Re: Astro's Playroom Guide: Tips, Tricks, and All Collectibles

WhensDinner

What year is it?

On a more serious note this game was super fun. I had a bunch of games and PS+ when I got my PS5 but I still played through 100% of this and got the Platinum before I even got to any of them. I don't even chase Platinum trophies much, it was just that fun. Shame we didn't get an Astra game for PSVR2. It's really missing a "getting started" game for new VR players.

@Loamy Liquid metal just isn't a great idea for commodity devices. It requires very specific and precise application that can't really be done at scale. It's not like thermal paste/pads where you just put it in the center and the pressure handles it. It also creeps out from between the heatsink and die/ihs, especially if the device is not laid flat. Asus laptops moved to using liquid metal a couple generations ago and there are tons of pictures of the metal leaking out.

Re: Armored Core 6 Is Apparently Five Times the Length of Previous Games

WhensDinner

That's good to hear. I hope there's many missions in the style of the AC3 family of games, rather than the style of 4/V.

I don't remember if it was For Answer or Verdict Day that had like 4 total missions in the whole game. Granted they were pretty long, kind of like Left 4 Dead scenarios rather than the missions of previous games, but I didn't really dig it. The game felt so tiny.

Re: PS5's Remote Play Portable Appears to Leak Online

WhensDinner

I hope this prompts Sony to improve remote play in general. Right now it does work but the image quality on PC is very poor even at its highest quality. It also doesn't use a hardware accelerated presentation layer so framepacing and sync are terrible.

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Release Date Reportedly Slated for November 2024

WhensDinner

I'm still not really convinced we've seen the best of the PS5. Outside of a very small handful (hand halfful?) of games most of what we have are essentially PS4 Pro Pro games. Diablo 4, Resident Evil 4, Street Fighter 6, Lies of P, Horizon, etc. It's all just shaping up to make the PS5 this weird middleground when it was supposed to be a leap. I feel like it'll be looked back on as a weird transition rather than its own generation. I'm still in the habit of expecting games to have the PS4 badge on them on the PSN Store and being pleasantly surprised when it has the PS5 badge instead.

I did just get a PSVR2, though, and while I love the headset and the games I've played so far, it's kind of a drag that some of them run at 60fps with spacewarp, rather than native 90/120. Maybe the PS5 Pro will let them run at a real 90/120.

Re: Diablo 4's Huge Patch Backlash Prompts Damage Control Chat with Blizzard Devs

The people in here who are oddly proud that they don't understand why players are killing me. Blizzard is showing us how they intend to steward this game and its balance going forward, and what their showing us is dire. They're hammering down anything fun that crops up with nothing to replace it. They gutting so many builds, and in the case of Sorc literally 100% of their effective builds are dead in the water.

Re: Twisted Metal Duo Add PS5, PS4 Platinum Trophies

WhensDinner

They both look like pretty easy Platinums. Though Twisted Metal 2 gets kind of obnoxious. You have two lives to get through all of the levels and the enemies barely do anything to each other as the battles go on, but instantly gang up on you. This coupled with the fact that the enemies have infinite special weapons and constantly spam them, it gets to be kind of un-fun to progress effectively.

The game is super fun in multiplayer, though.

Re: FTC Fails to Delay Microsoft's $69 Billion Buyout of Activision Blizzard

WhensDinner

The CMA is embarrassing itself worse than the FTC did. The deal is going through at this point. The CMA doesn't get to choose that anymore. All it gets to choose is if the UK gets any say in how it moves forward or not. If they keep pouting Microsoft will just move forward without them. If they actually talk then they get some say in possible concessions or stipulations.

I'd rather this deal didn't happen but it's already set in stone at this point.

Re: AI-Generated Audio Row Leads to Persona 5 Voice Actor Deleting Twitter Account

WhensDinner

@GeneJacket The answer to my first question is obviously yes. It was meant as a baseline to show how easy it is to move to a situation where the answer isn't so clear. While I think most can easily agree that using someone's voice against their will isn't right, what if the end result is the exact same but their voice wasn't actually used to make the product? Without ways to answer these questions we can't even begin to make a framework for what's legal and what's not.

Re: AI-Generated Audio Row Leads to Persona 5 Voice Actor Deleting Twitter Account

WhensDinner

This is going to be an absolute mire to figure out legally. If I use your voice as training data, does that give you a legal right to take down the results of that AI model? What if instead I just try really hard to do an impression of what you sound like, tweak it in a DAW until it sounds close, and then use that to train the AI? What if I find someone on Fiverr that does a spot-on impression and pay them to make me some recordings to use as training data? How would you tell these situations apart? How can you be certain that AI was even used? What if I just paid someone that sounds exactly like you to make my dumb meme? I'm not obligated to prove anything to anyone about the content I make unless you sue me and a court forces me to. Are you going to sue everyone that makes something that sounds kind of like you in case your actual voice was used at some point in the pipe?

I don't even like most AI generated stuff. Once the novelty of hearing Dagoth Ur spout memes or hearing the president do the GTA V Lamar roast wears off it's all so soulless and empty.

Re: Honkai: Star Rail's Story Expands Significantly Prior to PS5 Launch

WhensDinner

@pharos_haven You can do all the content in the game with the characters given for free. The exception being the very top-end challenges that require multiple teams, though you'll likely be able to do those with free characters as well after the game has been out for a bit longer and more free characters join you as part of the story.

Re: Honkai: Star Rail's Story Expands Significantly Prior to PS5 Launch

WhensDinner

@Feena As I mentioned above, the first planet that you visit is very good. Absolutely worth it for the gameplay, characters, and story. Fully enjoyable for free and with no real push to spend any cash. The second planet is where the current content is, and I feel it's a bit weaker, but still pretty good. It's a fun game with enjoyable combat and intuitive character kits you can use to build effective teams.

That said, it is a gacha game, so if that is a hard turn off for you then this game isn't going to change your opinion. I think it's good even if you spend no/very little money (there's a $5 monthly pass that's good value) unlike others in its genre, but it is still very much in its genre.

Re: SEGA Survey Suggests Persona 3 Reload to Retail for $69.99

WhensDinner

Without the FES or Portable content? Absolutely not. The trend of remakes that aren't even definitive commanding higher than AAA price tags needs to stop yesterday. I'll get it when it's on a deep sale at some point in the future. Or I may not get it at all, honestly. I was hoping that we'd finally get a non-2D/VN edition of Portable's scenes and exploration, but we're not. At least not yet. I wouldn't be shocked if they sell a "FES" or "Ultimax" version of this in a couple years that does include that stuff.

Re: CD Projekt Exec Suggests Cyberpunk 2077 Launch Not That Bad, Actually, Dunking 'Became a Cool Thing'

WhensDinner

Maybe the game itself was good, but it was buried under so much technical baggage that it was not enjoyable. It was almost totally unplayable on last gen. Now that the technical issues have been mostly smoothed over and we've come to terms with the disparity between what was described vs what was sold, then yes, it's a good game. It's a good game now. It was absolutely not a good game then. This kind of revisionist spin is total nonsense and embarrassing to try and sell.

Re: Xbox Boss Wishy-Washy on Whether The Elder Scrolls 6 Will Come to PS6, PS5

WhensDinner

While he's not wrong, it's also kind of foolish to think that Microsoft won't favor exclusivity on such a big game on their platform, whatever that platform actually is when it releases. While it's true that we don't know what "Xbox Next" or "PS6" look like, it's fairly safe to say they'll be like the consoles we have now, but better, just like every console generation before.

Also in cases like this anything other than a straight answer should be taken as the answer that makes them look the worst. IE: "Of course it'll be Xbox exclusive, we're not spending all this money for nothing."
