Re: Behemoth Is All Brutal Combat and Big Baddies in PSVR2 Gameplay Trailer

Trousersnake

Same for me as the guys above here, highlight of the show! Super dynamic combat system and great graphics and atmosphere. Just look at the ripples in the pool of water in the last scene when the behemoth pounds the ground! Great stuff, i'm super stoked for this game! It's a shame Astrobot isn't PSVR 2, but it was clearly never meant to be. By the looks of it the game must have been years in development before PSVR 2 even arrived on the scene, so it has nothing to do with Sony 'abandoning' PSVR 2 or something but in all honesty i did expect a VR title from a Sony first-party studio and that was sadly absent.

Re: Alien: Rogue Incursion Confirmed for PSVR2, Out This Year

Trousersnake

I picked up a Quest 3 a few days ago and while i'm impressed by it overall, Quest 3 is awful to wear right out of the box, even worse than PSVR 2. Very front heavy. I had to buy a comfort strap to make it nicer, just like i did for PSVR 2. With getting the Globular Cluster strap for VR2 it made a world of a difference both in comfort and keeping the sweetspot, which became suddenly a non-issue for me. I never experienced any discomfort to my nose that you describe, and it overall does a better job in blocking all light than Quest 3 does in my humble opinion. The headset's bulkiness might look a bit dated, i agree but just like the rings on the controllers it's basically just an aesthetic thing that rarely interferes with any gameplay so mentioning it just because it's different to the smaller Quest 3 is pointless to me. PSVR 2's controllers outclass Quest 3's on every aspect i think.

The mura effect of the PSVR 2 is a bit more visible than on Quest 3, granted, but not half as much as some people claim it to be. In return you get great black levels(which i prefer as a horror games fan) and more vibrant colours thanks to the HDR which Quest 3 simply can't achieve. Pick your poison.

Quest 3's battery life is very dissapointing i think. I can play Asgard's Wrath 2(which is bloody amazing btw😃) not even up to two hours or it's completely empty and needs to charge. Keeping the loading cable plugged in extends the playtime a little(or so i'm told)but the battery drains faster than it loads, which is a huge problem. The headset is already heavy enough as it is and i don't like the idea of having to add an extra battery pack to the back, but it seems like the only option really.

In a way both headsets do seem to complement each other though. I'm happy i got a Quest 3 so i can play the exclusives, check out the MR stuff and use the VR browser all through a great interface, but the store is also cluttered with a lot of garbage and semi-useless apps. When a game is releasing on both systems i'll always go for the PSVR 2 version though

@djlard You clearly don't know anything about VR, spatial picture on tv, lol. That's really nice and all but won't immerse you completely in a 360° virtual environment. You still need a headset for that for a long time to come.VR ain't going nowhere and will continue to grow, slowly but surely.

Re: Devs Allegedly Pondering the Point of Sony's PS5 Pro Upgrade

Trousersnake

One segment in particular benefitted the most from PS4 Pro, the bump in image quality was really noticeable on PSVR. It was the main reason for me to get a Pro and i expect the same kind of improvement for PSVR 2. I love my PSVR 2 , it's basically my go-to accessory when i boot up the PS5 so i'm afraid i can't let a PS5 Pro slip when it's out in the wild. I own a decent Samsung 4K tv set but regarding flat games i barely noticed any difference on a tv/monitor screen, or at least not a clear leap. PSVR did show a significant increase in resolution and i want the best image clarity possible on the headset when plugged in a PS5. Don't think i'll buy a capable PC when it will be supported, just a bit too expensive for a decent piece of kit and added hassle getting it set up. My PS5 goes to my nephew and i'll maybe get €200 for it from my sis(his mom) if i'm lucky. Which is fine because i want him and his siblings to be able to play the latest games on a modern platform. They had a friggin N64 as most recent system before i donated the PS4 Pro to them, with success. They own a decent collection for it now and enjoy it a lot, so mission complete in my book!. Only person not sharing their enthusiasm is their dad, a tabletop games fan whom i suspect to see videogames as a slight threat to their enthusiasm for his own specific little hobby, lol. More digital dangers incoming pal!🤣

Re: The Elder Scrolls Celebrates 30th Anniversary, Gives a Small Update on TES 6

Trousersnake

Very amusing to read all the widely different takes on the Bethesda titles, i played Fallout 3 and New Vegas twice, one time with all the dlc and once without. I also completed Fallout 4 with the two story dlc's. New Vegas is my favorite of the three due to the crazy storylines of the sidequests, The writing really shines in that one! It takes a bit more risks with it's topics and is therefore more memorable, at least to me. Funny that it wasn't made by Bethesda. I never really got along with Oblivion on the PS3 and believe me, i tried. I played a fair chunk of that game but the samey world and it's (ugly!!)inhabitants distrackted me time and time again. I concluded that Elder Scrolls just wasn't for me, i prefered Fallout with it's apocalyptic setting and massive amount of guns. I ignored Skyrim completely when it released on the PS3 and never bothered to look back.. Until it got a PSVR release. I was craving for a massive open world rpg-type of game for VR, something to really get lost in for countless hours instead of the shorter games/experiences that were often coming to the headset. It had Borderlands 2 as well, but i already played through that one so i decided to give Skyrim a try. I kinda expected that Oblivion effect i had before, but it grabbed me really good. The nordic setting, the better looking faces of the npc's, the caves, dungeons, temples, snowy mountains, forests, the subterranean underworld of Blackreach, dwemer structures, enormous dragons, the cities Riften, Solitude, Whiterun.. I completed the main storylines of the vanilla game not too long ago after doing all the dlc as well, roughly 500 hrs. in VR spread out over three years.. I love Skyrim! It's the most epic thing i ever played and the VR mode is, besides being lazy implemented the one and only way to experience something this massive, layered and engaging. Being INSIDE Skyrim where everything is in life-size scale, the snowy mountains towering over the green plains in the distance and a statue carved out of the mountainside or a huge fortress, it's borderline intimidating at times.. A tv/monitor screen with flat, tiny assets trying to bring across the same epic setpieces, fails miserably in comparison. I'm glad i could experience Skyrim in VR as it ramps up the immersion and epicness tenfold. Though, ignorance is bliss i guess. Modless Skyrim VR on a PS5 blew me away and i'm sure some people are still equally impressed playing through the whole damn thing on a Switch, lol

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of PSVR2, One Year Later?

Trousersnake

I'm having a blast with it, i play VR almost every day and there are plenty of cool games. I'm having a hard time to keep up! Kinda dissapointed in Sony's first-party support, granted but that goes for the PS5 in general as well. On the other hand, who knows what Sony's cooking up? There are a lot of 3rd party games on the release list that have my interest as well, so more goodness incoming for sure. The first year of PSVR 2 was one of the best years of the PSVR brand in general i think, PSVR 1's first year dwarfs in comparison.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 515

Trousersnake

I Played some GT7 in VR today and i'm taking a break from RE Village while typing this. That's also the VR version ofcourse. I have exactly three flat titles left that i want to finish at some point, but i can't get myself excited to actually do so. All i play is PSVR 1&2, these damn headsets pretty much destroyed flat gaming for me and i love them for that!

Re: Deus Ex Game Reportedly Cancelled, Almost 100 Devs Laid Off

Trousersnake

Ah crap! Deus Ex is one of my most cherished series. From all the way back with DE The Conspiracy on the PS2, DE Invisible Worlds on the first Xbox and then later on DE Human Revolution on the PS3 and DE Mankind Devided on the PS4. Played 'em all multiple times, the open-ended levels and ditto gameplay lends itself perfectly for more playthroughs and i was looking forward to play a new installment sometime in the future.. Kinda saddened now tbh, Deus Ex, Thief and System Shock introduced a new way to play stealth/RPG FPS games that would become the blueprint for numerous games in the future(BioShock, Fallout 3 etc.) I really hope someone picks up the IP and makes a new game, it's a legendary series that doesn't deserve this

Re: Cyberpunk 2077's Next Patch Is Expected to Drop Very Soon

Trousersnake

Dear CDPR, i loved CP2077, it's a fantastic atmospheric game with a cool story to it. Unfortunately, i'm not able to enjoy gaming on a flat screen as i used to. VR crippled that badly, bigtime. Bringing CP to the VR community would make you the VR GOAT of all time instantly, we're craving for something deep, expansive and engaging. Skyrim VR is still king of the hill in my book , playing that for 5 years now non-stop. I need a different setting to get hopelessly lost in real bad, and what's more divisive and refreshing than from the civilzations of old to the dystopian metropoles of the future? It could be PSVR 2's ultimate killer app for the entire generation and the escapism-dream of many.. Please make it a reality! Now back to dragonslaying

Re: Bulletstorm VR Drop-Kicked into January 2024 on PSVR2

Trousersnake

@The_Pixel_King That's kinda what i did, i ditched Xbox alltogether in favor of the PSVR last gen. and never looked back. It's a separate platform with it's own library of games, and owning a PS, Nintendo, Xbox AND a VR kit proved a bit too much for my wallet too.. Since you're a big petrol head i can assure you you're missing out bigtime not being able to play GT7 in VR. Really, it's THAT damn good!

Re: The Finals Open Beta Draws 7.5 Million Players, Embark Studios 'Humbled'

Trousersnake

I played it for an evening and thought it was pretty cool. Reminded me of BF4 a bit, with a Mirrors Edge aesthetic of sorts. The Fortnite level of cosmetics with all the garish colours, stupid gestures and such and hipster presentation is not for me. I'm old and completely out of touch with that, it looks and feels like a kids game. BF2042 is what i still can tolerate, but only just. The Finals core-gameplay is solid but that presentation... Yuck. Not for me

Re: EA Sports WRC (PS5) - Don't Swerve This Intense, Well-Rounded Rally Racer

Trousersnake

@TrickyDicky99 As far as i'm concerned is the PSVR 2 doing allright, Sony didn't share any recent sales numbers(yet), all we know thus far is that it sold close to 600K in the first six weeks. That's 8% higher than PSVR 1 did at the same point, at a higher pricetag and limited availability only through Sony. It's unrealistic to think that a VR headset should sell console figures anyway, it's still an accessory that costs more than the damn PS5 itself and it just has been widely available since May. It's way too early to spew anything that makes common sense in that regard..

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Promises Major PS5, PS4 Update Next Week

Trousersnake

Cool, hope they'll keep supporting the ***** out of this game! I only play in VR and while i abandoned the series completely after GT3 A Spec, not a sim racing fan, i enjoy the heck out of GT7! Only gripe is that i find the game kinda mura-heavy, other titles on PSVR 2 look way better in that regard(Horizon CotM, Red Matter 1&2, RE8, NMS, Alvo etc.) Wish they could have a look at that.

Re: PSVR2 Is 'Important' to Sony, But 'PS5 Is the Core'

Trousersnake

@Art_Vandelay It really stands out to me that the average VR gamer is often a bit older just like us, and probably a fan of the tech for roughly the same reasons. Not only being able to afford such a (relatively) expensive console 'accessory' drives the age up, but being able to finally experience proper VR too. A childhood dream of many 80's and 90's kids, fuelled by movies like 'Lawnmower Man', 'Existenz' and 'The Matrix' as well as remembering multiple failed attempts at consumer VR back in these days, it all contributes to VR's popularity among the older gamer i think. Well, back to Red Matter 2 now!

Re: PSVR2 Is 'Important' to Sony, But 'PS5 Is the Core'

Trousersnake

@Art_Vandelay Exactly what you describe here, even the very best 'pancake' games can't get me excited anymore these days. I'm 45 years of age, have been gaming since i was able to hold a controller and VR saved my hobby bigtime. Finally some REAL innovation after many years of playing the same kind of stale open-world stuff with just a different layer of paint on them. I had a blast with the PSVR 1, and have the same feeling playing with the new headset. Biggest innovation in gaming since games went 3D in the 90's for sure, and the tech itself is still very much in it's infancy so stuff will only get better from here on out..

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 491

Trousersnake

I checked out NMS after the patch and it's a night-and-day difference on PSVR 2! Too bad i have playes it a ton already over the years and have the feeling i've seen it all by now, but i will goof around some more to see what has been newly added in the coming days. Today it was once again Skyrim VR day and i will stick with it for the coming days and try to finish the remaining DLC stuff once and for all. Time to clean up the remaining PSVR 1 backlog bits and pieces so i can move on and just focus on PSVR 2 entirely!

Re: No Man's Sky's PSVR2 Visuals Take a Massive Leap with Foveated Rendering

Trousersnake

@ztpayne7 I just came off an extensive session, and i have to admit that when i visited my settlement, the outlines of buildings in particular have clearer jaggies on them than i remember. The clarity seems to have come with a cost for that matter. It's way sharper but there is still more jank to spot than Red Matter 2 has, which is close to none. It's an insanely huge game and it just can't look as polished as RM 2 obviously. The clarity is there, but when there's a lot going on and assets are cluttered it does have noticeable jaggies. My initial excitement got a little ahead of the truth i guess. I stand corrected🤷‍♂️🥴🙃
