Points
You would think with this new update and this new welcome screen on PS5 they would have integrated the Stars stuff into it. It's an optional rewards program at the end of the day and you only get anything out of it if you spend a lot so I imagine most people who are benefiting from it spend what they earn get fairy quickly.
Re: Sony's Guerrilla Sounds Completely Done with the Killzone Series
I can see why they would want to focus on something they actually care about more and when you take into account that Killzone games didn't actually sell that well compared to other Playstation exclusives as much as people on here seem to like the games more than Horizon they are in the minority.
@Steel76 why would they sell the IP to someone when Sony owns it and could just put a new studio in charge of developing a new game?
Re: Like It or Not, This Is Why PS5 Pro Doesn't Have a Disc Drive
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for October 2024?
Well since I didn't own any of them it was a good month and I used to buy ever WWE game at one point in time but got so burnt out on them and haven't picked one up or played any since 2k19 and after the disaster that was 2k20 i figured it was a good place to stop. Taking me a while to get used to the new controls and while I am having fun playing it I wouldn't have paid for it separately. Two wrestling games in a few months though is something I wasn't expecting. I will be playing Dead Space soon though as I loved the original and it was one of those remakes I never got the urge to buy again.
Re: Microsoft Is Investigating Why Devs Are Prioritising PS5 Over Xbox
If a game isn't on Game pass then some publishers and devs will think twice about porting their games to Xbox since many have said in the past that the development cost even for a game already finished for another system may be higher than any sales revenue will make them back especially if their game is considered more niche in western markets.
Re: Random: Xbox Boss Complains About X Button After Being Handed PS5 Pad
I find my biggest issue is switching between Nintendo and Xbox controllers more than anything as the on screen prompts for pressing certain buttons momentarily mess with my instincts. Never really had that issue with PlayStation controllers as it's shapes rather than letters and always confuses me why people think the X is a letter and not a cross when the other three are shapes. Although being around from the early days and actually reading what the symbols were I guess I assume others knew and the information wasn't lost to history.
Re: Poll: Would You Buy PS5 Pro If It Was Cheaper?
I probably wouldn't have purchased it simply because I already own all three systems and a gaming PC and as long as I get to experience the games I want I am not to bothered about a few extra frames while also playing on the highest graphical mode. As long as I get the same gameplay experience in a playable form I don't really care if it is on better hardware or not. Some people seem to equate having more fun with a game to how powerful the hardware is they are playing it on. There are also not enough games that take advantage of this generations hardware in the first place to warrant an upgrade since many games are still coming out on last generation hardware still which is crazy to think a decade later.
Re: 25 Years Ago, Square Released the Best Final Fantasy Game
I do love Final Fantasy 8 and don't agree with the hate it gets because it was so different at the time from other Final Fantasy games. The series has been pretty known for changing the way they look and play throughout the years and not just sticking to the same thing the previous games did and from 12 onwards each mainline entry would have a drastically different combat system. Saying that though 9 for me is a better game and the best of the generation. With 7 being just behind it.
Re: Capcom Wants All of Its Legacy Fighting Games to Be Re-Released on PS5, PS4
Yes to all of the above
Re: Summoner (PS2) - Ambitious RPG Remains a Relic of the Past
@Dragon83 I didn't say anything about the story being bad in fact it is good but the gameplay is clunky and it was back then too. Saying for it's time it was one of the best games is definitely not true as it wasn't it was just one of the early PS2 games released in the west so some people have fonder memories of it because there was more of a limited selection of RPGs at the time. I am not saying don't enjoy the game for what it is but it is not this classic that you are making it out to be and its faults have aged poorly like many early PS2 games have.
Re: Summoner (PS2) - Ambitious RPG Remains a Relic of the Past
@Dragon83 no even at the time for a PS2 game the visuals were considered poor and unpolished I am not comparing it to modern stuff but games released at the time. You seem to have convinced yourself this is a modern complaint at this game when it was one that was given when it was released and I would know I played it back that and read the magazine reviews. It now being an old game doesn't mean those standards should be relaxed and it should be considered somehow better in hindsight.
Re: Summoner (PS2) - Ambitious RPG Remains a Relic of the Past
@Dragon83 Even when it came out on the PS2 this game was considered like it was outdated and the problems he mentioned were all ones mentioned back then. No where in the review is it being compared to modern games either. So there is nothing unfair about it. An old average clunky game doesn't suddenly improve in quality because it is now considered old.
Re: Random: PS3 Is Now the Only Console from Its Era with a Functional Store
Well the term functional is a bit of a stretch as Sony seems to have just left it to sit there and slowly fall apart and rot. They haven't maintained it in anyway shape or form and it's a pain to navigate also many of the games that are still on there are now more expensive than if you were to track down a physical version if there is one available that is. It would at least give people incentive to use it if they still did discounts on the store but they haven't in several years and probably wont again even before it closes.
Re: 13 New Games Land on PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week
I remember my brother picking up Summoner back in the early days of the PS2 and always remember it looking awful for the time with overly long loading times. I would actually probably get into it more these days now my tastes in games have broadened. For those who don't know it was also made by Volition who went on to make the Saints Row series.
Re: Square Enix's Forgotten PS1 Fighting Force Franchise Beats the Count on PS5, PS4
@VeldinX That is what I thought when I read the headline and even the article makes it seem like SquareEnix had something to do with the game when they simply just own the IP and did nothing with it since purchasing it.
